This review is for Wagyu’s breakfast. I don’t deal out 5 stars often, but this is absolutely deserved. Wagyu’s breakfast menu is impossible. There are so many delicious-sounding options, you might sit there for 20 minutes trying to decide. I went with the pancakes. And while they were totally top-notch, I got serious food envy when I saw my wife’s corn fritter avocado stack. Wow. See the picture– I can’t begin to explain with words how good it looks. And it tasted just as great. The wide open-street dining is perfect for dog owners, though people watching is almost non-existent. Likely because all of the LKF/Wyndham Street partiers just went home 2 – 3 hours ago. But I digress. You want the best brekkie in HK? This is it.

Solid breakfast menu, but the lunch and dinner menu, while promising on their face, are lackluster in taste/quality. I’ve been here for breakfast several times. One of the great aspects of Wagyu is that they open early — at 7:30 a.m., so you can grab a bite before going into the office(or after teaching a 7:00 a.m. spin class — whatever your profession may be). Also a great spot for business-centric morning breakfast/coffee meetings, as the restaurant offers free wifi so you can access email, VPN/office networks, or other meeting essentials. The coffee is really good, the breakfast dishes are really good, and they’ll happily substitute out any undesired side items that you’d like(I usually sub out the sides of toast and potatoes in exchange for the delicious roasted cherry tomatoes). The only ding I have against the breakfast(and I imagine probably applies to lunch and dinner as well) is that some of the accompaniments aren’t on par with the poshness that this restaurant tries to exude. For example, the«maple syrup» advertised on the menu is actually just the garbage«syrup» that’s made from water, sugar, and brown coloring(not the real stuff that comes from maple trees); best way around this is to request honey instead(which is in fact 100% real honey). Additionally, the«butter“pats that they serve with the bread look and taste like garbage margarine; just go for olive oil instead(which, by the same token, is fairly light colored and not super olivey with that rich green tint — but it’s better than the alternative margarine crap). Or, if it’s breakfast, stick with jam only — which is actually a nice tasty blackberry preserve. I’ve been here for lunch once and was waaaaay underwhelmed by the quality of steak — considering that the restaurant presumably should be known for its steak(given its name). I had the Thai chili beef salad, and while the flavors were tasty, the steak was not as tender as I expected it to be, maybe because it was cooked more«well done» than it should have been, maybe because the quality of the cut wasn’t great, or maybe a little of both. My lunch partner had the same issue with the steak that came with her steak and eggs(it was 11:45 so we had the option of both breakfast and lunch menus). If I ever return for lunch or dinner and have an improved experience with a different menu item, I will happily bump up my rating in an updated review. As far as the bar area is concerned, it’s a great spot to meet up with friends for a quick coffee or a drink and is centrally located on Wyndham Street just above Lan Kwai Fong. Select drinks are offered for a reduced price during happy hour. Verdict: I’ll keep coming back for those long leisurely breakfasts and coffees, as I usually have a few hours to kill in the mornings between classes in Central and like the fact that I can zone into my wifi-connected computer and be productive while getting an awesome first meal of the day. Lunch and dinner — I’ll probably look elsewhere on Wyndham before coming here.

I used to love coming here back when they first opened and even a few years after that. However, the last three times I came here the service is horrible and none of the servers seem to know the menu or care. Food quality and taste has also deteriorated even though on the surface it looks good. I can’t find one single Cantonese speaking server as they are all mostly Filipina or non-English native. I am very disappointed as Wagyu used to be one of my favorite haunts. To give them credit, they did comp a dish and two drinks without us requesting it. I do appreciate that.

Good food, crappy service is how I’d best sum this place up. I think I was just unlucky with my waitress but I bloody grudged the 10% service charge. Wagyu was pretty busy with the expat crowd. It had been a recommendation on a gluten free HK page I was on and after being ill from previously eating non-gf food and I wanted somewhere safe to eat before a 12hr flight. The food is good — $ 170+10% service charge(HK prices) for 3 courses at lunch from the set menu. The salad I had as a starter was lovely and colourful with beautiful fresh ingredients. I then followed with salmon and potatoes as a main, again good. Portions are decent too. Being gf, I had mixed berries for dessert. Service. A smile wouldn’t have gone amiss. Having to check about gf also seemed to be a big deal. Plus when I ordered a coke, I reckon she deliberately got a diet coke and then stood and stared when I drank it to see what I’d say. I said nothing so she narrowed her eyes and walked away. Getting a second coke was also clearly a hassle for her so when she eventually decided to come back to the table to take my order, a colleague returned with my ‘coke light’. It is a nice venue — bit samey in the whole ‘this is a nice restaurant vibe’. Toilets weird — small alley section behind bar and sinks outside toilets where kegs were piled up so ruined the impression a bit as had to squeeze past staff. Had the service been better, I’d go again or recommend to colleagues. 3* as the food was good and much needed but not the best experience.

