We recently hired California Flooring & Design to install laminate flooring in our condo. After some technical issues with their website in receiving my request for an in home measurement/​quote, the staff, led by Ray, went out of their way to insure I was taken care of. Ray drove out the next day, in pouring rain, to measure our space and get the process started.
The quote was very reasonable, so we moved forward with scheduling the install. Unfortunately, there was some miscommunication with our install date, but once again Ray and Derek moved quickly to rectify the situation. Angel’s crew came out the following day to start the job. Our place is not an easy install, requiring going up and down many stairs, but the crew worked extremely hard to overcome this challenge and finished the job in one weekend.
I believe it’s easy to judge a business when everything goes smoothly, but the true character of a company is when the inevitable bumps in the road present themselves. I must say, CFD passed this test in every way and I plan to get a quote to work on another area of our house. Needless to say, I highly recommend CFD for your next flooring project.

I was dreading hiring a flooring contractor because of all the horrible stories I had heard about flooring contractors that promise but don’t deliver. I was also repeatedly told by friends and family members that any flooring contractor will always delay the completion and take 2 – 3 weeks longer than they promise so that I should be prepared for that. But I did not have the luxury of waiting. I had just bought a home mid month and needed to move out of my old home in 2 weeks. It was either get the flooring done in 1 week WITH NO EXCUSES AND NO DELAYS, or do the flooring later after I had moved in which would have been inconvenient.
A trusted friend referred me to Ray at California Flooring & Design. I went with them for no reason other than the confidence I had in person who referred them. Ray also gave me a discount on the flooring (which was a bonus in my eyes, I would have gone with them anyway), and he helped me pick out a beautiful Brazilian cherry. Labor was also reasonable and in the price range my referral source had told me to expect. It was also nice that price did not go up with change orders and actually they did a few extra things as a courtesy with no charge, such as cut a custom wood piece for a rounded stair. The didn’t try to nickel and dime me, which I appreciate.
To the surprise of my friends and family and all the naysayers, they finished on time, actually in 6 days, 1 day early. Ray knew how important it was to me so on the first 2 days he had 2 separate crews of installers working double time, which I was thankful for because I know they are busy, I’m not their only customer. They did the job fast WITHOUT SACRIFICING QUALITY. Workmanship was up to my standards, and I can sometimes be difficult to satisfy.
Everything so far I expected. There was no reason for the job not to be done on time and it should be done perfectly. What surprised me is that a month after the job was done a furniture delivery company dinged one of my stair noses. I called Ray and asked him if he could send someone out to fix it and I would pay for their time; nothing urgent, just anytime. 5 minutes later Derek called me. Derek asked if he could come now and I said sure and he was there in less than half an hour. He offered to put in a new one or fix it at no charge. I thanked him and asked if instead of fixing it he would show me how to fix it so if it happens again I can fix it on my own. Derek was so patient and nice and took the time to explain step-​by-​step how to fix it and gave me helpful tips and with his guidance fixing it was a piece of cake and now I possess the skills to fix dings if needed. Give a man a fish you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish you feed him for life! Derek didn’t have to do that. It is nice to know that there is a contractor that gives you the same customer service after the job is done as everyone else does just to get you in the door.
Derek just called me again. He wants to come out to my house and see how the stair nose looks, to see his student’s work. What a classy guy and company!

We used this company to do our entire upstairs. Carpet and wood. They came in with a very competitive price and did an excellent job. We shopped 3 vendors and felt most comfortable with them. I highly recommend you consider them as you obtain quotes for your flooring project.

I was very skeptical about all the raving reviews, but I was also referred to CFD by a co-​worker. Their prices were by far the best I have seen and quality is not sacrificed for those lower prices.
I had both laminate and carpet installed in my condo. The work done by all 3 installers was perfect and they took great care in their work. When we discovered a scratch in the kitchen (which we thought could be touched up) they pulled up half the floor to replace it. As it turned out, the scratch from the refrigerator was very long.
I had a few instances of calls not being returned as quickly as I would like and the service in the store on one occasion was lacking. But their professional workmanship more than made up for it.

I just stopped by to see if they could match some tile and hardwood flooring. They did. Of the 4 places I visited they were the most helpful and not pushy great deal fair price on install. nice folks would come back again definitely.

I didn’t expect to find such beautiful tiles at such great prices at this place in Miramar! Scott was very helpful and put together a great combination of tiles for me to remodel my master bath! Also open on Sunday’s! Highly recommend!

Must go with this company! Best customer service I’ve seen since USAA for all you service members. Greg took great care of me, gave me all the information, and Edy led a phenomenal installation. 6 months later and I haven’t found a single mistake. 5 stars.

