THE WORST OF THE WORST! (DISCLAIMER: long detailed post)
I am not that hard to please and i normally know what i’m getting myself into, so i take everything with a grain of salt and with places like this i have low to virtually no expectations!
BUT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS JUST THE WORST HERE!
The people at this place do not understand customer service at all! I called three days prior to find out what their policy was on late check-​in or how late I could check in because I knew I wouldn’t get there til maybe 2 or 3 in the morning. The guy at the front desk informed me that this would not be an issue at all and i can call that night around midnight to give them a better idea of my arrival. I thought ok, great.
Night of the check-​in I don’t wait till midnight till he had informed me, i call around 9pm which I thought would be more convenient TO THEM to let them know i’ll definitely not be there by 2am and would get there later. Boy was I mistaken.
Instead of doing what they can to accommodate, me, THE PAYING CUSTOMER, that already pre-​paid so I’m good for my money and TWO rooms, noooooo they give me the worst service ever.
They don’t try to work with you at all, they say no you have to come now by midnight or 1am to keep the reservation. It’s like what’s the point of calling in to let you know if you’re not going to do something for the customer. I’m not a no-​show …I’m CALLING you.
So I even think of ways to help them think of how to ACCOMMODATE me, cause obviously by this point i’ve realized they don’t know how to use their common sense or brain. I ask them if I can somehow do a check-​in over the phone and take care of it through there. after minutes of being put on hold (which i’m assuming their talking to their managers, though just by the tone in their voice as they speak their native tongue, it seems they are just talking mad shit… and I’m starting to feel uncomfortable even staying there at this point) they say fine they’ll let us check-​in over the phone, we just need to give them our credit card info and i am more willing to give that to them, but i ask for their name first… and ask me why this is the hardest thing in the world to get from them.
How stupid do they think I am to just give all my credit card info and not have anything to back myself up after. And why was it so hard to give me a name? IT LITERALLY TOOK 5 MINUTES OF DRAGGING TO GET A NAME OUT OF HER, WHO I WILL NOW PUT ON BLAST: ISHIDA P. (and believe me i know what p stands for but i ain’t that rude!)
If that’s not shady as hell, I don’t know what it is. So i call her out on this and ask why she won’t simply give me her name, so I know who I’m giving my credit card info to so once I get there, i’ll have no more issues to occur, and she has the audacity to say i’m being rude, but I’ve been on the road for more than 10 hours, it’s late, i’m at risk of losing my room where i can finally just plop my tired body on, AND YOU WON’T GIVE ME A NAME FOR CRYING OUT LOUD… and you call me rude and giving you attitude… lady, you don’t know customer service if it hit you in the face!
So she threatened me, stating she has the right to refuse service to me, and by this point, i’m beyond aggravated so i say fine, Give me my money back, I don’t want to stay with people who have no understanding of customer service anyway and she said okay and quickly hung up the phone on me.
I had to call the third party website that I made the hotel reservation to ensure I got my money back — which they did… thank god!
BOTTOM LINE: DON’T STAY HERE IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR ACCOMMODATIONS! You have been warned!

Update on previous one star review (which I wish I could make no stars)
So now approaching three months ago at easter weekend when I stayed there and was overcharged 3000 and when they put it back onto the card (which was canadian) ended up getting charged an extra $ 220 for their mistake.
Still no resolution at all. Have emailed multiple times, called multiple times, called choices who represents them, emailed choices, and absolutely no help or resolution.
How can a business get away with charging someone an extra $ 220 dollars? with no repercussion? How can choices represent a hotel like this yet not be able to help when stuff like this happens?
There are multiple reviews about how rude this man is and probably numerous complaints made. Kind of left in a place of helplessness and at this point it’s not even so much about the money but holding this man accountable.
When calling to speak to him the lady always says he is away and will get back in a few days (which he obviously doesn’t) and then when choices hotel rep called them they said he is going to be away for a month now.
This is garbage service, a garbage hotel, and I desperately hope it goes under.

