Pretty nice ambiance. Not the usual end of Glebe that I frequent so it was quite nice to stumble on this place. The staff impress with how much they juggle. The coffee is nice as is the food. The eggs on offer, especially the Benny, are scrumptious though the salads need a little more love.

A nice little café in a gorgeous part of Glebe. I hear the coffee is amazing(I don’t drink it myself but my friend prefers to buy her beans from here). The specials board had a great list to choose from and the beef burger was probably one of the best I’ve had. A man outside was smoking at the table next to us which was really unpleasant and annoyed us. We moved inside to be away from the smoke and none of the staff ever told him to stop smoking despite the fact there was a sign right hear him that said no smoking.

The menu was rather limited and the tea was small, but my bacon and egg roll with mushrooms was filling, delightfully tasty and very reasonably priced.

Seriously cool café on Glebe Point Rd, the décor is a mix of industrial and art deco — yes I know, go figure, but it works. Glebe is a suburb awash with good coffee but Madame Frou Frou has the best coffee in Glebe in my humble opinion. Strong, hot coffee, beans from Double Roasters. Staff are friendly, you may have to wait for a table on Sat or Sun mornings.

This review is for the ambiance and coffee only, since we didn’t eat anything, partially since we wanted a muffin/pastry/cake of some kind to go with our coffees and there were none to be had. I’ll give it to the Frou: their café is super cute, as the reviews describe. The staff was friendly enough and the prices seemed pretty reasonable for the few menu items they had. But they were sold out completely of pastries, and the coffees just weren’t good. Overly bitter, which was a shame since they had pretty frilly coffee art and just the right amount of milk froth. No excuse for a bad coffee on GPR. Will not be back.

Finally got a chance to check this place out after having walked past it every day for a month. It’s got a great look to it, sort of a mash of hispter cool and 1920’s art deco. Anyway, we swung in for a late breakfast on a Saturday, and grabbed a table inside because all of the outside perches were full. The vibe and the décor in here are perfect for a lazy Saturday, although if I were hungover, it might have been a little bright to my liking. The seats against the wall were reclaimed theater style chairs, which were super comfortable. So much so that I broke my usual rule of not sitting on the same side as the wife, and plopped down next to her. Anyway, we ordered up a couple of coffees which were done just right, a flat white for me and a long black for Gwen. Nothing crazy, but well done. The menu is sparse, but has something for everyone, and I prefer a tight menu where you know they’re confident in the items they serve up. I had the smoked salmon something-or-other, which was beautiful. Lot’s of delicious smoked salmon over sturdy toast with some kind of crème-fraiche type topping. It was recommended by the waitress, and it was just what I needed, not too heavy, but really filling. The wife had the mushroom salad and added some chicken to it, she said it was A-ok, so we were both stuffed. I also threw in a croissant because they were calling my name from across the restaurant through the glass case. Toasted up nicely, it was probably more than I needed, but who cares. All in all, friendly place that’s laid back, but takes their food and drinks seriously, a winner just up the road from home.

Great breakfasts, great coffee and great prices! Veggie breakfast special was piles of mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, avocado, haloumi and amazing sourdough($ 13). So good. As was the Eggs Benedict special($ 13) with smoked salmon and spinach. Lots of sweet baked treats in the counter display… is breakfast dessert a thing? It should be. Staff were friendly and service was quick — especially amazing considering we were there on a HOT morning and there was no air-con. It would have been about 35 degrees inside(no empty tables left for us out the front) and the wait staff had iced water in front of us as soon as we sat down. Smart.

We popped in this morning for breakfast and found some good coffee and relatively good service. The owner was in, you can always tell the owner, the happiest person in there, and he was great with a big smile and happy demeanour. Breakfasts were satisfactory and filling, with the standard offerings and a few oddballs(cous cous soaked in pomegranate — must try this in future). They have the seating from an old cinema — I suspect it’s the old seating from the Valhalla down the road when it was operating. They had a few other props from the cinema area, including a mannequin holding the disposable coffee cups. It’s a small place with limited seating, but it’s worth re-visiting. Cash only!

Madame Frou Frou’s cute café sign beckons us in from Glebe Pt. Road on a late Sunday morning and we find an empty table inside. M. Frou Frou’s funky old school diner style with vintage cinema seats along the wall add to the homey feel and we gladly take a look at the menus. The shrine to St. Ali’s coffee on the wall inside Madame Frou Frou says it all — a focus on simple but pure and good products to make a lovely breakfast or lunch. The breakfast menu includes the usual suspects — poached eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, haloumi and labne for those that love variety in their Greek cheeses. A sharp intake of breath as I read the top of the menu BLACKSTAR pastries also available. Oh my god I can actually be served something from Black Star on a Sunday without waiting outside like a chump in Newtown for 20 minutes. Yay! I’ve now found the perfect reasons to return — St. Ali’s brew and a slab of Black Star brownie. Back to brekky –I order the Mamma’s Beans — broad beans stewed in tomato, poached egg, labne, sourdough — $ 13 Jacqui orders the Smoked salmon, avocado, labne on linseed toast with olive oil and lime juice — $ 9 We both order soy cappuccinos. .sorry did I mention awesome St. Ali’s single origin beans? We order and pay at the counter(Cash only) — our coffees come out promptly and our breakfasts about 10 – 15 later so not bad for a Sunday. Everything is delicious and fresh, my poached egg could have been poached less but all yummy and simple. The service was minimalist but fast and prompt and the Black Star pastries tantalised me at the counter as my friend picked up another soy cap to go. Great addition to the Glebe Point Road offerings — next time we’ll try the paninis as you can’t go wrong with Sonoma bread. Or maybe the Black Star treats or pies.

I’ve been in for a coffee fag and read of my book a couple of times, always received good coffee and decent service. One of these days I’ll pop in for lunch!

I’m sure I’m not the only one who flocks to a new restaurant as soon as it opens. There’s nothing better than enjoying your first meal without any preconceived notions from having read reviews or heard others’ opinions on the place. Madame Frou Frou is the newest café on Glebe Point Road. I had been tracking its progress since it finished construction, wondering when or if I’d be among the first to try it out. Peering inside the window, I could see retro decoration with vintage posters, cool furniture, and, most noticeably, a giant mannequin floating from the ceiling. When I went for the first time, I had to ask what the name was, since there’s just a sign that says ‘CAFÉ’ hung out front. Accompanied by a couple of friends, we sat outside and browsed the menu, which had breakfast and lunch selections. Breakfast had things like baked eggs, French toast, and muesli, whereas lunch had paninis, quiches, and burgers. Though this place literally just opened, there are a couple of rough edges in my experience. They didn’t have any more beans(my first choice) so I got a prosciutto Panini. They ran out of oranges for fresh juice, so our waitress had to go pick up some more, twice. Also, it took around 25 minutes to get our food. While the prices were okay(perhaps pricier than the food deserves), the portions of the food were large. Except for my friend’s mini-quiche and handful-of-arugula salad. Most of the staff is very friendly, though our waitress had a bit of an attitude. I understand that this place is just getting on its feet, but there was still much to be desired from my experience.
