Good pub grub in a casual atmosphere. Heavily caters to the ex-​pats that commonly populate SoHo and the escalators in Central.
The burgers are tasty and the service is friendly. Good seats for people watching are available in the front.
Great for lunch, but it would not be very high on my list of dinner choices.

If you’re wandering around Soho or the mid-​city escalators looking for a divey place to have a drink, and don’t mind being surrounded by ex-​pats and tourists (isn’t everyone in Soho an ex-​pat or tourist?) then Cochrane’s fits the bill. The staff is welcoming and serves baskets of roasted peanuts and don’t mind that the floor is littered in shells, and they have an extensive beer list (although they were out of several of the beers on the list). They don’t mind good-​natured, mid-​day drunkenness, singing along to the music, and a bit of dancing.
If you’re looking for a quiet spot or something trendy, keep walking. Otherwise, Cochrane’s is a pretty good stop for a few afternoon beers.
