A dump. A white trash hovel in a shitty neighborhood. the manager tried to hustle us for $ 200 for her mistakes

This place is a complete dive. My husband and I were paying weekly rates. Management calls a week 6 days so they can make more money off you. We were all paid up and i wanted to move to a room with an operating heater and she refused to move us because she claimed it would be too much trouble. She also kept saying a new heater/​ac unit was on its way and it never came. So we were cold and there was nothing we could do about. No refunds.
She did wind up moving us once we were finally settled in. She made us go to a nasty room that was worse than the first. Reason being she wanted to put an older woman in our room because it had a tyb even though we had reserved it AND paid for it.
We slid the key into the room and there was a big overweight sweaty man with no shirt on passed out on the bed.
We waited for them to get him checked out. They cleaned the room. Made us move everything.
Raised the price on us over and over.
She rairley provided tt paper
the toilet overflowed she did not send anyone to go clean up the sewer. 2 days later we finally left. She is a rip off and the place is filled with junkies. I have never seen anything like this before. In movies, yes.

etc! Read the fine print, they have a «mandatory» fee for having sheets on the bed! So whatever rate you book at, you will be paying more! I booked a room for $ 35 and ended up with a $ 50.25 bill. It is my belief that if you have no choice about paying the extra mandatory sheet fee, then the room shouldn’t be listed for less than it can actually be rented for! It’s false advertising.
My experience was less than pleasant here. No room key given (was told to ring the front desk bell when I wanted in which took awhile to wake someone at 3 am). No towels, wash clothes, lockers, soap or keys provided and the condition of blankets and property were very substandard. I won’t be booking again.

Zero stars!!! Dirty disgusting run down dump!!! We took a look at a room and turned right around running out of there! Dirty walls– holes in walls and behind the sink. Wood falling off the walls «crack is one hell of a drug» was written on the mirror in bathroom! You think they would paint it??? Please don’t book a room here without looking at one first. There’s crack heads in almost every room. (most of them had there doors open) there was a naked guy sitting on his couch with his window wide open!!! Saw a guy snorting drugs in his room! Door was wide open!!! Staff is rude as hell… DONT STAY HERE!!! The neighborhood is nice but the people staying there are scary! I can’t believe they would charge that much for such a shit hole!!!

Absolutely Nasty! Never stay here, ever. Seriously do t even consider it. The managers bedroom is right behind the counter at its nasty and so are the rooms. I’m cool with old furniture, band up walls, but at least make an attempt to clean. Shower and pillow cases had hair all over. Just plain nasty.

I needed a cheap hotel for a quick stay in Portland. I didn’t want anything too fancy because I didn’t plan on spending a lot of time in the hotel. I just needed a place to sleep.
I wouldn’t go as far to say that this place is as bad as the reviews state. I mean, it’s not an awesome hotel, but it is not like sleeping in a garbage can either.
It does make me sad though — the building has SO MUCH potential and could be so nice with just a little bit of effort.
The room itself was very quiet and the A/​C was a great feature as it was 32 degrees out. The bedding and towels were clean.
The only annoying thing was that my suite had no toilet paper or soap. Thankfully I had some soap on me, but I had to go find the toilet paper.
If I wanted another cheap night, I would stay here again. The neighbourhood has lots of really cute character homes in it which was really cute and the hotel is located really closed to transit that goes right into downtown.

There is nothing redeemable about this place except for a full time kitchen. It’s not even cheap. We paid $ 90 per night for a double bed room, and we could’ve gotten a NICE room for that price! Roaches were everywhere, so were flies, and the three of us that stayed in the room got bit by mites, which left itchy red spots.
Completely filthy, nobody ever cleans here. I don’t think the bathroom has been touched since it was built. Also, it smells terrible. We had to wash all of our clothes to get the smell out after we left.
It’s the worst place in Portland and it’s not even cheap.

A friend from Japan visited and stayed here. He had flee bites all over his body from the bed! He asked to get the bed cleaned and they wouldn’t. He also asked to get a refund for his last night as he decided to stay elsewhere, they refused. I’m so disgusted that a visitor would be treated to poorly while staying in my city. The cost of everything ended up being $ 55 a night, so stay at a hotel!!!

It isn’t the Ritz, but it’s an okay room at a reasonable price. Roxy (the manager) is very sweet and helpful. The place could use some paint and stuff to make it nicer. The other people that were staying there at the time were very entertaining. It’s in walking distance to the Rose Garden and downtown. Also the Max is very close by.

I arrived and they put me in #28 — very scary! No mirror, spitball (i hope) on the wall, graffiti, smells, and a very negative vibe. I complained («no refunds!» she blurts out). Was moved to #43. nicer but no sheets, no trash can, and no internet connection as promised. The guy working the front desk was friendly, but that is it. Go elsewhere.

