Broadway Muffler Service

It’s tough to find trust worthy mechanics and I know this from years of traveling on the road! After checking Unilocal for the places with the best reviews I decided to go here. The reviews did not steer me wrong! Friendly, personable, time efficient, and competitive prices compared to other places I called. Recommended from a fellow Earth explorer!

Came by with a simple question and a simple fix and he didn’t even charge me… will go back not because he didn’t charge me but because I know he’ll be honest when I NEED him to.

The place to go! I came to Broadway in Walnut Creek because of Unilocal reviews and I’m adding my own. I took my car in with a dangling broken (factory original) muffler. Their price was right and honest, the job well done. Two years later, a factory weld on the replacement muffler was loosening. I came in, the quickly put it on the lift and fixed it. No hassle, no pain. I haven’t used many other muffler shops in the area, but this one I can vouch for. It’s not about no problems, it’s about how you deal with them.

I recommend Broadway Mufflers to anyone in need of muffler repairs, without reservation. They were honest, fast, communicative, and effective at a reasonable cost. Big Bob and John were both very cool in person and over the phone. Extra points for talking to me like a grown up even though I’m a woman. Don’t go anywhere else.

I went in there, and being female, you’re always a bit leary! Anyway, I wanted my exhaust changed out on my car, John took care of it. I received a very fair price, it was done in a timely manner and I’m extremely happy!

Just had the muffler on our truck fixed. Straight, fast service. Honest. The mechanic is the owner too. He saw that it was a simple fix and did just that rather than jerk me around and try to sell me more. Really appreciate that. Will always go here from now on for any muffler needs. Thank you!

John, the owner/​operator is a straight shooter, no BS kind of guy, and I appreciate that! He talked me out of cutting out the rear set of bubble mufflers on my SRT8 Challenger and he replaced them with a Flowmaster set. So happy I took his advice, the new pipes sound awesome! John has been servicing my cars and commercial trucks for years. Gets the job done right and right on budget. I usually need it done yesterday and he can get these commercial rigs up and going sometimes in the same day.

I was recommended by Frank and Paul’s auto to bring my car in to Broadway Muffler for a broken bracket on my exhaust line. John had me come in just a few hours after contacting him and welded the piece back on, free of charge. He was highly personable, professional and trustworthy. He gave me some tips about the car I hadn’t known about. I will definitely come back for any future muffler work and am extremely satisfied. It was really so nice and refreshing to work with someone so straight forward and honest.

The best place in the bay area for mufflers and catalytic converters, Bob has owned this business since the 60’s and john who is taking over after 20 something years are both Honest, Ethical, and reasonably priced. Your wasting you time going any where else. My father had his repairs done there. Well Worth your time to have them look at your problem.

I am SO happy I found Broadway Muffler — the good people at Lawrence Volvo up the street recommended them when my 240 needed a new catalytic converter. I called on a Friday and got an appointment for the following Monday. Bob and John are the nicest, friendliest people in the world. They were ready for me, did the installation in about 20 minutes, and I was soon on my way. Easy as pie.

Just went there to have them check out my MGB exhaust. When i went to pick up they said all was fine and would not accept any money. I will defiantly recommend to my friends when they need muffler service.

This is THE place to go to get your muffler problems fixed. I checked Unilocal out for some nearby muffler shops and this was the first on the list. After reading the reviews about how great John was and the awesome service he provides I got up immediately and checked this place out. John was really polite and got straight down to business. He put my car on the lift in 5 minutes, showed me what was wrong, quoted me an AWESOME price for the work and told me he could have it done within the hour. Took him 30 minutes to finish the car before mine and had my car going in no time. I came back to the shop shortly and I was ready to go. I’ll send all of my friends to this shop! Thanks again John!

Good and bad experience (**then good again; see below**). I was passing through town and had the unfortunate incident of someone cutting the catalytic converter off my minivan. I called around, and Big Bob said they could do the repair and get me back on the road the same day.
Service was speedy, and Bob was friendly. The repair was done within a few hours, including sourcing the parts (aftermarket generic weld-​on catalytic converters).
When I later got the car up on a lift to inspect the work, it was poorly done. The welds were sloppy, and there was a significant exhaust leak. The exhaust O2 sensor had been replaced, but the cord was left to dangle and was almost touching the ground. I fixed this with a zip tie and one minute’s work, but it shouldn’t have been my responsibility. Only one of the mounting points was used to reattach the replacement units, when the original system was attached at 2 points. The one mounting point used was metal-​to-​metal, when there should have been a rubber isolation mount (vibration kills catalytic converters). I took the car to another exhaust shop in Oregon. They quoted me $ 550 – 600 for a job that I was charged $ 960 for.

