History

Established in 1930.

Broadway Cab is the oldest and largest taxicab company in Portland. The company was founded in 1930, and has had a variety of ownership structures since then. The most recent and current ownership is a small group of private investors. In September of 2007, Broadway acquired Sassy’s Cab Co., Inc. The two companies combined operate a fleet of more than 310 cars and 375 drivers. Broadway Cab is led by president and general manager Raye Miles.

In August of 2007, Broadway Cab moved from its 21-​year Northwest Portland location to a new building on Northeast Killingsworth Street designed by local architect Elizabeth Stuart Williams and constructed by Barrs and Genauer Construction, Inc., a progressive company that specializes in commercial green building. The building is high-​performance and environmentally friendly, and Barrs was persistent in constructing the building to be «solar-​ready.»

Driver David picked up my 92 year old father and his wife yesterday from my house. He drove them to the airport to fly back home to LA.
I had requested help in getting them to the 2 wheelchairs I had ordered and to outside check in.
My dad told me David was able to take their luggage to check in and got them situated.
I believe he did what he would do for his parents and I love that.
Thank you David and Broadway Cab for showing such respect.

TAXI? WHAT TAXI!!! I had 45 minutes to make an 11-​minute car ride, and my usual ride canceled. On my auto-​dial list was –was– Broadway Cab. I called and told the dispatcher my address. MissB. after 25 minutes and no sign of a taxi, I called back and guess what? no order for that call was even placed, and guess who answered – that’s right: B so after 20 MORE minutes I called again. yes, you guessed it. B. had not placed the call order for the second time. I was fuming at the ineptness and lack of quality customer service. She had not placed 2 orders! I could lose my job over this. So I placed a THIRD ORDER and still no cab! lo and behold here comes a trimet bus… so I got on it and in all directions everywhere I looked, no taxi. what a FIASCO. that person B. should not be (a) in Customer Service (b) in Dispatch. Lose the job, B. *you caused me to!* I got to work an HOUR late when I started out ahead of schedule. this number is off my list, and I will never ever call for a cab there again.

Yikes! Got a ride home from the airport, driver was texting while drive 2x the speed limit on Airport way. Gave him specific directions multiple times but he still took us to the wrong place, we just said stop and walked the 2 blocks home. As we got out of the car he started talking aggressively in another language, then as we were walking away we heard him screaming in another language in his car, as he was sitting at an empty intersection. It was terrifying. We practically ran home.
Funny part was he asked us why we didn’t call Über. Sure as heck won’t be using a cab service again.

Worst experience with a cab ever. I may miss my flight because after 4 calls and them telling me only a few minutes they never showed. I finally got a Radio Cab that hopefully will save the day.
I would give zero stars if I could.

Got in a Broadway Cab cab at the airport (one that drives up as opposed to calling the company directly). From the moment we got in the cab, the driver wasn’t particularly nice (being 1:30am might have been the issue, but we were a bit tired ourselves arriving 3 hours later than originally scheduled), and complained that the hour was late, almost like us needing a cab at that time was an inconvenience to him.
So we get in the cab, give him the address and he asks us how to get there. I personally wasn’t sure, but I knew that if he headed south on 82nd I would be able to pull up directions on my phone, which thankfully wasn’t out of batteries yet. The nice thing was, was that I was able to give him the most straight forward route to our destination and not be driven on a longer less direct route.
The negative (2⁄5) review is because the driver complained to us about having to be out late (and in a way that made it sound like he was angry with us) and because we had to give our driver directions to get to our destination.

I will never recommend Broadway cab service to anyone! They stole My husbands tools and then made us retrieve them when they found the driver who did it. Did not offer a refund on travel and my husband left him a great tip after he noticed they were gone. It took from Friday till Monday to talk to the right person. It was horrible! They wont refund anything and as far as we know did not punish him. Oh and another thing From pdx airport to Happy valley the drive was talking on the phone with his son which by law you are suppose to talk hands free. So not only did he break the law, but risked my husbands life and the people on the road lives but they clearly did not care!

I’ve gotta say… the writing is on the wall for the cab companies.
I had a horrible experience with Broadway Cab today. I ordered a pickup for medical transportation for a patient. Broadway Cab completely ignored the instructions I gave for entering our building. They did not call to say they had cancelled the pickup. They left our patient waiting for over 2 hours for a pick-​up.
Just get an Über… or Radio Cab worst case. At least they show up.

Wait, can I give less than one star? The damn car broke down! At first my sister and I just thought it was pretty funny and weren’t to worried about it, these things happen, and the driver said we wouldn’t have to pay for the ride (I hope not!) We waited for a solid 20 min for a new car to arrive. We got in and requested to go to jack knife (we were heading from FEAST on the waterfront to downtown, so not too far). We finally got to our destination and the driver asked us to pay… excuse me? After getting into a pretty severe yelling match with him I threw 5 dollars at him (he said the ride was 8) and got out of the car. I was infuriated. The experience definitely put a giant damper on the night. NEVER AGAIN.