I had originally made a reservation in the morning. I got there about 6pm via a $ 10.00 taxi after hours of traveling. I was just looking for a nice affordable place to crash until I can catch a flight home next day. I am partially disabled and dragging a huge suitcase. The front desk lady who is also disabled comes out and tells me there is only one bed available that is top bunk and refuses to rent it out afraid that I will fall off and hurt myself but that she does have another room for 70.00 with a kitchenette. I feel I am being taken advantage of. I decline and she sends me away telling me to go find another hostel and there nothing she can do. I call the other hostel and they are booked up. I call her back out of sheer desperation and now she just becomes rude. Tells me shes sorry but I am on my own and there’s nothing she can do. My last words are «Lady you suck!!». I ended up shlepping my gear across town to a Motel 6 and ended up ok. I then read the reviews and was sooo glad I did not stay there as I never saw any of the rooms or the in house crack heads that live there or the bedbugs and dirt and catpee smelling beds. Thank God my bad luck was really good luck in disguise.

Stayed in dorm, which is a bedroom with two bunk beds shoehorned into it. First surprise – sheets are extra ($ 5). Second surprise: place is clean, but badly in need of remodeling. Older lady in wheelchair runs the place and lives on-​site (right next to the eating area, actually…). Little security and no lock boxes to put stuff. Giving it 2 stars for cleanliness, convenience, and price.

Recently moved to Portland and needed a long term place to stay while looking for a permanent apartment. I found the Portland Pensione via their daily posts on craigslist advertising a five night stay studio apartment for $ 195.
When I got there, right off that bat I knew I was in for trouble. The landlord was evicting a tenant because «he had a guest visit him.» It turns out they have a strict no visitor policy, probably to curb the prostitution ring that appears to be run out of here (I was propositioned for services several times).
I asked for the five night stay, but they only had a two night stay available for $ 56 a night plus a move in fee.
The room was fairly clean, no sign of bugs, but the television was smashed in (they advertise free TV and HBO) and the bathroom was stained with some foreign substance.
The police were in and out of this place day and night. From my experience, this is a hostel on the side, because it primarily serves as a hot bed for drugs and prostitution.
I was lucky to find an apartment the next day so I didn’t have to stay another night, because this place is dangerous, dirty, and most of all a scam.

For someone who has traveled all over the world and spent the night in some suspect places, I was shocked at the state of this supposed hostel. The cost associated was no reflection of the level of squalid accommodations, from the dismal
«common room» to the dorm bedroom itself which smelled badly and the bathroom which seemed right in place were it India or South America or Africa but very shocking for the price and in this country. I was going to just «suck it up» and spend two nights, but there was no safe place to put my stuff and I was not given the bedding I paid an additional $ 5 for, so I chalked it up to a learning experience, and left. I wonder why the health department doesn’t shut this place down, or at least some truth in advertising — avoid this place.

its an experience, thats for sure. Not your typical hostel or hotel… most others in the place are permanent residents, and none of them seem normal in the slightest. But, its cheap and livable. My experience was not as bad as the other reviews. You can walk to the free train to downtown so the location isnt bad.

The positive reviews on this page have got to be fake. First of all, my friends and I only booked this place because we needed a cheap place on short notice. The only reason we ended up staying is because we knew we’d only be there for one night. The room was dark and dirty and smelled of cigarettes. There was no trash can. The bathroom looked horrible and I literally gasped when I saw it. The toilet leaked after flushing (yes​.it leaked) and the entire floor was wet and dirty. None of us wanted to take a shower since we knew we’d be going home the next day. I washed my hair in the kitchen sink rather than venturing into the shower. The only things the hotel provided were 2 bars of ‘facial soap’ and pillows and towels which none of us felt comfortable using. (Good thing we brought our own blankets, pillows, and towels. Two of us still opted to sleep on the floor, thinking it would be cleaner than the bed.) Honestly, just fight your urge to be cheap and go somewhere else.

Giving this place one star is to dramatically overrate it. Bedbugs and crackheads are the featured amenities at this joint.
We booked a room at the Pensione when we first got into Portland. We booked the room for a week. We didn’t stay a single night. The deadbolt on the door didn’t work, the covers had holes in them, and when we turned down the bed, an angry bug scurried away.
They refused to refund our money, but it was better losing the money than to stay a single night in this shit hole.
The Pensione should be shut down.

Why would you stay here when you could go to a HoJo for $ 41/​night!!! This place charges $ 50 per night in hell. It’s dirty, unsafe, and worse (and more expensive) than a backpackers hostel. It’s also in a dodgy neighborhood.
If you book a night online through a Priceline-​type site, they won’t charge your card till you get there because they’re so cheap (the fees would be too high to use their cc machine). They apparently only have one blanket and have to warsh it before they give it to you (if they remember).
Roxie seems nice until you ask for something and then she yells you’re stealing money from a cripple (her). She’ll tell you the room you’re getting is the nicest they have and that it was redone in February of 2009.
The room didn’t have a closet but it did have a desk and generic hotel paintings nailed to the wall. But wait, it gets classier. The bathroom was dirty with archaic plumbing and the toilet paper roll affixed to a 2×4 on the wall. The faucet sprayed everywhere and wouldn’t stay on. There was a very thin bedspread that had cigarette burns and stains and the bed had 2 thin sheets. The pillows were almost non-​existent and had hair all over them. Hardwood floors, no ceiling, only one tiny light bulb in the entire room worked. There was a fridge and a microwave that could not be used at the same time and the fridge smelled like mildew.
