The good: Food is decent enough. Beef takaki was cooked perfectly, sushi was good, although a bit limited to kingfish, scampi, salmon. The tempura was also good. The saki was served cold at a good temperature, we had Dassai 50 and an Australian made sparkling sake which was actually pretty decent. The bad: Service is atrocious. The waitresses are not trained and keep their heads down oblivious to the many customers trying to get attention. The lighting is bright, so not intimate in any way. In fact this is a decent, apart from the service, neighbourhood joint. So 3 stars only. May go back, but as winter approaches I expect we will head to our old haunts in Surry Hills, where service is always excellent, better variety and prices are similar.

Big disappointment. We were really hoping this restaurant would turn out to be a good local Japanese so we don’t have to travel to Surry hills or cbd for Japanese food. The food is not bad. If I rate food alone, I would have given 4 stars, sushi are fresh and yummy, yakitori is cooked perfectly and seasoned nicely. Service, on the other hand, is shockingly bad. Upon arriving, there were another couple already waiting, they looked agitated, appeared to have waited long. There were a few waitresses around, they seem really just focusing on their table cleaning duty and ignoring the guests waiting by the door getting anxious.(We were standing there for over 10 minutes, no staff even made eye contact with us. And a couple behind us got fed up and just left) Waitresses are nice, but extremely inattentive, it’s almost impossible to get attention from any of the staff who walk right next to your table or bring dishes to your next table. Staff are poorly trained, the service really ruined the whole dinner, we almost left the restaurant hungry but decided to wait patiently so we could have a fair judgement overall. I think this could be a good lunch place where you get a decent lunch box or ramen. But if you want a date night with a nice ambiance, maybe not.

I agree with the reviewers before me. The food was amazing. Can’t believe I haven’t came across this place before!(It may have to do with it hidden behind trees. Not exactly visible from Pyrmont bridge road…) Anyhow, I’m glad I found it because it’s now my fav Asian restaurant around camperdown. We tried the set combo dish which comes with two choices of main. It was of good portion for one person and came with rice and miso soup too! I’d recommend trying the sashimi rice(hiya-something. Fresh sashimi layered on top of sushi rice), the tempura cheese(this was the first time I encountered this! Tempura battered Camembert cheese dipped in their special sauce), and maybe order the unagi don(eel rice) instead of plain rice because of the yummy sauce! We’ve only tried a few dishes but we’re already pretty impressed with what we tasted. I wish they had a better dessert menu tho. Ice creams just ain’t enough after such a hearty meal!

Great sushi, great options, delicious salads, and absolutely cosmic eggplant dish. The sake we ordered was perfect, the service relaxed and unobtrusive. The atmosphere was everything it should be.

My favourite Japanese in Sydney — fantastic Japanese sushi chef and incredibly fresh sashimi. Everything is beautifully prepared and presented. The chef’s choice sashimi is always excellent, but I come here a lot and have never ordered a bad dish! The weekend lunch special($ 15.50 for a main, salad, miso and agadashi tofu) is spectacularly good value! Also licensed(good range of sake) and BYO!
