Surprisingly good $ 15 steak deal! Well cooked, good bearnaise sauce. Decent service for a Tuesday.

I really like this bar, its cool and spacious. Nice mix of seating arrangments couches or dining inside or outside alfresco. They also do a fab steak night special, great value. Location is great in central Subiaco. Luv it !

So in summary, we had some great dishes, and some average ones. The concept was proven to be a real success with many of us strangers heading out of the bar and kitchen a little more acquainted, and even organising a group dinner!

When out and about in Subi Llama bar isn’t on my must do list, but at the same time also isn’t on my avoid at all costs list. Its got a kinda of cool vibe with a decent indoor and outdoor space, and there is a fair bit of room at the bar both inside and out so you wont be waiting too long. They have stupid dress standards I must say as there was a time my friends and I were turned away for not having dress shoes even though we were much more fashionably dressed than all those who had gone before. Not because we were looking great but cos they looked crook. They tunes can swing between really terrible new garbage, or some sweet old school tunes. All in all its just pretty average, not bad for a meeting place if there’s a big group but not in my regular rotation.

Yes and no. I’ve had some pretty enjoyable times at Llama bar, most of which have seen me spend my hours chatting up a storm in the outdoor area. There’s a bar, there’s seating and it’s upbeat and equipped for mingling. On the contrary, it’s inside I have trouble warming up to. The music can get a bit irritating(top 40 repeats) and the dance floor is pretty haphazard. I mean, there’s not really a dance floor per se, the tables in the space between the bar and the DJ are cleared after a certain hour and this becomes a sort of incidental boogie space. It’s not an ideal d-floor situation but if you’re sozzled enough, you probably wouldn’t notice you’re dancing in a thoroughfare. I must add that the Llama bar staff are a good bunch and this is one of the few nightclub/bars like this where you can get an alright cocktail.

The Llama Bar styles itself as a classy joint, with strict dress standards in the evening. However, it is a rather forgettable joint — there is the usual intimate lighting, the lounges around circular tables, but it has the feel of «been there, done that». There is also a rigid vibe, where it feels like you are being immediately judged upon stepping through the threshold. Occasionally there are live acts playing to a disinterested audience. The live acts are usually duos playing pleasant if — again — forgettable covers of popular soft-pop songs. The Llama Bar seems to be an okay place as a meeting point and for a few drinks, but there are better places in the vicinity for a good time.

This place has a strong retro factor for me, not only because I was invited here religiously in the mid-Noughties for PR function after PR function, and so it holds a lot of memories, but because its soundtrack today is very much old-skool, possibly a bit too heavy on the hip-hop frnot at times. It’s not a bad little joint to kick on at after dining in Subiaco and the attitude of the crowd has loosened up majorly since its halcyon days, however I wouldn’t pick this place if I was wanting to impress interstate guests while taking them out to experience Perth nightlife.

The best word I can think of to describe Llama Bar is average. There’s nothing wrong with it, there’s just nothing special about it either. The music is pretty boring and easily forgettable(judging by the fact that I can’t really remember what music they were playing when I went). It’s fine if you just want a drink and somewhere to dance, but I can’t imagine having a really amazing night there. It’s basically just a dark room with a bar and a dancefloor and some music — which in essence is what a club is, I guess, but it could at least have something to make it stand out. A giant golden llama statue in the middle of the dancefloor maybe?

Llama Bar is a pretty good place to go on a Friday night. The music is great, a lot of cheesy chart pop and old school hip hop — so if you’re in the mood for a bit of stupid dancing then definitely check this place out. The only drawback is that the dancefloor is a bit sweaty and has a few creepy guys lurking in the corners, and if you try to dance near the bar you will get annoyed looks from the poser types up there trying to look cool, but if you’re in your zone it’s easy to ignore those no-fun idiots! There’s also a really nice smoking area out the back. I’m not a smoker but if I was I would come to Llama Bar for the smoking area alone!
