An unbelievable dining experience. You need to split a meal with someone, or you’re having leftovers, period. In my opinion, they need to STOP expanding their menu. It’s better when it’s simpler. Steak. Frites. That should be it. Also – that’s not butter for your bread. It’s WHIPPEDBEEFFAT. (OK, maybe you should only go here once a year, tops.)

My review is about 8 months late… but better late than never. Christmas Eve and I didn’t make any plans. I was in shock when I was able to make a same day reservation at this place! Then I thought, oh my, this must be a bad place because why would there still be a table in such short notice? it turns out that they just had a soft opening 12 days ago so not much buzz; hence, still very quiet. This restaurant is part of Butchers Club — it must be good! Their menu was $ 550 per person for a salad and a steak with duck fat fries. The salad was a wedge of lettuce with a light dressing. It was ok. Nothing special. I found the bread and butter they gave each table more interesting. I ordered medium for my steak and it came out perfect. The 40-day dry ages beef was amazing! I loved every bite! The fried was just so-so. Dessert is extra charge and there were only 2 choices: cheese tray or cheesecake. We didn’t order dessert. That is one of my favourite steak houses. I never got a chance to come back after this one time and don’t know if they got busier. But I would highly recommend this place for a nice dinner.

Excellent dry aged beef, and good service. This place follows the trend of stake and fires only menu, but the quality of the beef is a cut above the other places with this concept. Also the duck fat fires are worth worth all the fuss.

I may be biased but I ate at Steak Frites with a friend last Tuesday. We both had ribeye and a glass of Cotes D Rhone. Excellent Steak, even better green peppercorn sauce and great value wine by the glass. Tony the manager there is a true gentleman.

I arrived at 8:30pm for a late Sunday dinner; surprised to see the place completely empty(as you can see from my photo of the interior), but all the better to have the place all to the four of us. The menu is simple, either lunch or dinner. With additional options in the secret menu. We had three basic dinner sets plus one with lobster tail(from the secret menu) The basic set was impeccable. The starting salad was a quarter cut cabbage, which made for a nice hearty crunchy bite with each mouthful. Loved it! The steak was flavourful and meaty, the Butchers Club do their aging right! The side wedges were not really my thing though, too thick if you ask me. The lobster tail was alright, but nothing amazing. As if I wasn’t full enough, I ordered a Chocolate Cheese Cake at the end. Again, not really to my taste and there are much better choices in the area, I would prefer to stick with the basic dinner set next time. As opposed to the previous review(we weren’t served by Tony the manager), I have to add that service was quite unprofessional. The waitress didn’t tell us there was a drinks menu at the back of the food menu. She didn’t smile or display any form of friendliness. The other waitress was in DND mode, openly playing with her phone for our entire dinner. All the said, with this place being relatively young, the steak here is great value for money. And I think some minor improvements will quickly propel this place to the top ranks. In the meantime, I will stick will La Vache for my steak and frites.

The new steak and fries restaurant by Butcher’s Club recently opened few weeks ago. How does it far compared to so many choices around the neighborhood? I set out to find that over dinner with few friends. Pros: 1. The menu is easy. There’s NO choices and when that comes to wanting to eat good steak and fries, it makes life easier. You just get 12 oz 40 day dry-aged ribeye with fries cooked in duck fat and a wedge salad. 2. The service is outstanding. Granted its newly opened but Tony, the manager is funny and the rest of the staffs are attentive and friendly(granted we all speak french but still). 3. We had a cheese platter and the Epoisse was a-ma-zing. It might be stinky for non cheese eaters but having tried many epoisse, the one Tony brought out was delicious so we ended up buying 1 to bring home for our Christmas dinner. 4. We paired it with a nice bottle of a 2010 Trapiche Malbec from Argentina and it was perfect. 5. Steak was cooked medium-rare on their recommendation and it was great. I like mine more on the rare side but this one was good, not too much fat either. Cons: 1. Can be a bit pricey(although we got 2 bottles of wine but there’s not much variety in terms of pricing). 2. Could be hard for a large group since the place is small and there’s no choice for non meat eaters. 3. The duck fries weren’t anything special. Perhaps the steak overshadowed the fries. 4. Sauce on the wedge salad was a tad too much. You WILL leave the restaurant full and satisfied. The pros way outweigh the cons and i would recommend this place for damn good steak and fries.
