Service Champions Heating & Air Conditioning

I love these guys! Yes, they are a little expensive, but totally worth it. I always receive excellent customer service from every member of the team I deal with from the phone call I get reminding me it’s time for my semi annual service to the techs who always arrive on time. I’ve been using Service Champions for my maintenance needs since I bought my house about a decade ago and yesterday during the service we determined that some repairs were in order. After going over the issues that needed to be addressed and looking and the cost of the repairs vs a new system I decided to bite the bullet and replace the whole shebang. Travis who was there just to do the maintenance ended up spending several hours with me going over options and measuring and making sure that I got exactly what I needed then scheduled me for the install the next day. This morning Jesse and Sean arrived bright and early and got to work taking care of the job. They have been wonderfully courteous and professional and went over everything with us again this morning to be sure to address any concerns or questions we had. I am always so impressed by the fellas they send out and how personable and efficient they are.
A couple of little things that make all the difference to me as a customer:
1) They get a second opinion when determining something is a safety hazard. One of my issues was a cracked heat box which Travis immediately called into the office and had another tech sent to my house to confirm that indeed there was an issue.
2) I started using Service Champions as a single woman but I am now married. Sometimes my husband is the one who is home when they come, sometimes it’s me, sometimes it’s both of us. There is ZERO difference in the way they treat the two of us. Often times I feel like service folks try to scam the «little lady» because they assume us to be ignorant or something. I have never experienced that here though. I have never had a tech ignore me or defer to my husband or look to him when asking a question.
3) Free Thanksgiving turkey! I love that as an MVP I get a certificate for a free turkey from them every year. I know it’s silly, but it’s a little thing that totally makes me smile and happy to be a customer.
4) This is going to sound silly, but every single tech they have ever sent to my home has been a fresh faced, clean cut, friendly, good looking fella.

Brandon C and Nick G were awesome. They came to our home for our quarterly service and were pleasant, helpful, and knowledgeable. Changed the filter, identified problems with our water heater and answered all of our questions. No hard sell here either. They even offered to change any light bulbs we might have needed changed. LOL. Anyway, great guys and great call. We would be happy to have them back on future calls… or a game of ping pong, but only if they play left handed.

Both Mike Kinzel and Nick Griffin displayed excellent customer service… Their knowledge of our units and there ability to explain to me what they were going to do as well what they did set my mind at ease.

Technician Dee J arrived at my house on time for our appointment. I have had multiple heating companies come out to check out the problem with my gas furnace, every single one of those companies provided me with answers that did not fix my problem not to mention having to pay a few hundred dollars every single time someone looked at it. So glad that I decided to call service champions because within a 30 minute period, my technician was able to pinpoint the exact problem with my furnace and provide me with relevant options to get it working again. I cannot believe how much time and money I had wasted with the other companies. As for my technician Dee J, he was phenomenal. He arrived with a smile, wore booties to keep my floor clean and had a wealth of knowledge that helped narrow down the problem. If I EVER have trouble with my system again, I am going to call and request him again. Can’t say enough great things. Now I no longer have to sit in a house at 58 degrees! THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES OVER! :)

Zack Smith came and gave our home a «check-​up». He was very knowledgeable, very courteous, and when finished he gave us a clearer understanding of what needs to be done to make our home more energy efficient. Would highly recommend Service Champions and Zack. All employees from there have been excellent.

We had our fall system check this week on our 17 year old system. Ian Hazelwood spent about 1 ½ hours fully testing out our HVAC system. While the results were similar to prior inspections Ian gave us a clearer understanding of just what is going on with our system, and the likely issues we are going to be facing in the near future. Other technicians have done the same in the past, but Ian explained how the PACE program would likely help us better afford the upgrade we are going to need.
We appreciated his information, and we will be doing research on the program.

Michael Kinzel was very polite, and friendly, he also did a great job in a timely manner. I would highly recommend this technician.

