It wouldn’t take much for me to be a local here, if I lived anywhere close by. I loved the relaxed atmosphere and the idea of having open bottles. You can choose if you time it right. The small plates were excellent and they counted as a light dinner for us. A classical guitarist was playing one evening when we walked by.

Cosy and relaxed. Great wines and helpful staff. Menu is a bit limited but quality was good as was the value.

Has great potential! Bar staff are clued in on a good drop… The only 2 things that fails this place are the lighting — yes lighting! It’s so bright it felt like walking into a grocery store — definitely in need of some sexy dark lighting to match the décor! And a few whiskeys to choose from would definitely mix a few interesting people in with what looks like the cast from«First Wives Club»

Glebe isn’t my local, and I probably would have never know about this place if a friend hadn’t suggested drinks here. Four of us got a table on a Friday after work. We thought we might stay for a couple drinks and ordered some wine by the glass. I had a Pinot Noir recommend by the barman. At some stage I remember saying«WHY are we doing ordering this wine by this glass?» and coming back with a bottle of Rosé. Good times ensued. The share plates were tasty and fun to share(as share plates should be). I recommend starting with drinks here and then moving down the road to another small bar in Glebe to continue your night.

First time at Timbah this week. A little difficult to find around the back of a wine shop in Glebe, but lovely ambience. They have a unique way of serving wine by the glass, having four white and four red open at all times which you can choose from, or if they finish one off, you can choose the next white/red. It limits wastage which I really like. You can always order a bottle to yourself/table. The wine is a little pricey, ranging from $ 10 – 12 when I was there, and the food is tasty, but again, a little pricey and small in the portion size — though this is probably a good thing as its a wine bar, not a restaurant. We’ll go back, its the best wine bar we’ve been to in Glebe.

Timbah can’t be seen from Glebe Point Rd. A giant sign is painted on The Little Bottle Shop of Glebe at the corner of the street, directing you to turn right on Forsyth. The bar will be on your left, practically concealed in the whitewash of its exterior, which also appears pimpled(not sure what this type of textured façade would be named). The inside is designed in a minimalistic approach, with wooden accents and zigzag rope partitions. I always get overwhelmed by extensive wine lists, and Timbah’s is no exception. Deciding to order by the glass, I asked our waitress to suggest a nice Red. This prompted her to explain that the first six people get to decide which bottles of wine to open, and these six will be served by the glass. I found that this heightens the intimacy of the bar, for better or for worse. Whether you like it or not, you’re drinking a wine that was chosen by a stranger. I’ve read this described as «democracy in a bottle.» I could tell that many of the people in the bar were regulars, most of them locals to the area. It was nice to see, especially having heard from many that Timbah’s quality has gone down since it opened several months ago. For me, it still seems like a decent wine bar.
