Subidoo

Slipped into Subidoo to a near deserted restaurant on Wednesday night looking forward to a hearty meal.
Perhaps the lack of patrons should have given me the hint…
Ordered cheese stuffed bread balls, spicy meat balls and fish tacos for entrée. They were all delish and well executed. The fish taco was awash with coriander and the crumbed fish inside was crunchy and super tasty. Meatballs were lovely. The bread balls stuffed with cheese were chewy and moorish.
Mains was scotch fillet medium rare, beef rendang and Cajun spiced beef ribs. Sadly these were all very average. The scotch was more rare than medium, the rendang was nice but forgettable and the ribs were the strangest collection of Cajun spices I have ever had.
Unfortunately Subidoo really doesn’t know what it wants to be. The menu says it is South American inspired and yet it is more Asian than anything else.
The décor is a clash of London train station public toilet with urban architectural loft apartment. Nothing seems to makes sense.
This place has the potential to be awesome but doesn’t seem to deliver. Sad :(

Inconsistent service every time I went, varying portion sizes, rude staff, stale croutons and I found a hair in my salad.

A massive improvement on the old oriel. This place has a good vibe and is a great addition to Subiaco. With yummy share plates that include buttermilk chicken and fish tacos. They also do juices and coffees in the morning and have a selection of takeaway breakfasts — my only question would be, why would you not do a plated breakfast in Subi which is lacking for options? All in all great experience!

SubiDoo has opened where Oriel used to be in Subiaco. I can’t say I am really a fan of the name, it comes out rather comically when you are trying to explain you are going to Subiaco to SubiDoo. I picked SubiDoo to try out Friday night as I was attending a Fringe show at The Regal Theatre and was looking for somewhere close by.
The renovation here is great, there is plenty of room between tables and the whole area has been opened up with terrace seating as well as heaps of seating options inside.
Service was prompt, and it is worth checking on show nights it they are offering specials in line with The Regal Theatre. There is an extensive foor and drinks menu on offer with lots of different options.
On Friday night they were offering a $ 19.00 Ribs/​Chicken with Salt Roasted Chats special. Both my friend and I elected to try this. Food was delivered quickly — and it was tasty and fresh. I wouldn’t say on this night my choice was a healthy one chosing the Buttermilk Chicken. but it was delicious! And let’s face it you can’t eat salad all the time. The chats were also nice served with salsa verde and a garlic aoili. My friend opted for the Five Spiced Pork Ribs, both meals were very generous servings and the ribs were well seasoned and a little spicy.
There is heaps on the menu and I like the idea of the smaller food options on the menu where you can order just one taco or slider which allows you to try more options. The salads appearing at the table next to us looked great as did the fish tacos and chorizo that made their way past while we were sitting waiting for our food to arrive.
When I got to SubiDoo on Friday night it was quite busy, but when I came out of The Regal Theatre at 9.30pm it was packed, so if you are going for dinner I would recommend to book.

Trying to be a fancy place but have house wines and pub type water bottles for presentation. The cocktails are served in soft drink glasses and the wines are served in poor glassware which really affects the taste of the wine. The most expensive glass of wine is $ 13 but the crap glassware and soapy residue makes it taste cheap. The whole place is reminiscent of the Oriel, only the mildest of changes are clear. Service however is decent.

I feel like my review for this place needs to start off like The Muppets characters, Statler and Waldorf, talking about the show.

Waldorf: Well there were parts of it that weren’t very good though

The food was not the part I didn’t like. Let’s be clear that it was actually pretty good.
The service is where it went downhill.
Waiting and waiting and more waiting. Then there was the seeing the wait staff leave a cocktail and coffee on the service area to be taken to a customer for so long the ice melted (then see bar prep just throw more ice in, watering the drink even more) and the coffee get cold.

Stopped here on a sunday mid morning. Lovely service, took ur order at the table. Have a menu for the morning till 1 with brekky foods and burgers then after 1 more of mains and entrée foods. I enjoyed the eggs benedict with ham. It was lovely. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly for me I like them less runny. I really didn’t need the ham because the eggs, bread, and sauce was filling in itself. Hollandaise sauce was good but on the heavier side. Also had the quesadilla filled with eggs and such. Excellent my daughter loved it. My hubby had the Tunisian braised egg which he said was great and I add a beautiful presentation. Coffee was very nice and a berry smoothly was Delish and thick. They said they use frozen fruit which makes it better and thicker. Terrace eating and indoor eating

Share or odder for yourself, it’s a quality menu. Highlights were the fried chicken, the street corn and the lamb sausages. Great drinks menu to. Sit on the terrace.
