Safe & Alive Bee Hive Removal

As others have attested, Otto knows his stuff and is the best at what he does.
I had a beehive being built in the attic of my 85-​year-​old house. I called Otto, who immediately came out and started the removal process. This was no small deal; it took three days (read further down and you’ll appreciate how SHORT this actually is). The house is a Spanish style with the clay pipes you’ll see near the roof line for ventilation of the very small attic, which is where the bees had entered in the first place.
My options were to remove a part of the roof to take the hive out (I had recently re-​roofed my house with a very expensive, high-​quality roof, and my roofer quoted me $ 1700-​$ 2500 for the repair, depending on the size of the hole); OR, remove the hive from the ceiling of my bedroom — for an extra charge of $ 50. I obviously chose the ceiling route.
After the bees were removed, I asked Otto to place screening in all the pipes, which he did. (NOTE: If you have this style of home, I HIGHLY recommend you do the same and save yourself the $$ I had to spend because no one told me about this).
I initially used another company, who came out and «puffed» some chemicals of some sort into my attic and told me to be patient, this takes time, and to give it a month to work ($ 400); perhaps a second treatment would be needed. After a MONTH, I called back (thinking they would just do a removal) and was told to have another treatment ($ 85), and wait another month. I’m trying to get my home on the market and — sheez! — who has time for this?
Again, as others have said, Otto knows his stuff and is very interesting to talk with. You’ll learn a lot about bees and find the whole process educational. He’s great and really will get the job done — not in a month, either!

I had a one day old hive that I figured I should take care of and I gave these guys a call. It was around 5 and simply due to rush hour, it took them an hour to get here. Same day. Unbelievable. I didn’t expect same-​day service, let alone within the hour. My problem was probably on the easy end of the spectrum but they took care of it in less than an hour and even gave me the honeycomb! Price was reasonable (under $ 200) and I was more than pleased. If you’ve got a bee problem, don’t hesitate to give these guys a call. I highly recommend.

This company is great. I discovered a hive on the side of my house after seeing a huge swarm of bees. I placed a call that morning and spoke with Otto. He and his partner came out and removed the bees within an hour. There were a few remaining straggler bees and I was advised they would eventually leave.
Well, they didn’t. Those stubborn bees regrouped, albeit in a much smaller pack. I let Otto know, and they have a 30 day guarantee. They came out the next morning and removed the stragglers.

Otto just dropped by to take care of the ‘bee situation’ at my house. I called him yesterday and he showed up as soon as he could. He was so helpful and sincere. He ensured the problem is completely resolved, placed a finer mesh so that bees won’t be able to come through the vent anymore. He also advised about bee-​proofing the house. I just found him to trust worthy, sincere and very reasonable for what he does. I will certainly call him for any needs in future. Give him a call for anything bee related!

Otto is a joyful man, greatly skilled in his craft. We had a large bee hive under a section of our Italian tile roof near our chimney, Otto opened up the site, removed the hive, cleaned up the area thoroughly, and sprayed it down with a natural bee repellant to prevent a re-​infestation. He relocated the queen and all the bees into a bee box that he left on the roof nearby the opened area for 2 days. Otto is an experienced carpenter and roofer — how convenient in this line of work! After the bees were out and the mess cleaned up, Otto replaced some of our roof boards that were damaged, reinstalled flashing, new roof paper, and the tiles. The process took a total of 3 days and all is back to normal. Otto is reasonably priced and we could not be more pleased with his service. This guy truly is the «bee whisperer» — he loves bees and it was fun watching him encourage a few stragglers into the box before he left.

We had a new bee hive in a ground level irrigation control box. We wanted to have the bees safely and humanely relocated. We called Otto and he was out in 3 hours. He was a very personable guy and enjoyed meeting him. He set up a new wooden hive next to their location and put the mass of bees gently into the hive. He located the queen and inserted her into the hive. By sunset the bees completely inhabited their new home and Otto returned at 4:30 AM the next day to relocate the new hive. We highly recommend using Otto for your bee removal needs!

Found soccerball size swarm in our tree. Because of reviews, we called Safe & Alive. Otto arrived within one hour on a Saturday afternoon. Remarkable man. With no suit or gloves, (only a head net), he gently, peacefully, shook our tree and opened his fresh wooden box and the bees began to follow down into the box. They swarmed all around him, but peacefully. No stinging no anger. It’s as if they know he has come to help, not harm. He searched with a magnifying glass for the Queen Bee for about 10 minutes. Once he found her, he put her in a little plastic case, and put her into the box, telling us, they will now follow her to the box. He waited another 30 minutes, and left with almost all 3000 bees. (his estimate). By the next day, the few «stragglers» were all gone. No harm. He was going to relocate them to a bee farm. Can’t say enough good about this guy. He is a Jesus Follower. He is the Bee Whisperer in my opinion. Oh, and his price was less than half of the other quotes I got when I called around. Thank you, Otto!

I am a personal assistant and often I have to arrange for projects to be done, for clients. This was the case here. There were a ton of bees at this client’s home. I was very impressed with Otto and his helpers. They were patient and friendly, always arrived on time, phone calls were returned, he explained everything well, and really seemed to know what they were doing. I had a good feeling about them and didn’t even look anywhere else. The job was done (it’s a least a 2-​visit process) as he explained it would be. If I ever hear of another need (hopefully not!) I have no problem recommending Otto.

This last May a small swarm of honey bees set up shop at the bottom of a tree in our front yard. The hive grew large enough that I was concerned someone would report it or try and harm it, so after a few calls to beekeepers my wife and I settled on Safe & Alive with father and son, Otto and Otto.
They just safely removed the hive, queen, comb and all which they put in a standard beehive box. The colony will be relocated to Del Mar where they know a ‘bloom’ of a stand of eucalyptus trees will be starting soon.

I recently tried Safe and Alive Bee Hive Removal. They removed the bee’s and queen alive and honored their warranty. They returned a week later after some bee’s returned to the original site because of the smell of the honey. They didn’t arrive when scheduled; however, rescheduled the next day.
I recommend them for this service — they are reasonably priced, responsible, and honored their warranty.

Unprofessional and more expensive than another place I used. They were #2 for pricing. I quoted 3 companies and went with another company due to pricing. What I didn’t like about this company was the guy asked me to text him my address because he didn’t have a pen on him. After that he calls me at 6am the next day to try and setup a visit. Sorry that’s a day later and I already got the job done. They wanted $ 350 to just exterminate here, the other company was more reasonable in pricing.
