Bay Area Noise Control

Every one is really NICE and this is what you get. Your money will be taken right away from a NICE woman, then a NICE handyman will come out and spend some time crawling about, then a NICE informal email will be sent with the handyman’s findings and a few suggestions that you pretty much know by looking around yourself. The NICE owner will ONLY email you and will not come to the site himself because he is «too busy» being NICE to other customers. No resolutions for my situation except nice enough to take my $ 350.00 and waste my time with defensive emails. Beware!

I’m a guy who likes to play my music a little loud… and sometimes i have people over for karaōke, only problem, my leisure room was on the neighbor side of house. So, I decided to call a few companies for noise control — Lee was one of the contractors that I called. He was very professional, educated (he knew what he was talking about and at the same time, did not confuse me). His design concept for sound control around the house was technical — I appreciate his skilled knowledge. I don’t know exactly how much sound has been controlled, but I no longer receive any complaints from my neighbors. THANK YOU LEE!

I bought a condo in an old building facing a busy street in the Mission in SF and wanted some insulation from the elements. I got three brand new windows in my bedroom, custom window screens throughout my condo, and also new seals and gaps filled all around my front door.
After the initial consultation I checked Unilocal and started to have second thoughts. Lee reassured me sufficiently and ultimately I’m so glad I went through with the work!
My bedroom is so peaceful now! Though not silent, the city noise now sounds like it’s off in the distance rather than intruding into my space. I also have a crooked old bay window and was concerned that the install would be too challenging. But Peter, the main guy who diid the install, did a beautiful job! Now that the window trim and door are repainted, they look perfect.
I found Lee and Peter both responsive and professional, and trusted them in my home. They were also in contact with me throughout until the project was completed to my satisfaction. I would call them again without hesitation for future work of this kind.

We hired Lee to install windows at our house and were happy with his service. It did take some time for him to get the windows after he ordered them, but this apparently had something to do with the manufacturer and not Lee. In the end the windows arrived, were installed and the house is a lot more peaceful as a result. Lee is a nice guy… and yes he may not have been super responsive to every message we left but in the end he didn’t leave us with no response. The product really does help and Lee does have the experience one needs to ensure they’re installed correctly.

Wow, this guy Lee is a head case. All the Unilocal reviews are true. He is nice and knowledgable up front and then ignores you after he gets his money from the initial consultation. Then has the audacity to ask that you refer him to other folks in the building if they need help. Skip this one and go somewhere unless you want a headache and a wait time with no end to get follow up questions answered or even a soft estimate. He says email him with your questions if you have any. And yes he does scribble on a notepad and present that as the product of his consultation. he talks basically about the premise/​hypothesis of noise and how to best solve them. And yes, he does mention that he did some job for a guy in the SF symphony. Haha, all true. He acts like he doesn’t want your business and yet says he likes the challenge of solving your problem. Did I say headache? Go to West Coast Sound solutions. They are hungrier for your business and very responsive. They even have a sample model to show you about what the layers of noise barrier products will look like. Lee knows his stuff but won’t help any you any more than that. Just read up on the Internet and you will be as knowledgable.

I own and automotive repair shop and needed some help from a noise engineer. I think he sent a scout out a week before to see if we were a legitimate business. A week later Lee Breener’s came out and inspected our site. We discussed everything from sound proofing our compressor room, Air ducts, and adding noise traps. We also came up with double pane windows for out neighbors. I was hoping he would come out with a tool to confirm the noise decimals through out the shop. I really felt the $ 400 was a rip off. He wrote me a hand scribbled note with everything we discussed. I asked him if he could put this on paper and send it to me through email. He looked at me like that would be too much work because he just hand wrote it. He was there for 45 minutes and it was painful to cut him a check for $ 400. All the stuff he suggested should be free if you decide to do the work. By the way he said he would send the estimate through email and he never did. I had a feeling he wouldn’t.

I hired Lee to do some work to isolate my bedrooms in our top floor condo in SF. As always in this type of work, there were lot of unexpected situations, and lee clearly faces up to all challenges that came along. He was always very polite, punctual, honest and reliable.

I live in a top-​floor condo and hired this company to install soundproofing to block out noises that enter from the unit below. Sloppy, indifferent service, much of which needed to be redone. Owner is very unresponsive and difficult to deal with. He will probably tell you that he did the home of Michael Tilson Thomas, but I sure hope Thomas got better service that I did. I predict that anyone who hires this company will be treated like me, and not like the conductor of the San Francisco Symphony.

Lee is certainly very skillful. He charges nearly $ 400 for an onsite inspection in order to provide an estimate for sound proof windows. He claims this is a good price because normally acoustical engineers charge $ 2000 or more. He also becomes downright rude when asked about the inspection fee (you see, he has many many clients and many projects, and he doesn’t want to waste his time with you). What he doesn’t tell you is that he is not an acoustical engineer, he comes with no equipment, and that his inspection report is just a bunch of scribbles and hypotheses. Followed by a minimum of a 10,000 estimate. With the proliferation of noise issues in the bay area, even a few of these inspections” per month works out to a pretty good chunk of change. His website says he was voted the best contractor by
in 2008. What it doesn’t say is that this was in the insulation category which is a pretty specialized area, not as the best overall contractor. It’s also questionable since these online polls are fairly easy to scam. The other reviews posted here seem completely plausible. I predict a retort from him soon regarding how great his services are, how unreliable Unilocal is, and how many satisfied clients he has — just go to his website. I admire Lee immensely. I’d love to be able to go and offer my expert advice to people on scribbled sheets of paper, and take 400 bucks from them each pop.

We hired Lee Brenner to replace windows in our home specifically because we needed sound-​proofing and because this was allegedly his area of expertise. He came to our house and took measurements himself. He made it clear that correct sizing and installation was the key to sound-​proofing, as that was what prevented outside noise from getting through. He took a $ 5000 deposit, and scheduled a date for installation. On the day of the installation the installer looked at the windows, shrugged and informed us that the windows did not fit correctly. He said he would call Lee. When Lee eventually came out he first said he would reorder the windows. Then he called and said he would put little shims in to make them fit. Having previously stressed the importance of correct sizing and installation we were legitimately concerned that our soundproofing goals would not be met using his installation gimmick. He refused to reorder the correct sized windows or refund our deposit. To this day he has both our windows and our deposit and has made no effort to right the situation caused by his mismeasurement/​ordering mistakes. Unfortunately it is impossible to give less than one star on Unilocal because otherwise we would give him negative stars. This contractor is not reliable and does not take responsibility for his mistakes, leaving his clients holding the bag when he messes up.

got some windows from lee brenner. in my opinion, less trustworthy than any contractor i have ever done business with.
i would strongly encourage anyone considering using his services to look elsewhere. if not, get everything in writing down to the last detail.

WOW! My husband and I had Lee Brenner and his crew soundproof our Ceiling in our Condo because we could hear our neighbor’s children running, crying and screaming at all hours of the day and night. Lee’s crew was highly efficient, completing the work in a short amount of time, while leaving our home spotless! (Plus the ceiling looks even better than before — they added a nice crown molding touch that makes it look fabulous!) Now, my husband and I can’t even tell when our neighbor’s are home as we hear nothing from the condo above! They did an amazing job and I would recommend them in an instant! I heard that they also do sound proofing on walls, windows and ceilings, and sell product for the «do-it-yourselfer’s». Something to definitely check out!
