Master Hardscapes

I can heartily recommend Master Hardscapes for construction of new patios as well as modifying landscapes for water conservation in conjunction with the patio work. Paul and his workmen, in particular Fabio, were honest, punctual, hardworking and talented. They worked with us as the job proceeded to make modifications of the original plan on the fly according to our suggestions. When a minor problem occured after the job was completed, this company rapidly rectified the problem. Five Stars.

Paul and his team just recently worked on 2 properties I own and they did a phenomenal job! If you need any type of work done on the ground, call them, you won’t regret it.

So, Paul showed up 90 minutes late because he supposedly forgot to write down the appointment we scheduled. He took measurements and told me he will send the quote for a patio later that day. I emailed him 1 week later, and as of 3 weeks ago, I have not received a response or a quote. It’s all good though! He didn’t seem too enthused when he finally showed up.

Amazing work! Did what he said, when he said and on budget! My friends seriously can’t believe the transformation! Paul even matched existing concrete design. Also installed fake grass as a last minute request, added a pergola and BAM, San Diego living at its finest! Love it! Highly recommend!!!

Okay so I am the first to hammer someone when they do a poor job. Don’t often get to the «good» ones to rate, but Master Hardscapes deserved the review.
I needed a driveway expansion and out of all the businesses I called (5) Paul was super timely and professional. Came out the day I reached out to him, and was able to get me scheduled within 3 days!
His crew arrived on time and were totally personable but also very professional and talented. They went above and beyond on my work and the finished product is better than I had hoped for.
If you’re looking for concrete work, look no further, MH does the customer right on price and experience.

I wish I could give Master Hardscapes more than 5 stars. They were AMAZING!
We put in a new concrete walkway and two big patios, one of which had a couple stairs leading up to the patio. The stairs were always something we wanted, but didn’t know how to design them in order for them to not look cheesy/​weird. Paul helped guide us and give us his professional opinion on design and we could not be happier with the outcome.
The whole team finished the big project in only three days, left the space very clean and most importantly they were all extremely friendly and happy!

I’ve tried to get Paul to give me a quote for concrete in my backyard for two months. He did great work for me before, but now he won’t return calls or e-​mails. He must have something going on in his life preventing work

This review is long overdue. We hired Master Hardscapes in May 2014 to grade our backyard and build a new stairway with interlocking block and paver stones. We couldn’t be more pleased with the job they did, and their prices are GREAT! We will be using them again! Hire Master Hardscapes. You will not be disappointed!

We had MH pour 50×30 concrete in our backyard. Had received several quotes. Paul beat all the competitors and went above and beyond. We will definitely go with Paul again. We have more that we will like to do. If you go with MH you wont be dissapointed. Very professional and takes his job and company seriously.

We needed a small job done on short notice and Paul was extremely helpful and accomodating, and I felt that his price was very fair, especially considering I was clearly in a time crunch and he could have taken advantage of that. He and his helpers started on time and finished on time. The finished work looked great, and they made sure to clean up their mess. We would definitely use Master Hardscapes again.

We recently used Master Hardscapes to redo the side of our yard & could not be more pleased! The side of our house had tons of rocks, dirt & random old stepping stones. We had Paul and his team put in pavers in the area to store our trash cans, a walkway from the driveway & artificial grass for a dog run. Paul did an excellent job of making the area level where there was some sloping & it turned out great! His team worked very hard & took care of everything we asked. He listened to all of my concerns & needs on the job. I would definitely recommend them!

We needed about 200sq feet of concrete poured along the side of our house. We checked with two referrals from family and friends. Both gave estimates but decided they weren’t interested in the work because the got bigger jobs that preempted ours, even though we were first in line.
Exasperated and about to give up until the fall (when I knew contractors would be less busy), I found Master Hardscapes on Unilocal.I reached out to them on a Thursday and met Paul for his walk-​through that Saturday. Paul showed up promptly on time, which was unexpected and refreshing.
We discussed our needs and Paul asked a lot of great questions to ensure he understood what we wanted to accomplish. At the end of the walk-​though, he quoted a price. The price was competitive with the other two bids we’d already received and they had time in their schedule the following Thursday. Paul went back to his truck, WROTE UP A LEGITIMATE PROPOSAL WITH TERMS on his laptop, then came back with the laptop to show me and sent it to me via email later to ensure I had a copy.
After calling on Wednesday to confirm the next day’s work, they showed up on Thursday right on time. Paul and I re-​confirmed everything that we discussed the prior Saturday, and they got to work. They finished on time as well, and I arrived home after work to find that Paul and the team exactly delivered on what we agreed to. He even gave me a follow up call later that evening to confirm the work was to my expectations.
As part of clearing out the area to receive concrete, they moved the large rocks and other items to other locations in the yard so I could retain them… but it was my desire to have them dispose of those items as part of their demo and prep work. Also, because they were pouring so close to a fence there was some concrete residue on the fence that I’ll have to clean off and/​or stain to match. Certainly not a capital offense and given everything else, not a big deal for me. They’re head and shoulders above anyone else I’ve used for hardscaping over the past 15+ years and they’re definitely at the top of the list for my next job. Thanks, Paul!