Of course our air conditioner quit working on the hottest weekend we have had all year! I called Service Champions because they originally installed the unit at our house a few years before we purchased it. They were unable to come and make repairs until the next Thursday — that was a bit frustrating. The service technician was extremely helpful, knowledgable and friendly. It took the technician about 2 minutes to tell me we needed a new dual capacitor (cost to diagnose $ 69). It took the technician approximately 15 minutes to replace the part. A dual capacitor costs approximately $ 10. So, for 15 minutes of work and a $ 10 part, I was charged $ 369. Final bill: $ 69 + $ 369 = $ 438. Talk about mark-​up! The only redeemable part to this repair (and deserves 5 stars) was the friendly and polite service technician.

Nick Witte came out to do a routine A/​C maintenance. He is a young military vet, clean cut, well spoken, attentive, polite and answered all of my questions.
I’m always happy with the techs from Service Champions. They are professionals!

How fortunate I got a HVAC quote from Service Champions shortly before my circa 1970s unit finally gave up the ghost! Nicholas G. was very helpful and professional in setting up my quote, set up my rebates and Ygrene financing (5 years financing is cheaper than cash, because the payments come out of your property tax, which is deductible to the IRS); when it turned out the unit he’d quoted wouldn’t quite fit the site, he upgraded it without extra charge, and he expedited the installation when we came back from vacation to find the old unit completely seized up. Shawn and Adam installed the new unit and were friendly, neat and efficient; they also installed the new Nest thermostat that came with the system. Chaz followed up with a duct test, and installed a new CO2 monitor and 4 new smoke alarms. All-​in-​all, an excellent experience!

Mick Kinzel, I think is one of your finest technicians. Very professional, and really knows his job. I am looking over his shoulder, and he was explaining a good amount of the workings of our ac unit. Not rushing, just getting the job done,

These guys were great and very courteous. They arrived on time, were very professional, completed the tune-​up and provided some guidance on things to think about for the future. I was having a known issue with my AC Unit and they had clear, upfront and fair pricing.

We called Service Champions because a friend recommended them when we started having cooling issues with our upstairs AC unit. It just wasn’t cooling as well as we would like. I decided to sign up for the Silver Maintenance Value Plan (MVP) because I knew our furnaces were old so I thought that maintaining them until they completely failed would be the best way to go.
Service Champion came out quickly (within two days of my initial call) and did spend time walking through the entire upstairs and downstairs systems.
At the end of the walk-​through, we were then told that we needed to replace all of our ducts throughout the house @over $ 700 per duct. We have 25 ducts throughout the house. He also said our coolant was low, we needed a capacitor, two new motors for our 7 yr old AC units, and that it would be a good idea to replace our furnaces. We pulled back and said that we would prefer to focus on the upstairs system and got a quote for new ducts and a new furnace. Of course, these two items would still not help with the initial cooling issue — just make it more efficient for airflow. The quote came in @over $ 13k. During our quoting process, we were looking at some images on the «technician’s» phone when he received the text: «Did you sell yet?». We figured this was his manager. Obviously, we were done with the conversation.
We ended up getting some other services to come out and do the same sort of activity and found out that by adding $ 250 worth of coolant did the trick for now. We even got a quote from another company for an entire system update (AC unit, furnace, coils, ducts) for almost the same price as the duct+furnace from Service Champions.
I decided that we were not going to continue our Silver MVP plan and called to close it out. That’s when I found out that the monthly plan was by unit. We had 4 units: 2 AC units & 2 furnaces. This came out to be close to $ 400 worth of service for nothing other than walking around and cleaning out the AC units a little from debris.
Not planning on calling them again after this. The whole thing felt like a scam. We learned.

Ben was very professional and thorough. He explained what the tune-​up included and all of the results he found. He has a great attitude and work ethic. Sammy was along as a trainee and I believe he will be a great asset to the company.

