**NOTSAFEFORSTRICTVEGETARIANS/VEGANS* 2 weeks ago I would have given them 5 stars, but a week ago I saw one of the workers push cabbage into the meat in his bowl with the cabbage tongs. I did love the fresh veggie option — tasty, healthy and gluten free. but when the vegetable tongs are touching meat it is no longer an option for me. I complained by email a week ago and no one bothered to respond, or even acknowledge my email. I *might* try a different location but I have been pretty put off. All they need to do is put the veggie ingredients on top of meat without pressing it in(of if they want to press it into meat, use a separate spoon or fork). Not impressed. Another email sent 10÷10÷15 so we’ll see if anyone actually responds this time.

On days when I need a quick veggie hit, I make a beeline to a Spudbar. My pick? The fresh veggie on sweet potato. Load it up with garlic chips and tobasco and you have a solid, healthy and tasty meal right there for under $ 10. KAPOW! I like that even though these guys are part of a small chain they still make the store feel local in the music they choose and the fitout. The Brunswick Street store is compact but you can generally always find a seat to eat at. Or, do as I do regularly and grab your spud to go and eat it at home or nearby Edinburgh gardens.

The fully loaded sweet potato is a new concept to me, but I like it, I like it a lot. This place is reminiscent of a sandwich or salad bar but instead of the usual blah culprits, they incorporate a variety of tasty fresh ingredients to craft a bowl full of «yum». I was completely fulfilled by the lentil chickpea with avocado-loaded sweet potato(or yam? I still am unsure of the difference haha but it was orange!) Spudbar is definitely a great lunch spot, with a casual, value for your money-feel which is totally my jam. Plus holy hotties who craft the meals, friendly babely dudes! The location on trendy bustling Brunswick street attracts an eclectic mix in a crowd, so there is plenty of entertainment walking by outside as you nosh down your tater. Awesome way to re-fuel up for more shopping in the funky Fitzroy hood.

I went to Spud Bar for the first time despite living really close by for ages now. The reason for not going in prior was probably down to thinking I can make a pretty good jacket potato myself. That might well be the case but nevertheless experiencing Spud Bar for the first time was a very good experience. It has a really good environment and an array of options for a jacket spud at around the $ 10 mark. I went for the Bolognese and was really impressed with the amount of topping you got(you can add a lot of fresh veggies to your spud on top of the topping). It was good and hearty and at $ 10 quite a snip. This will be a place that I now go to fairly often as a great lunch time snack or an evening light meal. If you haven’t checked it out for similar reasons to myself, I suggest you do.

With restaurants serving potatoes as their main ingredient seemingly popular around Melbourne, this little hole in the wall is busy enough to prove the trend. The interior of Spudbar on Brunswick St has a colour combination that speaks healthy — someone’s done their home work. This open door and window gives a lot of light and allows a comfortable vibe once inside. The displays of different toppings are colourful and ooze freshness. The menu displays at least a dozen different combinations or if you’re feeling creative you can think up your own. There is also an option to have sweet potato. I recently tried the chicken and avocado spud and was thoroughly disappointed. The staff dish out very measured potions of each topping like they are scared to over indulge the customer — this makes the place feel like it is a part of a chain store, which I recently found out it is.