Paul, the owner came out to give me a quote for a fairly big project. When I called him, he answered the phone right away then continued to keep in touch. His price was by far the BEST of all the quote I’ve received (I had 4 quotes). You know what they say about «If it sounds to good to be true…» So I was a bit skeptical. But Paul had such genuine demeanor and had honest attitude, I decided to give him a try. Oh my goodness, he exceeded our expectations! He came on time each day and over looked the job daily. The job was completed as promised and on time. I was so happy, I paid him more than the agreed price. I want Unilocalers to give this man a chance. Paul and his team did a fantastic job on my backyard concrete and custom BBQ project. I received multiple bids from different contractors. Paul gave me a reasonable bid and completed the scope of work in the timeline he provided. It was one of my first experiences working with a contractor who actually did what he said he was going to do. Paul also didn’t nickle or dime me with little things that came up along the way. What I enjoyed most working with Paul is that he was hands-​on with everything and paid attention to detail. The pictures I posted tell it all. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Paul.

At the end of May 2013, my husband and I had a received a ridiculous bid from one of those big paving companies. After finding Master Hardscapes on Unilocal we gave them a call.
Paul, the owner, came out immediately and gave us a much more reasonable bid. He was professional, honest and promised to have people on the job each and everyday.
True to his word (and believe me, I’m a big skeptic), he and his crew, who were also very polite and patient with us, lived up to an outstanding performance. They showed up, on time, everyday and even worked on a couple of weekends to get the job done.
In my opinion, it was a big job, consisting of ripping out tons of tile (left over by the previous owner, who must have gotten a clearance sale on it), and four inches of concrete, plus grass. They also tore down my old stucco BBQ and rebuilt it out of stone and added a beautiful colored concrete top. They installed a nice patch of artificial turf and built an awesome fire pit.
Needless to say we were so impressed with his work that quickly thereafter we had them tear up the driveway, expand it with pavers, build a planter, rip out the old grass and had in new sod. Now planting grass and little flowers in the planter was not really, Paul’s expertise, but he took it on and did it with a smile. It turned out to be spectacular and we are the envy of all our neighbors.
I would highly recommend Master Hardscapes, we are truly pleased with everything.

Paul is excellent at getting you a finished product at great price. Expect him to work hard to complete your project and expect many compliments.

I had over 1000 sq ft of uneven/​rough/​overgrown yard I needed poured as a patio and car port foundation. To top it off, it was a bizarre shape along the side of the house, around an existing shed, and curved along the back side requiring forms of various shapes almost all the way around.
Paul said they could do it in a day. We negotiated the price and date. Well the day came and I got a knock on my door bright and early with a whole crew ready to go.
The bobcat hauler broke down so they had to clear, grade, and level the entire area by hand! To my astonishment, they had the whole area graded, leveled, and ready to pour by noon.
They poured the foundation to driveway specs for strength and had it smoothed and leveled beautifully by 6:00 PM. Those guys worked their tails off!
Paul meticulously went over every square foot making sure there were no blemishes and detailing the work.
I definitely found «the guy» for future projects.

Paul Mejia and his crew were extremely professional and efficient. We were in dire need of a better draining yard and Paul was able to come out the same day to provide us with a reasonable bid. His crew quickly hauled out all the rocks (there was A LOT of rocks) within the day and shovel out all the dirt in preparation for laying concrete. In addition, he installed drains to prevent our once disastrous yard from flooding. The job was done in a week.
After the first rain, I saw some areas in the concrete that were still puddling. I called Paul to see if anything could be done and he was able to fix the areas after the concrete cured. His perfectionist nature, professionalism and punctuality are aspects which makes Paul and his crew great to work with. I will definitely hire Master Hardscapes again for any hardscape needs.