Once again, Steve Gilchrist and Service Champions have shown me why I’m going to use them and only them from here on out. It took one phone call to get a polite and knowledgeable tech out to my house, who proceeded to fix my problem within 45 min!!! Wow! You guys are great, keep up the amazing service! It makes all the difference! Thank you service champions

Zack came today to do a whole house testing on both our air conditioning and heating as part of our service package. He took pictures in the attic and also ran tests inside the house. He showed us where we are losing heat/​air and recommended that we have someone come out and give us an estimate to make our systems run efficiently. We were not surprised by his results as Solar City ran similar tests when we had solar installed a couple of years ago. We are having someone from Champion come out and give us an estimate on making some of the repairs/​changes. Zack was very polite, friendly, and made good recommendations that were in keeping with Solar City — so no surprises, nor did anything he made us aware of seem unlikely.

My experience with Service Champions from beginning to finish was superbly fantastic. They are extremely professional and do everything they say they are going to do. I cannot recommend this company enough. Stephen was immediately likable, took the consultative approach in finding what was going to work for our needs best, did all of the work in getting us qualified for financing (easy!!) and made us a remarkable deal on a new furnace, air conditioning unit with new ducts included. We have been without for so long, and Stephen made it possible! Thank you so much Stephen for everything! We are so happy to have clean central heat and air once again! Your the best!

So, I am already a Silver MVP member and get an email offer to upgrade to Gold MVP and get a free Nest thermostat installed. I think, great! I’m not loving our existing thermostat because it is a hassle to change the settings on it – plus it’s not «smart». Anyway, the first technician arrives and starts to install the Nest. We chat for a bit and go over the functions of the thermostat. And then suddenly there is no power to the thermostat.
I ask if I should go check the fuse box, he answers «no». The tech explains that he likely accidentally touched two wires, but that the relevant fuse is up near the furnace. He goes up to the attic space and is up there for about 30 minutes. I’m now well into the time I thought I would be back at the office. I holler up and ask how things are going, he answers that he’s looking for the problem and it will likely be another 15 – 20 minutes. He finally comes down and says he thinks the «brain» of the system went down (control board).
Tech #1 says that a second more seasoned tech is coming to confirm. I’m now staring at losing my whole day to this project, and worse, having no Heater because now my old thermostat doesn’t work either. In fact, Tech #1 writes up an order saying he arrived to an «inoperable» system, which is not true because it simply was not actively heating at the time. I write down myself on the order, system was «off» at tech arrival. And off goes Tech #1.
Tech #2 arrives a few hours later — my day is shot because not only did I not get to the office, I have burned it by researching how a Nest Thermometer install can fry a control board, small claims court, true corporate name for Service Champions, alternative HVAC repair companies, etc. In a nutshell, I’m a whirly-​eyed maniac when Tech #2 arrives – I’m ready for a fight. To make matters worse he starts telling me that Tech #1 tells him that (1) he arrived to a «no power» system and (2) that I reported I had been having problems with the system. Not only FALSE, but if Tech #1 said that, outright LIES.
Now that I’m really frustrated I start to tell Tech #2 that if the the «brain» is fried the company is going to have to eat the cost.
At this point, readers may be wondering why the four-​star review …
And here’s the reason, at the end of the day, my system works, I got what I called for, and paid zero dollars to get it done. Plus, and probably most importantly, after chatting for a while after the repair/​install of the Nest I came to the conclusion that Tech #1 did not lie to Tech #2, rather it was a bad case of «telephone». Tech #1 and I talked about my smartvent having problems and that was probably what was communicated to Tech #2. As for the «no power» comment, I’m guessing that too was a bit of miscommunication.
I should also mention that throughout the process the technicians were professional, never confrontational, and very sorry that I had missed work. Other companies I have dealt with in similar circumstances tend to backpedal and get real defensive. I did not have that problem with the Service Champion technicians. While they didn’t have the authority to zero balance for any major repairs, I got the feeling that if it came to that, management would likely work with me to resolve the issue.
All in all, I am a happy customer of Service Champions and will continue to be for so long as they continue to provide the same excellent service.