John, the owner of the shop read the above review and contacted me to remedy the situation. I left the car in his care, and he redid the entire job after a sincere apology.
The welds were clean without leaks. Everything looked straight. The O2 sensor was mounted at a better angle so as to avoid a sharp bend in the wire. The system was suspended from the original 2 mounting points, complete with rubber isolation bushings. In short, the job was done well.
We discussed the cost discrepancy between what I was quoted in Oregon and what I was charged — he explained that this is because there are «49 state» catalytic converters, and «California» catalytic converters which are more expensive due to stricter emissions standards. I did have the car smog checked recently in California at another exhaust shop. They said they would have done the job for less, but wouldn’t quote me a price.
Ultimately, I’m happy with the work that was done, but can’t help but be annoyed by the process. The cost was probably fairly reasonable given the location where the repair was done. Reading through other reviews, I seem to be the only person to have this sort of experience.

I’ve been needing to weld some exhaust components that had been clamped on during an install a few weeks earlier at a local Borla dealer. After a Unilocal search I decided to give Broadway Mufflers a try, and brought my car in this morning.
As soon as my car was on the lift John noticed the pipes didn’t have enough clearance against my suspension and subframe and adjusted the piping accordingly, then he tightened and welded the clamped pieces of the exhaust together, and got it all done in less than the twenty minutes.
When I turned my car on I immediately noticed that the exhaust was reasonating better, and when I got on the revs on my drive to work it sounded more crisp/​clean, so I’m pretty sure John tightened up a leak from the initial setup, which is a plus.
The best part was the price — I paid $ 40 — I consider that to be reasonable for the work done. I’ll be coming back in the future.

John was great! I was having some issues with my current mechanic and needing to get my catalytic converter replaced and John helped me out wonderfully. I called Broadway Muffler and asked how much the part would be plus labor for my van. He gave me a quote and told me it would take a half day. He said just to call him and let him know I was coming so he could have the part already for me.
We went to drop our van off, and apparently we have two catalytic converts. Because our other mechanic told us we could just drive our van until we had the money to get it fixed, we actually ended up ruining the other converter as well. John told us up front that it would be smarter to replace both because the other was going to fail soon anyway. He gave us the best price he could, because he knew that we were on a budget, and we were out the door.
Overall, a great place to get your car worked on!

I took my 2006 Armada in with an exhaust manifold leak. I was prepared for the worst and ready to shell out $ 100’s to get it fixed. The guy that owns Broadway took one look and listen to it and said take your Armada to Dirito Bros. Dealership and have them take a look at it. «It should be covered under warranty» Right he was! Thank you so much for not taking advantage of me. I will be back next time I need advice or muffler work.

Very good experience. I called Broadway Muffler and was quoted $ 150 over the phone. I went in to have a new muffler installed and it turns out the part was not in stock and needed to be ordered.
The next morning John and «Big Bob» did the repair in 30 minutes and $ 10 less than originally quoted. John we extremely friendly and knowledgable. Highly recommended! I will return for any future muffler repairs.

Having head aches while driving — Check!
Weird Smell of gas and exhaust in the car while sitting in traffic — Check!
My car sounds like its popping pop corn — Check!
I have and exhaust leak People! My boss and I were sitting in traffic one day and she says, «Ivy haven’t you been complaining of having head aches every day?» Yeah, I have been. «Well, your car is leaking exhaust into the passenger compartment. You need to go get this car fixed.»
I took it as a good sign because I can say now that I have been just so busy at work that I haven’t been able to go get the muffler fixed on my company car. Bad sign that its making me sick.
I have a rule about place’s I take my vehicles to get fixed, whether my personal vehicle or my company vehicle. The shop has got to be clean. Some people may say what does that mean its a dirty repair shop. NOOOOO! They must have a very clean work area to meet my standards. This place does. I wanted to take pictures but I didn’t want them to think I was weird.
John the owner, went out of his way to make sure my car was done that same day because there was a weird part that they may not have been able to get. He hustled and got it for me because I only have this one car to drive and wouldn’t have anything or anyway to even get the car on Monday.
Great customer service, fast and efficient. I didn’t care about the price because I needed to get the muffler fixed no matter what.
