An arborist is someone with a certification from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) We are certified arborists with art degrees. Our clients are home owners and business owners looking for highly skilled arborists. We take care for trees on large estates and trees on busy streets. We make make trees healthy, safe and beautiful. We clean up your entire outdoor living space. We will even clean your gutters. In every aspect of tree care we aspire to meet or exceed the standards set by the International Society of Arboriculture. If you need an arborist, you’ve come to the right place.

History

Established in 2008.

After several years working with the Bay Area’s finest arborists at the Bay Area Arborist Cooperative, Christopher decided to start his own tree company. The greatest thing about the cooperative is sharing ideas with other arborists; the promotion of a culture of a safe work environment and the exchange new information.

ISA Certified Arborist, owner of Trees Company, Christopher Altman, graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Studio Art from Bowdoin College, studied horticulture at San Francisco City College, and received his arborist certification from the International Society of Arboriculture. Starting off as an intern at the Friends of the Urban Forest (FUF), he eventually joined the Bay Area Arborist Cooperative (BAAC). At the BAAC he was trained by the Bay Area’s finest arborists.

ISA Certified Arborist Randy Vasquez got his art degree from California State University, Chico. He is an active member of the San Francisco Bonsai Society.

Dedicated to the creation and preservation the urban forest, Christopher and Randy continue to volunteer at FUF. Trees Company also offers reduced cost tree services to non-​profits and people with reduced incomes such as the elderly.

Happy to dedicate my first review of 2016 to Chris and his team. There are not enough nice things I can say about him! I had him come trim a tree on my bosses property and through no fault of his, it ended up being the wrong tree. My boss made me pay out of pocket and when I reached out to Chris about the situation, he was kind of enough to offer me a discount even though it meant he would barely be making a profit! I fully expected him to laugh in my face because obviously the work was done and the mistake was totally on our end and not his. Instead he sent me the sweetest email and he was so nice I wanted to cry.
Thank you thank you thank you. Don’t think twice if you’re in need of an arborist!

I had five tree specialists come to bid on taking down what I thought was a 45 foot eucalyptus in my back yard. The tree hadn’t been trimmed in years and had recently dropped 3 huge branches in our yard, freaking out our neighbors. After getting 4 bids ranging from $ 2,000 to 5,000 to cut down and remove the tree, Chris came by and immediately pointed out that tree is not an invasive eucalyptus, but a unique Eucalyptus nicholii, also known as Narrow-​Leaved Black Peppermint Willow. Chris explained that not only is the tree safe, but its a highly regarded ‘specimen’ tree. Chris and his team did an exceptional job trimming the tree (as well as some other plants in the yard) for a fraction of what other were asking. I can’t recommend Chris and Trees Company enough. Every step of the job, from filing for a permit for street parking (for the chipper parked in front of the house) to showing up on time and cleaning up the yard, was top notch. Our yard needs more work, but the tree is beautiful and our neighbors are happy. Highly recommended.

When we wanted to trim/​prune the oaks on our newly purchased property, I wanted to use a service that had a licensed arborist. Chris came out and provided a quote which was lower than another arborist/​tree trimming service.
The crew came out and did a great job — cleared the dead branches, pruned the branches and raised the crown. The oaks look fantastic and more light now streams onto the property.
The crew is like a high-​wire act using ropes, hand saws and chain saws to trim the trees.
And the clean-​up job they did was top notch.
Invoiced price was the same as the quote.

The best Arborist.
We’ve have the fortune/​misfortune of owning one of the largest Monterey Cypress trees in SF. Over the past 20 years we’ve hired many Arborists with mixed results. This tree is over 3 stories high and we dread having to get it trimmed.
Chris Altman was a pleasure to deal with. His estimate was fair and they did an outstanding job. They removed a considerable amount (which is what it desperately needed) and pruned all around PGE and telephone wires.
We highly recommend Trees Company and will be using their services from here on out.

Awesome Arborist!
Chris and his team pruned our Victorian Box Tree (Pittosporum undulatum). Trees Company was on-​time and on-​budget in providing a quote. They showed up during the agreed upon work-​window, did the job, cleaned up the area and hauled away the trimmings. Chris is a top-​notch arborist. I had been pruning the tree myself each year, but now that the tree has grown to over 30 feet high I needed a professional arborist to fix my previous mistakes and disentangle the foliage from overhead wires. The tree canopy now looks great. Our neighbors hired Trees Company for their property.

A tree fell on my roof. On quoting/​evaluation day, Christ gave me an estimate that was nearly half of what competitors gave me. In addition to being laid back, he was very knowledgeable and it was pretty clear he knew what he was talking about.
Chris and his crew arrived earlier than expected when it came to remove the tree that had decided to lay down on my roof. They worked quickly and were professional throughout. Thanks guys.

Highly recommend this company. We had a huge ficus tree that was completely overgrown and they did a fabulous job pruning it. They responded very quickly with an estimate and were able to schedule the job very quickly as well. They worked super hard for hours on the tree. Fair price too. Will use them again and again.

