Sega is a color Genius. When other salons told me my hair was too dark and they couldnt lighten it, Sega came in and blew them away. Take that Regis!
Customer service at the salon was good.
Prices are of a high end salon so expect that, but you get what you pay for :) and my hair was worth every penny.

Sega! He’s the bomb he never disappoints. My hair never felt and looked better. I always look forward to my visits I normally leave it up to him on what’s the best style and look for me. I enjoy coming here they have a lot of creative and talented stylist and friendly staff and they carry the best products.

Disappointed! Came in on time. The cute sweet girl at the front desk asks if I wanted anything to drink and I asked for coffee. The girl leaves and never brings me coffee. I get asked if I have an appointment, I say yes. I get asked if I want anything to drink again. I get served the nasty coffee in a styrofoam cup. First girl who asked me if I want coffee comes back from her 40 minute break. After waiting 35 minutes I had to leave. My hair takes 3 hours so an extra 35 minutes is too much for me :(

Spontaneous (like, I decided to this… yesterday) decision to go from thick waist length hair to a sleek bob could have ended in disaster — instead I ended my afternoon super ecstatic. Mai was fantastic and didn’t hesitate to dive right into handling my thick hair. Paid attention to detail and made sure not a single strand was neglected. I highly recommend a visit. Will be going right back next weekend for a balayage!

Love this place! They did an amazing job on my hair and I never want to go anywhere else again.

I had my hair cut here yesterday. It was my first time at this salon.
I don’t really know where to start. I will say the salon has a great atmosphere, very clean, upbeat, and it is one of the more high end salons on the island.
I was just having my hair cut so nothing special. I don’t even know the ladies name who did my hair she never introduced herself even, I felt as though she was rushing because she was clearly behind on appointments as I was schedule for 1:30 but did not get started until 2:00. It isn’t fair to clients who are paying good money for a service to feel rushed due to you being behind.
I showed her a photo of how I wanted it styled once cut, very simple, and I feel like she didn’t even care. Just half assed it for the sake of time. She was kind of rude I felt like she made no attempt to really make the experience a good one like I saw the other stylists doing. She was the stylist in the middle section behind the register, second station in. I don’t know if I’ll go back, and just request a different stylist or just go back to Paul Brown Salon. This place was a great reminder to don’t fix it if it ain’t broke… aka don’t go to a new salon if there’s nothing wrong with the one you already go to. Lesson learned.

Sega is literally a hair genius. He’s cut my hair nearly a dozen times, and before that, I tried many other stylists at different salons. I’ve been coming back to him for a reason. He really listens to what you want. Even if you pretty much always want the same thing, Sega changes the cut according to current trends and/​or the season. I have really long hair and my cut still looks amazing even if it’s grown out. I’m extremely low maintenance when it comes to my hair. No styling needed, that’s a true sign of a quality haircut. The salon itself is beautiful and chic, with the prices being reasonable for an upscale salon. The receptionist is always friendly, and you can order lemonade or milk tea while you’re there too. I love going to Salon Blanc!

I got highlights and a cut by Alan. It cost me about 275 and it was worth every penny. My experience was simply delightful. He really listened to what I wanted. He didn’t damage my hair by going lighter. And he turned my previously shapeless and heavy dull hair into shiny bouncy hair– I’ve been missing terribly for some time. I highly recommend this salon.
It’s been around for about ten years. He owns it with his wife, who does the accounting-​which is adorable. And I never once felt like he was trying to up sell me. I hate it when people try to up sell me. After several failed attempts– I think I’ve finally found my home salon. Hallelujah!

Salon Blanc excelled way past my desires for what I look for in a hair salon and experience. This is my first time here and can tell you it’s not my last. In fact, immediately post haircut with Alan I had already requested for an appointment for coloring. The price you pay is worth it. And some insight of who I am, I have gotten my haircut twice in the 3 years living in Hawaii and it wasn’t a place I was wanting to return to with excitement. Also haven’t colored my hair in over 3 years.
All the staff is very friendly. Loved every second of feeling like I was in a elegant, high class salon that treated customers as such. Alan did a wonderful job on my cut and loved that I saw it naturally straight and dry then curled it for me after. I forgot his assistants name but thoroughly enjoyed the wash, massage, and the blowdry with Alan.
As soon as I left I got bought a couple drinks at Bellini and asked out on a date haha.