With a cheap hotel room I can quickly get over the weird air freshener smell, the horrible mattress, the ugly décor. I have stayed in many hotels that are cheap and sketchy, and its always a bit of a laugh. Kind of weird the linens had holes in them and the brown middle blanket had something weird crusted on (clearly hadn’t been washed in a while).
But, the total stay was $ 460 or something to that effect. After checking my banking they had charged $ 4460 (accidentally pressing the 4 button twice). They then sorted out how much they owed us back and didn’t give us enough money back in Canadian dollars; they shorted us about $ 250. After calculating out how much they shorted us we tried getting in touch with them regarding this but no one will speak to us about it. It has been over a month now trying to get the money back that they overcharged us. They arent helpful at all. It really shouldnt be that difficult, they have the records and can see everything. They also should have said when they accidentally overcharged in the first place
Not worth the ‘cheaper’ price for the hotel. Stay somewhere else.

Horrible stay. The place was really dodgy. Most uncomfortable bed. pretty much wrecked my back, which ruined my whole trip. Service was terrible as well.
Then to top it off, they overcharged my card by $ 220, and refuse to even talk to me about it. What a scam. supposed to be at least a cheap place to stay, and we ended up paying $ 170/​night!

We were planning a 2 night trip to Portland and didn’t want to blow the budget on a hotel. After reading reviews we settled on this econolodge location.
The location was much better than we expected. It was about a 10 min drive to all of the places we planned on visiting. It’s not difficult to get in and out of because it’s on a one way street so you’re always headed in the right direction when trying to get to the hotel.
We never had problems trying to park throughout the day.
The outside looks alittle run down, but the rooms are fairly modern. I always bring a blacklight with me and found no «weird» spots when checking the room. However, the top of the toilet seat was kind of gross…
The free wifi is decent and the water pressure in the shower is great. Their cable channel choices are limiting.
The staff is 50/​50, it depends on who you’re dealing with. The younger woman with stars tattooed on her hand is very knowledgeable and helpful. The older staff don’t seem to know much about what’s going on though.

Staying at this hotel was the most terrible experience ever! Our company was paying for the hotel room and they did not have email, only a very archaic fax machine. The owner was very rude and said that everyone had to wait outside until the fax came through and they kept asking for tweaks to be made to the authorization form — they kept saying their property has all these rules (which did not really make sense) it was freezing outside and they were so rude and at that point, we felt we needed to jump through their little hoops because they had our credit card number and it was too late to cancel the room. We were so frustrated and when we told them that the experience was very frustrating, they told us that they could refuse to rent us a room if they wanted to … if I knew it would have been this way, I would have definitely booked another hotel — it was not worth it at all … and on top of it, the rooms were not clean and they smelled terrible. Do not stay here — especially if you have children!

U get what u pay for here. Its cheap. I just needed a place to sleep and bounce out to my next destination. Nothing fancy and u gotta keep ur windows close cause how loud the street cars and train gets.
On the positive note, ur close to the stadium and the street cars stops right in front of the place. So the location for this place is great. Its close to almost everything.

The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I checked in for a 2 night stay, and was given a keyard that expired at 11am the next day.(which got replaced) The carpet was wet and the rm. smelled funky. never again…

Stayed here for a NBA game room was very clean. Front desk was very helpful. Bed was very comfortable. Will stay here again if come up for a game again, was only like 1 block away to Moda center.

I stayed at this place with my fiancé on our way to San Diego for two nights. It is very close to downtown Portland and the Street Car stops right in front of you. But what I’m most impressed with is the safe environment of the lodge and the honest people working there.
Basically I accidentally left my jewelry there and didn’t realize until a week after. It was worth couple of thousand dollars. They kept it safe for me and took care of all my requests regarding shipping the jewelry! I can’t believe that I got them all, untouched. I can’t express how happy I am. This is probably one of the most important thing you want to see in the place you are staying. So I strongly recommend this place.