Christopher and his team were great! I don’t know much about trimming trees but Christopher’s suggestions were endorsed by my mother-​in-​law who knows all things plants, and now that the work is done, we have been getting compliments from our neighbors as well. Our trees look nice and clean, and one of the trees that needed a lot of help actually looks like it’ll make it through now.
The guys were here on time, and left everything very clean and tidy. I would highly recommend Trees Company to anyone, and we are definitely going to use them again as well!

We needed to open up our view and care for the health of our trees. We knew we needed a real arborist, not just a yard service to do the work. We found Trees Company online. We met in advance of the job with Christopher and explained what we wanted. He offered his input and provided guidance. The day of the job he and his crew did a beautiful job and a fantastic cleanup. The result was awesome. We got our view back, more light, and the trees are open and our neighbors are happy too.

these guys are the real deal if you are looking for arborists or landscapers… punctual, within budget and with a can do attitude. they took out a 40 foot, twenty year old yucca palm for me. and even popped across the fence to trim a neigbour’s palm (with their permission).meanwhile Penny the dog hung out with me and my dog inside. watching the work

What great work Arborist Christopher Altman and his crew did for our 15 trees, many shrubs, and several climbing plants. When Christopher originally did our Arborist work it was very impressive how well he reshaped the trees with his expert sculpturing skills in a very crowded or overgrown back yard. He just returned last week over a year later and did an incredible job cutting back and reshaping some trees to deliver more sun in the areas I requested for the yard.
He is great with the neighbors and is very cautious in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic. When he leaves everything is spotless. His staff also goes above and beyond for a stunning completion.
Really hope people have the opportunity to hire and also learn from Arborist Christopher’s expertise.

I chose Christopher after getting other estimates.
So happy about that decision.
It makes a difference having someone who really knows what’s possible with a tree: an actual arborist. My advise: Hire Trees Company and let them do whatever they think is right. That’s what I did and the outcome is better than I imagined.
He made a large and damaged Ceanothus, one of the most attractive parts of the yard. It was inspiring. Now I look at every tree in The City and think, wow, if only they hired Christopher … an arborist who knows what he’s doing.

This was as easy as it gets — I sent an email with a photo and quick description of the tree I needed trimming. Christopher got back with a very reasonable quote and then came by the next day with his crew and the job was done.
They did a superb job of thinning and shaping an out of control tree, cleaned up and were out of there. He answered my questions about the health and protection of the tree as well.

Chris and his crew (and mascot Penny) were great! They showed up and got to it! Major branch off a huge old avocado, big prune of my fig tree & kaffir lime, plus lots of little stuff. Very nice clean-​up too! I have, by SF standards, a pretty big (intentionally) over-​grown garden – and Chris was able to tune into my aesthetics perfectly…

Christopher and Trees Company provided a great arborist service! I’d highly recommend them for your tree trimming needs. I have a small yard, but one large tree that my neighbor was complaining about. Christopher was really easy to schedule, we have a mutual friend, so i felt comfortable giving him my garage code, he took care of trimming the tree and left everything in great condition.

I chose Christopher to deal with the monstrously overgrown fig tree that had taken over our backyard because of the glowing Unilocal reviews, and he did not disappoint. He returned my initial phone call quickly, came by the next day for an in-​person consultation, and painlessly scheduled the work day for the following week.
Once he and right-​hand man Randy arrived, we talked again through our plan — to cut the tree back quite a bit — but Christopher was very mindful of the aesthetics of our yard as well as the health of both the fig tree and other plants and trees around it.
He also took the liberty of trimming back a lot of overgrown plants in our yard, doing so within the time he had quoted me in the estimate. And they cleaned everything up to such a meticulous extent that you’d have never known they were there.
In short, our yard is completely transformed. I wish I’d taken a before and after picture. Christopher cares about his work and has the skill to match.

Chris and his crew of two – plus Penny the dog – arrived at our house on time for a job of pruning, cleaning up, and even planting that he had estimated would take most of the day. He impressed me with his tree knowledge and emphasis on aesthetics of tree shaping during the consultation, but the proof that his work delivers on the promise is in our much improved front & back yard landscape.
The tristanias, our street trees, used to be three leafy lollipops. Now they are graceful and true trees, with air & light allowed in and sturdy limbs showing, plus practical attention to lifting streetside branches that used to interfere with UPS trucks. Our three birches now have the delicate weeping shape they deserve, minus the shaggy and wayward overgrowth there before. Our pittosporum hedge has been brought down sensitively, returning it to a more harmonious privacy screen. I followed his advice to fill in two gaps in the pitto tree wall along the south side of the house by adding new shrubs rather than trying to somehow get more leafy regrowth on the lower level of the existing plants. He also managed to improve the oddly misshaped line at the top of an otherwise beautiful camelia in the back; it is now quite lovely.
He came in on budget as well. Highly recommended.

Chris gave quick quote and squeezed in our project on short notice, before we started a larger landscaping project.
He returned a couple of months later to take care of two more trees. His team was both lively and efficient. They took care not to damage all the landscaping work we had done and cleaned up everything before they left.
I might need more tree trimming just to get the guys to come hang out again!
