Specialties
The mission of T. Schreiber Studio and Theatre is to support and advance the art of acting and to share this with audiences through award winning productions, industry partnerships, and rigorous training.
History
Established in 1969.
The T. Schreiber Studio began in 1969 with Terry Schreiber teaching 12 actors in a converted loft on the Upper East Side of NYC. Enrollment increased and the group began mounting productions in what were the early beginnings of NYC’s Off-Off Broadway movement and building its reputation of high quality productions and performances.
The studio continued to grow, adding more faculty, more actors, and more plays and in the mid 70′s, drama critic Walter Kerr’s glowing review in the New York Times of Schreiber’s production of The Trip Back Down, brought the Studio much attention and packed houses and the play moved to Broadway.
Throughout the 80′s and 90′s T. Schreiber continued to produce great actors and theatre and moved to East 4th Street, the burgeoning street of Off-Off Broadway. Alumni include Edward Norton, Peter Saarsgard, Maria Bello, & Debra Jo Rupp. T. Schreiber in now located in the Chelsea neighborhood. Classes and productions run continuously throughout the year.
