Around the corner from my apartment is the One Stop Shop Supermarket. Although the name is entirely befitting, they do have most grocery essentials and refrigerator staples. I come here several times a week to pick up bus passes, aluminum foil, apples, or anything else I need at the spur of the moment. One does pay a price from convenience; it is noticeably more expensive than a larger supermarket. But it is relatively organized and well stocked for a store of this size. In fact, I ran down this morning to pick up some eggs and appreciated the option to buy either caged or free-range. Despite the $ 2 difference, I felt bad for those caged hens popping out eggs like machines and picked up the free-range ones instead. Imagining those chickens happy roaming about the fields helped make my breakfast more enjoyable. Then I realized I’m actually eating those poor chickens’ babies. With an array of flowers and herbs lining its exterior, One Stop Shop is a good store to have a one’s corner.
