McMahon Moving

The guys were bit late but *shrug*. What matters is that they were clear and honest about the price, they worked quickly, they were friendly, and they didn’t break anything.

Shane, Brian and Sam did a fantastic job helping me move from Berkeley to Mountain View.
The first day of moving they stayed with me unloading the truck until past 9pm (and drove the 1hour back) after I hugely underestimated the quantity of things I had to move.
Absolutely nothing was damaged and they were very patient while I finished the packing as the decision to move was a quick one.
Will definitely use them again for future moves.

The McMahon brothers were friendly, strong, and didn’t waste any time. I particularly liked that booking them took less than 3 minutes, since when you’re getting ready for a move you don’t want to spend a bunch of time on the phone. They got the job done efficiently (3.5 hours for a family of four) and for much less than other moving companies in the area. They asked reasonable questions and followed our instructions on handling of all the items. Nothing was damaged and everything was put where we wanted it. Also, they were available on short notice when several other companies were not, which was a huge relief.
The only reasons for 4 stars instead of 5 are:
1. They came 50 minutes late.
2. Once the truck was loaded with our possessions they took a 15-​minute break «to get Gatorade» with the truck holding our stuff. Why didn’t they just bring refreshments along? Or was that code for something else?
3. They didn’t bring any packing tape because they left it at their last job. When ours ran out we had to pause to go by more from the local store.
None of the above were a very big deal for us, so I’m pretty happy with them and would hire them again. (I hope I never have to move again!)

Shane and Brian did a great job getting us from south Berkeley to north Berkeley, we had already been getting our stuff out bits by bits, and left the heavy stuff to the professionals. They moved out huge desks, filing cabinets, and the family piano, all across a wooded gravely trail. They were amazing, had great attitudes and we’d definitely use them again! Want more bang for your bucks? They were the *most* reasonably priced movers I found in Berkeley, no crazy travel fees for local moves, or outrageous surcharges. Very honest, friendly and hardworking.

It was Sunday morning, our scheduled moving day, (also the day before I started my new job), and the movers we scheduled did not show up and would not return our calls. We were frantic to find someone at the last minute. Shane and his crew saved us! We had to move a 4 bedroom house to another 4 bedroom house with big stairs to boot. Shane and co. were super efficient, fast, professional and they got the job done really well. Also Shane really knows his stuff and I was impressed with his problem solving skills when the crew encountered more difficult furniture challenges. I highly recommend McMahon moving!

Shane, Tom, & Brian rock every time. Today was the third job they’ve done for me this year. Each with its own challenges, small stairwells, heavy expensive furniture, heavy glass/​marbel, and priceless artwork. All moved with white glove care. No damages. Additionally Shane & Brian did a move for me a while back in the pouring rain, they were champs! Highly recommended! Hardworking! On time!

I had Shane and his assistant help me move all my stuff from my one-​bedroom apartment to storage for the summer back in May, and they were really really great! First, I was strapped to find a moving company FAST, like in 2 (or 1, really, I put off finding movers way too long) days fast, and they were very willing to make last-​minute plans for me. Shane was very professional and friendly: he was willing to give me drive to the Wells Fargo to get their payment.
Of course the moving itself is the important part. Shane and his assistant were very quick to take my stuff on the day of the move – we were done moving everything in less than 2 hours. None of my stuff was damaged or ill used, despite a large bed frame with moving parts having to be moved down a flight of stairs. Shane also helped me get all my stuff to fit in a tiny storage space; he really knows his way around furniture Tetris.
One nitpick, but it’s forgivable: they came about an hour and half later than originally scheduled, because of a previous move that took much longer. This is kind of thing that’s annoying, but also completely normal for smaller moving companies with fewer hands to help. So note to all of you out there: even if you do have a last minute move, please just work in a spare day for the move (no moves planned down to the last hour!).
Will definitely ask Shane to move my stuff again when I come back to the Bay Area.

Shane and Co were awesome. He had a great crew of trustworthy, efficient guys. They accommodated my move in a pinch and were really easy to work with. They were in and out in a really great time. They were really attentive and careful with my very delicate stuff. I’m soon to use them again! Thanks guys for all your hard work!

Shane and his assistant helped us move my 99 year old father-​in-​law from an assisted living place in Emeryville to one in Oakland. It was a short move with only a small studio apartment of furniture, clothing etc.
They were about ½ hour late showing up but did call to tell us they were delayed in traffic. When they arrived and parked the truck, they jumped out and immediately went to work. They had all the necessary equipment and were very efficient.
The mechanized hospital bed was quite heavy. They managed it themselves and even refused the offer of help from my son and me. The entire move was accomplished in less than three hours and the charge was very reasonable.
Hopefully we will never again have to move my 99 year old father –in-​law, but if we do, we will call Shane.

