S David Buck, DDS

Just had all the work Dr Buck did removed. The dentist I went to after I had work by Dr Buck recommended I do it a few years ago, but I waited until I moved to a different city and was told by my new dentist here that the work was awful and, as turned out to be true, rotting a tooth. I felt I needed to share this.

After only 1 night my wife is ecstatic with my lack of snoring. I was referred to Dr Buck by a sleep specialist after it was determined I suffered from sleep apnea. The process of making my device was extremely thorough and downright relaxing. The staff is wonderful and I will refer all of my snoring friends. I was really hoping to avoid the use of a CPAP so I couldnt be happier with the results.

David Buck is really nice. They did a good job replacing my amalgams back in 2000 or so. I’ve been going there for 14 years, and had to leave because they stopped accepting Delta Dental– the cost of cleanings and exams became prohibitive, let alone fillings (over $ 200 out of pocket!). The problem is, though, that 1) there was a constant revolving door of hygienists in the 14 years I was a patient. 2) they are constantly using new gadgets. I appreciate technology, but sometimes you just want things to be familiar and predictable, not something new every time. 3) They do various procedures without making it clear it’s going to cost more. «Let me do a cancer screening with this blue light» Boom– that costs a lot; who knew? Etc.

After seeing another TMJ specialist and an oral surgeon, I unfortunately cannot recommend Dr. Buck. He is very personable, but his treatment options are very expensive and after looking at his resume and meeting with him, I’m not sure if he’s as experienced as some of the other TMJ specialists out there. Nice office staff, though.

UPDATE 2÷1÷14
The newer dental hygienist Han is detail-​oriented and explained that plaque needs to be taken off slowly in layers to avoid damaging (scraping) the shiny enamel layer underneath. This had not been explained to me previously in years of preventative dental visits at many different offices.
It took time but she went the distance and my teeth felt slickery and new again. I have had cleanings at other places, where my teeth felt oddly rough after they had finished cleaning them. I am relieved to learn it is the quality of technique and not that my teeth have become permanently rough.
My only wish for improvement would be that Dr. Buck would be better able to explain certain elective optimization procedures in more understandable way and respond more directly to specific patient concerns or questions. (unfortunately it comes off a bit like a sales pitch, with not enough addressing of a specific concern.) Did you know they have a laser that can clean and cauterize receding gums due to periodontal disease and while not a guaranteed result, often times gums grow back due to heat sear from laser. I don’t have periodontal disease so I don’t exactly qualify, but I do need a magical way to get my gums back after my unfortunate over-​brushing with a sonicare.
UPDATE 7÷25÷13 Moving to 4.75 stars. I am a bit flummoxed at what to write. I will update, when I can. I am overwhelmed by the care and consideration of Dr. Buck. He really is a positive individual. And he has devoted his career to understanding more complex (yet more gentle & natural) ways to fix dental problems. I feel like Dr. Buck’s office really does care about patients and their experience. I still have two niggling concerns which keeps my rating from a pure five, but I will address these to Dr. Bucks office directly and I think it may pertain to my unique situation which may not impact a new patient.
UPDATE 11÷15÷12 — my review below came with a two star rating.
I’ve updated my rating to 4 stars because Dr. Buck contacted me personally and told me that he has investigated my complaint and found there to be a serious problem. He let go the cause of the problem and has claimed to have hired a new Dental Hygienist. I have yet to go back to experience the improvement. I will provide a better update then.
I am updating the rating based on Dr. Buck’s honestly and ability to use patient feedback constructively to improve his business and patient experience.

The dental hygienist was absolutely terrible. I had to walk out before my treatment, she acted totally inappropriate. She was abrasive rude and yelled after me. The entire time she said inappropriate things and was disrespectful. FYI She had medium brown long hair. Even though I used to enjoy my visits here I can no longer vouch for this place as I had such a negative experience.

Dr. Buck and his staff are awesome and so friendly! I’ve been coming here for about a year now. I HATE going to the dentist (not sure many people love it), but coming here makes it less daunting. I love the waiting area. It is so cute. There’s drinks (coffee, tea, water, biscotti?) while you wait. And my fave — they have these little mini chapsticks you can have (try not to take handfuls of them).
They’re very good at explaining what they are doing and making sure you are as comfortable as possible. They even have an office dog — TONY — who is adorable and will sit with you while you’re getting your teeth worked on. He’s a sweetie and breathes loud. Haha. I like it here. Even though I moved from one block away all the way to the eastside, I’ll still come here. :)

The night before my first appointment, Dr Buck himself called me to welcome me to the clinic. That little touch impressed me a lot.
I found Dr Buck and his staff willing to take the time to listen to my concerns, answer my questions, and offer me intelligent and informed choices in my dental care. At the end of my visit, the plan for my upcoming dental work was detailed out on paper, along with the exact costs involved. I was sent home without an appointment — it was entirely up to me to decide whether I wished to follow up or not. There was no pressure, and scare tactics. I went home, weighed my options, and scheduled a follow up appointment.

Every experience I have had with Dr. Buck’s office has always been pleasant and professional. His staff is extremely friendly and positive. Both the hygienists and Dr. Buck himself are excellent about answering any questions or methods on procedures and options. I feel they make recommendations and suggestions without coming across as overbearing or threatening you into feeling you would be jeopardizing your health should you elect not to follow their advice immediately. They also do a good job of describing precisely why a specific procedure would be beneficial. Chairside manner is considerate and thoughtful. The patient’s comfort is always a priority, and they even have an office therapy dog who will gladly curl up in your lap during fillings if you’re feeling antsy. I always feel confident, comfortable and at ease whenever I have an appointment, knowing I will receive excellent care. I have referred three friends to Dr. Buck over the past few years that I have been a patient, and they have all had positive things to say.

After receiving treatment from Dr. Buck I have to question anything but positive reviews.
I found his office staff to be very professional and his chair side manner to actually be educational. He took the time to explain all my options to me and I felt like he truly cared about my well being.
I feel that he has a true passion for his craft and a truer compassion for his clients. Dr. Buck… keep doing what you’re doing.

I’ve only been here to get a slight pain in my tooth checked on but they were great. I choose this dentist because he’s environmentally friendly and they have a great website that has lots of information. While I waited for my appt. I was offered bottled water, apple juice and tea. They even gave me a print out of my insurance plan and benefits covered.
Dr. Buck was very friendly and explained everything he did. He made me feel comfortable and not like he was rushing through it all. Afterward, he talked about causes of my pain and explained how diet and environment can affect the health of your teeth.