I bought my laminate at CFD and they had the best price and quality by far! They treated me and my family with kindness and respect. They even had a small playhouse to entertain my kids while me and my husband were looking at our options.
I highly recommend CFD; best price, outstanding customer service, and even had great in-​stock selection.

After spending months at 2 other flooring places (Flooring America in Gateway/​Bressi Ranch) and West Coast Flooring in San Marcos (read my reviews of those places under their business), I contacted California Flooring and Design (CFD). My daughter had used them and their work was beautiful.
I wanted to replace carpeted stairs with oak treads and white risers. The companies stated above said my present hardwood floors, which I wanted to match the treads with, were «white oak» (a more expensive wood). Greg and Steve disagreed and said they were red oak. Greg actually made 2 trips to our house — the second trip was to chemically test the present hardwood flooring: it was red oak!
Every step of the way, I felt this group to be honest and they always met their time commitments. Xavier was the installer and he did a beautiful job. My only criticism is the painting of the risers. I am having my painter (due any minute) repaint them so they have a more professional look.
BTW: The complete installation was almost $ 1,000 less than the Flooring America quote. Don’t know how it compared to the West Coast Flooring Center quote… I’m still waiting for that…
I highly recommend CFD. The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars was because the painting was inadequate.

What an incredible business. They are really professional. This review is mostly geared towards Greg and Ray, who were great to work with from beginning to end. They spend a lot of time giving us their honest opinion about which wood would look best in our home, best wood for the price, etc. and they came out to our home and gave a free estimate.
After we purchased our wood, I lost my cool with Ray (I fully blame being a new mom and chronic sleeplessness) since two of our invoices didn’t match. I felt SO ashamed of myself for the next few days, about how I completely lost my temper without even giving them a chance to explain things or rectify the situation. I was rude and awful! But, instead of treating me horribly back, they went above and beyond to quickly fix things and were very very kind. I would purchase again from them in a heartbeat (although I doubt they’d want to deal with me again haha)… maybe once my kid is a few months older and I’ve had better sleep. :)

We just had our wood floors installed by CFD and they were top notch. Angel (the lead installer) and his crew were always on time, professional, hard working, honest and flexible. Angel explained every step of the process and was up front with me when issues were encountered (our floor was very uneven and we had braces throughout the second floor that had to be removed, leveled and re-​installed). Angel always responded to text or call within a few minutes and the coordination between Angel and CFD was seamless. CFD was great to work with but Angel really stole the show. I would have this crew work on my house any day of the week!

I checked multiple places before doing wood flooring on my house and this place was the best. Prices are very competitive and installation quality was also very good, I would definitely recommend this place to friends. Ask for Scott, he was super friendly, professional and very knowledgeable.

Many of the reviews you’ll read about CFD will rave about a perfect experience, and these reviews are great and informative, and they’re why I contacted CFD to begin with. This review however is important because it reflects an imperfect situation I went through with CFD, and it addresses how they handled the problem — very professionally and with the goal to leave me and my husband satisfied. I think this is the mark of a good company. Things cannot always go perfectly, and it’s important to know how to respond when sh*t hits the fan. CFD handled it well, and they did good work in the end.
Here’s what happened. A previous contractor (Cendali Design & Remodeling — do NOT hire that company) royally screwed us over when he failed to level the floor prior to gluing down some beautiful acacia engineered hardwood that we purchased. So the floor was totally screwed up. I’m talking it was like a trampoline in some spots and had big bulges in other spots. Totally screwed. So we started searching for a reputable floor company to fix things.
We talked to a few flooring contractors, all of whom we liked, but we ultimately hired CFD after an informative consultation with Gregg. We got a quote, and the quote left room for extra costs of subfloor leveling («floating»), TBD upon tearing up the existing sh*ttily installed wood.
Well, nothing really went according to plan. CFD got a late start because they forgot to bring a necessary piece of equipment, then tearing up the floor took longer than hoped because Cendali had glued it directly to light-​weight cement, thus necessitating a gawdaweful racket of a machine to tear the wood up without totally destroying the subfloor. Then CFD got further behind schedule, and one day when my husband and I stopped by to check on progress they were installing the floor before the subfloor was done being floated (some miscommunication? someone sloppily missed the fact that it wasn’t floated/​level yet? who knows.) A couple angry phone calls later, and installation was halted and the floating back on track.
Ultimately CFD took much longer than anticipated, and we had to find living arrangements for an extra week, board our pets for the extra week, etc. It was an expensive pain in the butt. Then came the bill. It was well over our anticipated worst-​case-​scenario cost. (Our subfloors were apparently in especially terrible condition so the «floating» cost was very high). Still, all things considered, we were kind of pissed. We thought, no way are we going to pay this premium price for a big delay, a pain in the butt, and us having to check up on them and halt the installation.
But here’s why I’m giving them five stars (well, 4.5 if I could). This was a hard job because our floor was so screwed up, but CFD made our floors look really good in the end, and they also responded well to our concerns. We emailed them with a list of what we were displeased about and told the we wanted to talk about the cost. They said come on in, let’s talk, we want you to be happy. When we came in, they had gone over all of our concerns with their installers. They accepted full responsibility for the screw-​ups. They apologized. They took a significant amount off our bill. They were helpful. They offered to help us with our California State Licensing Board complaint against Cendali, since they could vouch for how badly he botched that job.
Basically, they did what a good company should do when things go badly. They owned up to it, they listened to what upset us, they did their best to fix it. And that’s really all you can ask for, cause let’s face it, no one is going to be perfect all the time. And at the end of the day, our floors look very very nice.

