I came here for something different from similar nearby Japanese takeaways. They are quick, cheep and most food is reasonable. However, the fish teriyaki is bland and mushy as if made from frozen fish, despite their website using the word«fresh» and claiming«All ingredients used are of a high quality». If they are using«high quality» ingredients, I am curious whether lower quality fish teriyaki would have stronger flavour. Sushi is not freshly made but from the fridge. They do not have sashimi on the menu. Bentos do not include Miso. If I return, which I might because they are open later than similar places nearby, I need to lower my expectations and remind myself not to have any«fresh» fish.

I *only* give four stars simply because I’ve had better but it costs a lot more. Service is quick and polite, friendly. They recently added chicken katsu curry and it’s always fresh and tasty. Perfect quick lunch pickup. Be warned though — it’s Cash Only!

Nippon Fare is a small japanese café off Hay St, just past Rokeby Rd. There is only a few small tables, so it encourages you to get takeaway. At lunchtime this place is full of tradies, football players and the workers from the surrounding area. This isn’t the best japanese food in town. The sushi looks ok and sells well, but I haven’t tried it myself. The teriyaki chicken is not bad, quick and very cheap.

Nippon fare is a nice little Japanese joint that get’s it’s fair share of customers and remains open later than most of the Japanese places around so it is good for the convenience factor. The teriyaki chicken is done differently there is no sauce on the rice and they give you pickles with it. I love my teriyaki chicken but I wouldn’t suggest this takeaway restaurant for this meal it is nice but not stand out fantastic. The sushi that I have had here has been on the average side as well, but quite cheap. What I would suggest is their curries –delicious!

Teriyaki chicken from Nippon Fare used to be a lunch staple for my colleagues and I while working in Subiaco. It was cheap and tasty, only six bucks for a medium meal I think. Sometimes the chicken was a little questionable, but those flavours… man. It’s a cute little take-away Japanese store with a range of sushis and prepackaged salads(potato and seaweed are both wins here). Service is quick and cheerful. Obviously not the best Japanese around, but for a lunch meal it’s damn alright.