I’m not 100% sure, but I believe this business is run by Australians? It’s well run and the food is great, plenty on the menu to chose from. We went for breakfast and were highly impressed by how much it resembled an Aussie breakfast! Friends also mentioned the dinner was great too. Service did let it down slightly however.

I went to Wagyu for brunch with a group of 6 on a Monday– while I believe the wait on the weekends may be a little much, we had no issue being seated this week day. There are many, many great brunch options, I had a difficult time choosing(and ended up with three beverages in front of my plate). The bloody mary & ginger lemon tea were both great, and just what I needed following a weekend at the HK7s. I had the Breakfast Bruschetta & it was absolutely fantastic– the ingredients seemed super fresh and the dish was well balanced, I was pleasantly surprised by the citrus hollandaise. Long story short– fresh, tasty food, good for groups, I’d definitely recommend checking out Wagyu!

Wagyu is a place that is just solid. Everything I’ve had here has been pretty good. It’s not the best food in the world but definitely a cut above the rest. I had their sirloin which was cooked just how I wanted it, and it was served with rocket, mushrooms, tomatoes and potatoes. The set lunch is also served with dessert and coffee /tea. I had blueberry cheesecake a la mode which was delicious, and I loved that it was served with french vanilla ice cream instead of just regular vanilla. I also think that their set lunches aren’t particularly expensive and their service is good. The atmosphere is nice and I love the big windows that overlook Wyndham street. There is also a bar area that opens to the street.

There’s a really big restaurant selection in Central, especially around this area. Every time I walk pass this restaurant, it is always full of people, whether it’s 10am or 2am. To be very honest, I don’t understand what the hype is all about. I mean, yes, it’s very centrally located, convenient and a cool looking place, but in terms of food or drink quality, there are much better selections with similar price point nearby. The food/drinks here is not cheap, though the menu selection large, the food is not exactly outstanding — in fact, the steak is quite expensive! We came here a few times, a couple times for work meetings etc, other times with friends for brunch or dinner. Every time we came, I seem to be astounded by how busy it is. Simply across the street to LKF hotel, there alone are a huge selection of restaurants that are sometimes empty… yet Wagyu is always bustling. The vibe is cool. the interior is nice… but I would say that’s it. Not exactly spectacular. Perhaps after reading some of the other reviews, I should give them another chance and try some of their recommendations. Hope I won’t find it mediocre. To be fair, Wagyu is a great place for a coffee or meeting. You can just sink into the plush chairs and sit for hours without getting fidgety. Hmm. I’d give it a 5 or 6⁄10 at most, considering the amount of competitors around.

There is fair bit of healthy competition on Wyndham street for set lunches come lunch time. Walking down the street between 1pm and 2pm you’ll probably notice that one venue is fuller than the rest. Yes, that’s Wagyu. A popular restaurant by day and a just as popular bar by night. I’ve attempted to enter on many occasions but was dissuaded by the amount of people ahead of me in the line. I only had an hour before I needed to get back to work so waiting for twenty minutes was a big ask. One day I thought, that’s it I’m getting in there this time. I went at 12:40 and managed to have my choice of seating. The lunch menu itself holds hints as to why Waygu is always full. Combine that with a casual hinted with class interior — deep chairs with a chic set up — and you might even put up with a ten minute wait. Then add the quality of it’s food and I’ve come to understand why there are people willing to wait more than ten minutes for a chair. Wagyu has a solid mix of mains that caters to most people out there; salads, chicken, pasta, steak. I went for the flame-grilled sirloin and a small salad as a starter(Just to feel like I’m doing something good to my body for once!). For the price we paid, around $ 170, I was very impressed with what we got. The steak was cooked to order, accompanied with some potatoes and a bit of veg. So impressed was I that I’d consider changing my lunch hour to 12:30 to 1:30… if only that choice was mine to make.

I always have a problem choosing where to dine in Central. Is that just me or most people share the same problem? There are just way too many restaurants in Central!(Not complaining, though) However, there is a restaurant that steals my heart. Wagyu, under Castelo Concept is one of my usual dining spots. It’s nothing too fancy and you can get different types of food, like salad, pizza, pasta and steak, of course. What is not to love? You may find me there once a week, or even more. What make it stand out from the crowd are their quality food, reasonable prices and friendly staffs. I don’t mind going back all the time even there are a lot of other choices in the hood. My top pick is their Cha Cha Char pizza, which is a delicious tomato base margherita pizza topped with a crazy amount of tender Wagyu beef strips, bundy rum glazed onions and cherry tomatoes. I have recommended it to a lot of people and literally every one loves it. It’s simple but features an explosion of scrumptious flavors. I’m already drooling just by mentioning it. Beside, their venue is quite huge when considering it’s located in the bustling area of Central. I think it’s great for both small group dinner and big dinner party. I actually celebrated my birthday here this year and it was amazing, with great food and lovely venue. I genuinely love this place, that’s it.