I called in the morning to schedule a pick-​up later that afternoon for a client at our office. I gave the dispatcher our address, telephone number, and destination, with a promise that the driver would call when s/​he arrived. At ten minutes past the scheduled pick-​up time, I called the same number I had called earlier and sat on hold for another five minutes. The dispatcher told me that no reservation was in the system and that there were no drivers within five miles. They were not apologetic at all.

Just used Broadway for the last time the other night. We caught a cab at the airport and when we informed the driver of our destination (ten minute drive away), he openly began sulking at us. Erratic, aggressive driving for the next three miles displayed his irritation. Before dropping us off he exclaimed that my company should hire shuttle vans to take us to and from the airport.
Just crap service through and through. I understand why people are taking Über more often now. Hopefully, cab companies will be a thing of the past in five years.

The rude dispatcher I spoke to at Broadway Cab wouldn’t give me an ETA on how long it would take to get a cab because she had «no idea». She advised me she would submit the ticket and to call back in five minutes and maybe they would know by then. So I did. But they never even submitted a ticket for me. No cab was on the way.
So I called Radio Cab. They were polite, helpful and gave me an ETA of 5 – 15 minutes. The clean and courteous cab driver showed up in less than 5 minutes right as the Broadway cab driver (now 20 minutes after my initial call) was pulling around the corner. Guess which cab I got in!
Don’t bother with Broadway Cab.

This would be a 1 star review if the switchboard wasn’t excellent and helpful. Unfortunately, the card reader in the cab rejected all of my cards, so either it was broken or the cabby fucked with it so I had to run and find an atm to pay him. At the airport. When I was already late because of another cab company that had couldn’t get its shiz together to pick up in town at 5am within 30 minutes. So he basically got an outrageous tip when it definitely wasn’t warranted. ($ 40 for a $ 30 fare)
You know who I’ve never had that problem with? Über. There. I said it.
Get your cab game together Portland. Regulate your cabs better or allow in a better model. Currently the only people who are hurting are consumers.

No available cabs, well, any time I ever call. It’s 1045 on a Saturday night and I was just told they are booked for the foreseeable future. Portland, it’s time for Über.

Hailed a cab back to my hotel, short ride but it was pouring. I got in, gave my destination, and noticed after about two blocks the meter was not on.
I asked «can you turn on the meter please?» He pointed at it, shook his head and said «nah, it’ll just be $ 5» I said «that’s great if it is, can you turn the meter on?» He shook his head and just repeated «$ 5.» I told him if he wouldn’t turn the meter on just to stop and I’d find another legit cab where they don’t make up their own prices to pocket my fare. He stopped and said «OK then get out.»
Happily hopped out and hailed ironically another Broadway cab, who immediately turned on the meter, happily got me to my destination, and got an awesome tip (again, I know, short ride). Make sure they turn the meter on.

I booked my ride well in advance and received terrible service. Got my call from the driver on time (5am) asking where I was when he showed up to the wrong location. I told him that I was in an apartment building rather than a house, to which he responded, «Ugh, okay.» and hung up.
I waited about 10 minutes before I called the dispatcher who found my booking request and said the driver was only a half mile away and should be returning soon. I stood outside waiting an additional 15 minutes until I started calling around for a second option to get to the airport in order to make my flight.
I called the dispatcher again and was told that the driver had essentially abandoned my booking and she had to send out another cab to come pick me up. I waited another 15 minutes before the ride showed up and I made it to the airport to find that I was too late to be let through the gates. I had to rebook my flight for a later date and I’m writing this review rather than spending time with my family during the holiday season.

I’m pretty certain a Broadway cab driver kept my phone that I accidentally dropped in their vehicle. I noticed it was missing shortly after arriving at home and tried to call it multiple times with no response. I know I entered the cab with the phone because I closed out my bar tab and immediately hailed a cab home.
My phone had a protective case that stored my license and credit cards making the identification of the owner extremely simple. A few days after the incident, my ID and credit cards miraculously showed up at the police station. They were found in someone’s trash outside near SW 50th.
Because we paid for the cab in cash, we couldn’t provide the cab number but we knew it was one of their minivan cabs. Lost and found department was unable to assist.

I ended up in one via Taxi Magic, only because my preferred fleet was not available at that moment, and I really needed to vamoose.
Stop. Swindling. It doesn’t look good on you, at all.
For 99 out of 100 people, it’s not worth it to get an an argument over a few blocks. It’s definitely not for me. Just get me out of there. But that 1 in a hundred is gonna go postal on yo’ azz one day.
Still a star each for existing and not murdering me, but visitors who might see this: Radio Cab. Always.

I’m lucky I got to my destination. The only reason I used this cab company is because they were in the taxi area at PDX airport. Reasons for the 1 star rating:
–Started driving without a word. Drove a ways before I asked him if he wanted my address
–Got super upset when I told him I lived in Vancouver. I live the next exit over the 205 bridge, right off the highway. He didn’t stop the car when I said I would get out if he didn’t want to drive there.
–I had to give him directions because he had no idea where he was going. Got upset when I gave him turn-​by-​turn directions
–only time he was nice to me was when i paid cash, complaining about how other clients paid with card.
USE VANCOUVER CAB COMPANY! I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN.
