The original plan to appease my sweet tooth was to make a carrot cake. But then I got lazy. So instead, I ran down to this little place on Glebe Point Rd. It’s tiny, furnished with a few chairs and tables. The window display had several pastries, but I wanted something a bit more substantial. I was impressed that they had about a dozen different types of pies and cakes ready to take home. There was custard pie, a sweet date cake, and a lemon cheesecake, among the others available. Most of them were about $ 3 for one average sized slice. The woman at the counter said that all of them were homemade. Well, this made me even more indecisive. Ultimately, I got a slice of pecan pie and a cornflake cookie. The cookie was great: crunchy and not overly sweet. The pecan pie was average. The crust wasn’t as crumbly as I would have wanted, perhaps a bit soggy. The filling was okay, but a bit too sweet and didn’t have enough of that rustic flavor typical of a pecan pie. Considering the price, it does make for an affordable dessert run. I believe they also serve sandwiches and other snacks.