My husband and I have been with Alan for about 12 years now. He works magic on our hair. He has cut my hair beautifully — from long layers to a pixie cut to every length in between. He has a gift with hair.

I have gotten my hair done by a few of the stylists here over the years. Alan always made my hair look good but totally rushes through the styling towards the end. For the amount of money he charges, he should take more time. i also find him way too narcissistic for my tastes, as do much people who i have known to get their hair done by him. Some of the experiences of the other reviewers have been mine as well, when he goes on and compliments how awesome hs work is and calls other stylists over, making a show out of it. Since I have gone to other salons since Blanc, i find it hard to believe it keeps getting voted number one on Honolulu’s Best list. nor does any other stylist or person i have talked to. I rarely no anyone who goes here anymore. hmm.

First-​timer led here by amazing reviews and pictures posted on Unilocal.I was so sure I was going to walk out with a raving 5-​star gushing amazing review… based on how majority of my experience was.
But the reality was I walked out feeling underwhelmed.
I made an appointment for a cut, toner, & kerastase treatment. It’s the new year. Out with the old, in with something fresh and beautiful. Thought I’d try out a different stylist to achieve just that.
Let’s start with the pros:
— The receptionist Tiffany was polite and helpful on the phone and was able to fit me in with Alan for a same day appointment. Sweet!
— Kyle, Alan’s assistant, was very detail-​oriented and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. He made me feel awesome! Not to mention he uses a good amount of pressure during his scalp massage.
— You can order tea or lemonade which is pretty tasty. I had the lemon tea with lychee.
— Parking is validated and free.
— Alan asked a lot of questions about what I wanted and my lifestyle. It came across as he was genuinely interested in achieving the look I wanted. He told me that I was his focus today making sure the cut is fabulous and suited for me.
— Color was perfect!
— Treatment did exactly what I was hoping it would do– brought my hair back to life, looking shiny and hydrated again.
So it started off great… cloud 9, over the moon great!!, then like a roller coaster ride, what goes up… must come down. Here’s the skinny on the not so great…
I came ready with pictures of the styling I like, the cut/​look I’m going for, and the color I wanted… I’ve had hack jobs in the past so I like to be prepared with exactly what I want.
Some of his questions were geared toward how I typically wear my hair. I let him know, sometimes in a bun or ponytail but mostly I have it down and styled, that I really like curls and had even been thinking about getting a digital perm to make life easier since I’m not too experienced with styling tools and usually use my flat iron to curl my hair. I mentioned this to him about 3 times. He said I needed to get a curling iron, that he’ll show me how to use it and give me some styling tips. Sounded good to me!
From the pics I showed him of the layered look I wanted, Alan said «oh, that’s easy» and he said he has something better that’ll give me more volume and make my hair look voluptuous, his signature chandelier cut. Sure! I’m in!
A few minutes into the cut he asked if I liked it. I told him that I loved the color and that my hair looks super healthy. He asked about the cut and I simply said that he had just started but so far so good. And at this point, it really did look good.
Toward the tail end of the cut he stopped to show me how it would look wash n wear before he curled it. At this point, the long layers looked great but the framing around my face still wasn’t finished as he was still cutting. So I was still pretty happy and looking forward to it being styled, getting some tips on curling and the framing of my face to be done.
Well, he started with the curling iron and sadly, there were no curls like we had talked about and like I had seen in so many beautiful pictures on Unilocal.All he did was add texture. Now I’m stuck with this curling iron that he sold to me with no idea how to use it since he didn’t show me as promised.
The grand total for this experience without tip was $ 376.97. Pricier than what the receptionist quoted me on the phone.
The most exciting part about going to the salon and making that investment is walking out feeling like a million bucks, receiving compliments and wearing your salon fresh hair for a couple days until you sadly have to wash it and try your best to replicate it.
Well, I didn’t walk out feeling that way and no compliments received.
The picture posted with this review is how my hair looked upon leaving the salon– nothing special.
And this is the BEST picture I could get. The hair around my face kept falling in my face. Not in an attractive, come hither way either. In fact I couldn’t wait to put it up or bobby pin it back so I’d feel less crappy about it.
If maybe he left the layers long around the face or did a side sweep style, I probably would’ve enjoyed the cut better. But it definitely didn’t turn out how I expressed I’d like it and from the pics I showed him. Not sure if that could be fixed or not at this point.
While the color, treatment, and service to start seemed promising… ultimately, the finished product didn’t live up to the hype.
Very expensive lesson learned.
Maybe my expectations were too high? But I feel like this would’ve been a 5-​star review had more attention been given to the «bang» area & had he actually shown me how to use this curling iron, leaving me confident about the product and service received.