Let me start my review by saying that I was cautiously skeptical of all the five-​star reviews on Unilocal.But let me say that after having California Flooring install my wood floors, I can honestly say that the five-​star reviews are well-​deserved. They were very friendly, professional and most importantly, skilled at what they do.
Deciding to remove carpet and replace with wood was just the start point. We didn’t have much luck finding what we wanted until I went to California Flooring. They have a great selection. I found a few samples to take home. Ray and his entire team were so helpful. They offered to set up a measure appointment with Greg. When he came to the house, he was very thorough in explaining the processes and more importantly, the charges for every aspect of the install. There were no surprise add-​ons that he failed to mention at this meeting.
While I had met with other installers, I ultimately chose California Flooring. Overall I was impressed and confident that they were the right choice.
We were assigned Ismael and Chris as our installers. They did a great job. They worked quickly and efficiently the entire time. They knew what they were doing. They removed 1500 square feet of carpet, moved five bedrooms of furniture and installed the new wood floors all in four and a half days. They stayed within their projected complete date. That in itself is amazing.
We are more than pleased with the end result. Thank you to Ray, Greg, Ismael and Chris as well as the entire team at California Flooring.

Five stars and they’re not even finished yet. I endured two different flooring companies that feel it’s appropriate to be… well… dicks. I know the difference between an annoying customer, and someone with genuine concerns. They apparently don’t.
This company? It’s really quite simple. You talk to the customer. You send someone out to monitor the process of the job. You ask them if they have any questions. If they have any concerns, you address those concerns. You know the difference between a reasonable vs irrational request and you respond accordingly. You take care of their belongings. Protect their existing floors. You clean up after yourself. You just… act nice. This was my experience with this company. As a result, everything went fine. Highly recommend.

We dealt mostly with Charles and Greg. Charles has both install and product knowledge while Greg has the product and industry knowledge. I wouldn’t describe either of them as the typical sales person since they are very laid back and don’t pressure you at all. They have a great selection of flooring options to fit almost any budget and take the time to explain the benefits of each.
Prices are very competitive on both the product and labor. That being said, a flooring project can quickly add up to a lot so they also offer low or no interest financing options to help out.
I do a lot of home improvement tasks myself so I watched the installation process closely. Our installer was Christian and he did an excellent job on both the floor and baseboards.
You can tell they appreciate your business and aren’t focused on high volume and low customer service like a lot of others are. When you shop here you don’t have to worry if you’re being taken advantage of, instead you only have to worry about picking which color or pattern you want on your floor.

I love the service, attention to detail, great pricing and wonderful people to work with. The project was above and beyond expectations.

Charles is the man. He took care of everything, showed him a few pictures and he found me exactly what I was looking for. The installers were great, I had a ton of stuff still in my condo and they worked around all the clutter and did an absolutely perfect job. I seriously can not find a flaw. Awesome company they have earned all my future business

5 stars are not enough for this company ! We had water damage & needed to replace all the flooring on the first floor. CFD was very flexible & worked with us through several delays due to insurance & bank paperwork. Everyone we worked with was very pleasant & you truly felt that they valued your business.
When the job started, every work team from the demo to prep to installers were on time & so very courteous ! They kept us informed every day & let us know what to expect the next day.
The workmanship is incredible — the stair detail & baseboards are beautiful. CFD has been the one bright star in our reconstruction process & I will definitely use them again for other rooms in our home. Don’t go anywhere else unless you like to be aggravated by contractors who leave you hanging.