Pros: Inexpensive. The cheapest place I could find anywhere near the city center. Nice enough staff. Clean room.
Cons:
1) A little bit of an odd smell in the room. Enough to be noticeable when you come in, not enough to be a problem. But the smell shouldn’t have been there. Seemed to be coming from the bathroom, which probably means a plumbing issue.
2) Continental breakfast is just coffee, OJ, and the sorts of danish pastries you can pick up at 7 – 11. Rather disappointing. I was expecting cereal, at least… some fruit would have been nice… but yeah. Went out for breakfast both days.
3) Spotty reception on cable. Were hoping to watch Breaking Bad. AMC came in, but kept going out. I didn’t think cable did that. Also noticed a DirectTV antenna outside, which made me wonder where the signal was in fact coming from. at any rate, the lower channels came in fine, but I do expect all of them to work.

This was the worst «cheap» hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I would not recommend staying here. This Econo Lodge is poorly managed and operated. 1. The water for the shower was freezing, even after waiting in between showers for it to reheat 2… We woke up the following morning (and were planning on staying another night) when there was standing dirty hair and water in the tub from the neighboring room who showered prior to us waking up that had backed up into our tub, and when we called to get assistance with the problem, the girl who worked the front desk came and poured draino down the tub and told us to wait a half hour then run hot water to flush it out, or, if we didn’t want to flush it out ourselves then we could call her back to do it 8 [ she didn’t offered to clean the disgusted tub after pouring those chemicals down the drain. Needless to say we cut our stay there short, totaling a whopping $ 180 for one night’s stay!

Econo Lodge looks and smells like a place where hookers die.
But the rates are good!

We were going to a performance at the Rose Arena and wanted something cheap and close. This place scored on both counts — about the cheapest place we found in Portland in late June, and only a five minute walk to the auditorium. Was it palatial? No. Was it clean? Yes, a bit musty smelling but yes. They offer ‘breakfast’ in their tiny reception area but only commercial pastries. The thermos coffee however was not too bad. The building is basically an L shape with surface parking. When there is an event at the Arena they rent parking space to Arena patrons, so we were advised to get our car back no later than 3 for an evening performance if we wanted to be able to find space. We took the advice and got back earlier, but there were still vacant spaces in the lot when we left for the performance. BTW, this hotel is only a 10 minute ride on the Portland street car across the Broadway bridge from the Pearl District, and its maybe a ¾ mile walk. We paid $ 88/​night, including all taxes when it was hard to find anywhere else less than $ 150. We will certainly consider this place the next time we visit Portland.

If you like curry (or the smell of it) then definitely stay here! The pillows are so thin you can’t even really call them pillows… Beds are not comfy, super springy. Door frame looks like someone had tried to break in before. No bars on the windows, a little scary when you’re on the lower level. The office smells like curry. They charge an extra $ 10 per additional person if you have more than two guests in a room. Location is within walking distance from the Rose Garden but the room is so shitty I don’t think we will be coming back.

You get what you pay for — — Today
My husband and I arrived late with two little children 3 yr and 10 months in tow with a long day of packing and driving behind us. The attendant seemed inconvenienced to assign a room to our reservation. When asked if there were extra pillows in the room closet he said oh yes yes. We got into our room and had to call the front desk for more pillows, the attendant said he would loose his job if to many pillows were found in the room. He refused to bring them to us but instead required us meet him in the poring rain at the laundry room to turn them over. Continental breakfast was served in the 2ft x 2ft lobby and consisted of coffee and hunny bun. The visit/​service was unsatisfactory. Needless to say we will not be back again.

This small convenient and cheap little motel is situated just on the east side of the Broadway Bridge. Walking to downtown Portland from here is really easy and public transit comes past this place frequently. The staff was friendly and professional. I’ll book here again, next time I’m in Portland.