Alan has been creating dazzling hair for me for 9 years. In my opinion he seems driven by his clients happiness and bringing out their best self. I don’t believe that his life would be nearly as fulfilled without accomplishing this feat with each head of hair. His passion for personal and business expansion is something that I’ve witnessed. In fact I am continuously impressed with this aspect. Alan seeks the newest hair design and innovation and travels/​hunts for this often. It’s fun to be the guinea pig as I have come to trust him completely.
The salon is beautiful and besides the typical services of a high end salon, you can expect to enjoy a full scalp and neck massage and Lemon Tea while you wait. LOVE.

This is the ONLY place I COMPLETELY trust with my hair. I love going to Sam he is so nice, precise, and amazing at what he does. All the workers there are so professional and does such a great job washing your hair and massaging your head. They never messed up on my hair color, and my hair always felt a lot more healthy after dying it than before I got it done! The only reason why I gave it a 4 star instead of a 5 is because the price is sooo expensive… especially for a poor college kid like myself. I only go here once or twice a year because I spend around $ 250 there whenever I go. I like to get a haircut and to retouch my ombré hair whenever I go. I usually stay there for around 3 – 4 hours. I guess thats what you really pay for, knowing that your hair is in the hands of the best hair professionals, their time, the atmosphere, and being treated like a queen for hours!

Love this place, worth every penny. To the girl who called Alan «Edward scissor hands on steroids,» bravo to that fitting description. He is a genius and executes with swift efficiency.
This review is long overdue, as I’ve been a client of Alan’s for about 5 years now. My commitment to Salon Blanc spans the Pacific Ocean (I live in SF now, but only get my hair cut at Salon Blanc). Alan’s haircuts and coloring jobs are amazing, as evidenced by the fact that I can only fly back to Hawaii once a year for a haircut and my hair looks great year round.
The true test? Working in the hospital at 3am, when I feel like death, my patients still complement my gorgeous hair.

I started coming here back in September of 2013 because my mother-​in-​law had recommended Moses. Moses was really great– I loved the way he cut and colored my hair. Unfortunately, when I tried to schedule an appointment with him in March of 2014 I was told that he no longer worked there but was referring his clients to Marissa. So, I made an appointment with Marissa and am so glad I did! I have been going to her ever since!
Marissa is the sweetest person ever! And she’s really good at what she does. She says that her speciality is color, but I LOVE the way she cuts my hair too! Haircuts with Marissa are $ 55 and totally worth every penny!

Joslyn is amazing! I have her do my hair EVEarY time I come home to Hawaii. She is amazing, always knows exactly what I want, and makes my hair look fabulous!

I have been super anal on how I like my hair because of how fine my hair texture is. I previously jumped around salon to salon to find that stylist that can hook me with the best hair cut. I tried it all from, home garage to high end salons. Don’t get me wrong they are all good but the attention to detail is what makes it for me.

I kinda cheated on Sam and recently went in to get an emergency cut for the upcoming Halloween festivities. I was nervous walking in but after getting a cut from Julia, she put in work !!! She went in scissors over comb and the outcome was a cool style I nvr had before. Its hella tight. This new fresh cut she gave me complements my face shape. I look like I lost weight lol.
I have a feeling any stylist here will definitely hook you up.

One of the best salon experiences I’ve had. My stylist did a phenomenal job with my hair on my wedding day. Another stylist did a great job on my husband (eek!). I’d definitely go back. Great salon.

Hands down the best place to get a hair cut/​colored/​styled! I love the guy that cut my hair/​colored it! I wished I remembered his name!!! And I wish I could bring him back to northern Va to do my hair forever! I scheduled an appointment for a hair cut only but he made time for me and squeezed me in last min for a balayage red hair coloring which was nice because I thought I didn’t have time to do! Even though my hair was being stubborn because of previously bad hair dyeing and the color didn’t lift very well and it wasn’t as bright as we wanted to be, I was still happy with the results. If I lived here I would defiantly come back!

