History

Established in 1997.

Mike Spencer of Spencer Investigations combined with former Army Ranger Jeremy Elrod to form Spencer Elrod Services, Inc. The two have unique backgrounds, in Special Forces, investigative journalism, private investigations and security for businesses and individuals.

The company has local roots as the partners have been in Alameda and Contra Costa counties for more than 20 years. It’s their pride in their jobs and local knowledge that make the company high performers.

We are very selective about the cases we take and prefer to work through attorneys. We will be honest with you about whether we can help. If we can’t, we will give advice and other resources.

Mike earned a bachelor’s degree from Franklin and Marshall College and holds a master’s degree in journalism from UC-​Berkeley. Before starting his investigations career in 1994 he had been a general assignment and police reporter at the Contra Costa Times and at daily papers in Virginia and Florida.

He has established himself as a leader in private investigations in California. He has been lead investigator on multi-​million dollar civil cases and major criminal defense cases. Readers of The Recorder legal newspaper in San Francisco five times voted him Best Private Investigator/​Skip Tracer.

Mr. Spencer has also managed and conducted numerous surveillance cases. He associates with some of the best investigators in the state to produce excellent results.