Shane and his moving team did an excellent job! They were professional, on time, experienced, and had affordable pricing. I would hire them again for other jobs and would highly recommend their services.

I don’t want to go into details. I wasn’t comfortable and wouldn’t hire them again.

I don’t like to leave negative reviews, but I do like to warn my fellow Unilocalers.
My first hint that Shane was a poor choice was when I emailed and he asked me to call. I called and the number was, «Not receiving calls.»
I persevered and arranged for a move beginning at 10 am on Friday. At 10:30, Shane called to tell me that his truck had broken down and he was going to be late because he would need to rent a truck. They finally arrived at 11:10 am. Shane was far from charming; in fact, he seemed almost put out at having to move my stuff.
I got them started and left Shane and his helper at my place in SF with my former roommate to direct them. At my new place in Oakland, I got a call on my cellphone, Shane was calling to complain that my bed was too heavy and that he wasn’t sure they could move it. Really? Isn’t that why I hired movies. According to my former roommate, Shane and his helper argued with each other for about 30 minutes about moving the bed. With my roommate’s help, they got it into the truck.
When it came time to pay, Shane told me that it was $ 80 an hour. The ad on Craigslist had said $ 70. He told me that was an old ad. It was easier just to pay him and get him out of my place. After they left the apartment, I could hear Shane and his helper arguing at the end of the driveway. Apparently Shane owed the guy money. While I unpacked, I realized they had taken the legs off my leather chair. I called my roommate who said Shane had taken the legs off, wrapped them in a blanket and put them on the truck. I called Shane who said he would look for them and bring them to me. .. Five days later, no call, no legs.
They also removed the pole from my dressmaker form — that’s missing too.
Just plain terrible.

I called a couple weeks in advance and they were courteous when discussing a moving date with me. They sent me a confirmation e-​mail confirming the time and date of the move. Good so far!
The day of the move killed any good ratings I was hoping to give this moving company. They did not show up at our scheduled time; in fact, they were 6 hours late! When they eventually showed up, they stated that they had to get somewhere that night and could not do our move, but they would move our things the next morning. Needless to say, due to other schedule conflicts, I had to cancel that new time and use a different company entirely. I guess they were nice enough when I called to cancel.

Shane McMahon was wonderful when I needed to move a ridiculously long and fragile glass display case. I got price quotes from four other movers, and most didn’t even want to do the job. I had some trepidations since Shane was the low bidder, but he and his team did a great job. It took awhile for him to round up enough men to safely lift the item into the truck, but it arrived at its destination in the Oakland hills without a scratch. I will certainly call him again and highly recommend his company.

I called last minute and Shane was able to come through and get things done on extremely short notice. We had someone bow out and we had had a whole house to move. He knows his craft very well and got us packed up and unloaded efficiently. It was a long day’s work and Shane showed up and helped us get it all taken care of.
Hire him on. you’ll get your things moved properly as well as hear a few good Irish jokes.

I really appreciated the moving professionalism displayed by McMahon Moving today. Nathan did a great job staying in touch through my unclear schedule and reassuring me that everything would happen as I had hoped. Shane was clearly the more experienced — effective at planning how best to move things, at exercising care around the handling of my furniture and in thinking through how to maximize space in my small storage unit, which is great, I know I can use the space well. They were courteous, focused and hard-​working. Do your best to calculate how much stuff you want to move because they’ll accommodate with appropriate-​sized vans.
I will definitely call them again when the need arises.

McMahon moving really helped me out in a pinch. We had been moving our belongings for days, and when it came down to the last furniture items we were completely worn out.
Shane and co handled everything with great care, and had equipment ready to assist in moving the furniture. They were honest about how long things would take, and didn’t rush the job or take unnecessarily long.
I will definitely use McMahon Moving in the future if I need to transport any heavy items. These guys were top notch.

Shane and his partner was good. Got the job done on time and was efficient

We got hold of Shane to move us from San Mateo to SF at the very last minute and we were glad he was able to do it although they didn’t get started until late afternoon since they had an earlier move the same day. The 3 guys (Shane, Sean, Nathan) were very professional, helpful, friendly and very capable. I highly recommend Shane and company for any moving help you may need. Thank you Shane, you got us out of a bind.

I guess Shane doesn’t need the business, even though this is an easy and quick job in SF’s Potrero Hill where Shane claims his business is located:
1. Shane didn’t respond to my emails on his CL ad
2. Shane didn’t return my calls a week later
3. When I did get him on the phone, Shane said he was busy and would call me back – and never did
If Shane doesn’t need or want the business, he could just say so and not waste the customer’s time.
I found somebody else on Unilocal and I will let you know how that turned out.
