We’d walked from Ultimo looking for breakfast and had passed a few other cafes on the way(too weird, too stark, wrong vibe), so by the time we found Cibo we were ready to eat. It was a little bit of love at first sight. A non-threatening local loitering in the doorway stood aside to let us in, there was a warm welcome from staff, we collected the morning papers from the counter(strangely exciting) and headed for the table in the corner with the comfy chairs. The waitress was pleasant, quick and attentive — the extra tea bag was no problem at all and she spotted the salt shaker was empty before I could mention it. The food was great — no really, it was. Go here.

Selected at random as it was the least hectic café on Glebe Point Road. An odd selection of wandering backpackers and locals. The food was tasty, reasonably priced, and came out quickly. Looks like I lucked out.

It’s the morning after a party and all I need is something hearty to fill my belly and make the uncomfortable feeling of a night of wine, beer and spirits a thing of the past. Walking up Glebe Point Road, we’re on the lookout for something special, we have requirements,(Perhaps it’s only I that have the requirements, but am selfishly imposing those requirements on my breakfast partner.) I’m looking for somewhere quiet, somewhere where you wouldn’t use the term a ‘hustly-bustly café’ in a log-line about it. Somewhere not washed out with fluorescent lighting and the final requirement, somewhere with an outdoor area. It’s a beautiful sunny day, who wants to be inside? We finally come across Cibo which fills the requirements; it’s quiet, the lighting is natural and there are seats available alfresco. Yes there is a baby at the café, but he’s too busy getting hot chocolate all over himself to be crying and screaming and carrying on, so I let this slide. I order the Eggs Benedict with Salmon. When it arrives I make a mental note that it’s not as grandiose as some Salmon Benedict’s I’ve had in the past, but I enjoy it all the same. The egg is cooked well and the salmon is delicious, albeit isn’t the massive hangover banishing breakfast I had hoped for, but after a short digestive walk, I feel much more human.