After trying two other highly-​rated salons and being disappointed, I tried Salon Blanc. I should have gone here first. The vibe is contempo-​chic, yet friendly and inviting. My stylist was Mitch. She listened to what I wanted and looked at pictures of the preferred hairstyle I rocked when I lived in Orange County, CA. I can tell that Mitch is a perfectionist as she was totally focused during the cut. This is a something you want from your surgeon, your dentist, and yes, your hair stylist! Needless to say, she nailed it — and more. Probably one of the best haircuts and style I’ve had. I’ve seen some reviews on here speaking to the high price for a haircut compared to other salons or barbershops. I say you get what you pay for — and Salon Blanc is definitely worth the price of admission. Mitch is awesome and I will be a regular with her here at Salon Blanc.

So I’ve been coming here for the past 2+ years now, and unfortunately my thoughts about this salon have changed. I really enjoy coming here… the salon is nice, customer service is great, and Alan, my hair colorist really is an awesome person. However, I’ve noticed that a lot of the time I come in he is so busy and seems to be booked back-​to-​back with no time to fix errors or make my hair perfect. I mean, I hate to be a snob but I feel like if I’m paying this much for my hair color then it better be perfect. Alan definitely does great work as he is soooo talented, but I just feel like the quality and care that I received when I first started coming here has abated, more so because he seems to have clients immediately after me and has to attend to them.
Over the past 6 weeks I had several big events in my life… my brother’s wedding, then my bachelorette party in Vegas, and then my wedding day which was last weekend. I swear, I had to come in at least 5 times during this 6 week period to get my hair done and/​or fixed… and for hair color only! I do have to say that ²⁄₅ of the time they didn’t charge me, so I just tipped. But STILL! Why do I need to come back SOOO many times?
Let’s start from the beginning of this 6-​week period. When I got my hair color done, Alan highlighted my hair and it was SOOOO BLONDE. Yes, I love highlights but seriously, this was like barbie status… all over my head. He was really ecstatic and hyped up my hair like it was the most amazing thing he had ever seen, and I had this look on my face like, OMG… it’s sooo blonde. Then he even called over another hair stylist and said «OMG, isn’t this hair perfect???» And she answers, «ummm, yeah, it’s really BLONDE…» That’s all she had to say about it. Anyway, I really wanted him to redo it or darken it, but I felt like he was rushing me out of there so I didn’t know how to tell him I didn’t like it… especially since he was so excited about it. So then I figured I’d go home and maybe I’d get used to it. But NOPE, after a couple of days it was still blonde as ever. What also sucked was that I tried to get in during the next couple of days but because our schedules didn’t coincide I couldn’t get in until the week after, and I ended up going to my brother’s wedding with the super blonde hair. The following week when I went back and told him that I needed it darker and that it was just too light for me, he said, «I knew it. I knew you were thinking that.» But if you knew that, then why didn’t you fix it in the first place???
Over the next few weeks it was similar experiences and I still can’t believe I spent so much money and time coming back to get my hair redone. He did mention, though, that it took several steps because he had to get rid of the old color first and then redo the highlights, color, and that it was a process. So I get that. But I just wish that maybe we could’ve cut it down to 3 times, rather than 5, or something like that! Luckily after the 5^th time coming back I was finally satisfied with my hair, and it was a decent color for my wedding day. I do appreciate how meticulous he was during my last visit leading up to my wedding day, because he knew I was super stressed about my hair color for the wedding. I mean, I freakin planned my entire wedding and nothing else had stressed me out more than my hair color… that’s how bad it was. Anyway, he did reassure me that he knew what he was doing and that he would get it perfect in the end… which he did. But damn, it took so many times to get the color I wanted (basically dark brown with some highlights) and I had to come in 3 days before my wedding to get it darkened. I already had plenty of things going on during that time… working full time, dealing with last-​minute wedding stuff, and then I had various events with family/​friends that flew in from the mainland, etc. Prior to my last visit with him, I was so stressed about my hair that I contemplated just buying brown hair dye and dying my whole entire head over myself, but I figured all the work he put into it would be a complete waste. haha. Glad I didn’t do that.
Anyway, it felt like a whirlwind of events leading up to my wedding and the stress that I experienced because of my hair color is leaving me feeling a bit sour. I do admit, I love the color of my current hair… it’s pretty much how I envisioned it to be. But I think I need to take a break from this place for a bit, until my roots start growing out and I need to figure out my next steps for my hair color.

MIREI is the bet. Hands down. I have only gotten my hair cut twice in almost 3 years and I have seen her for both and for someone who is scared of getting their haircut. She makes it so easy I may go back 2x a year!
She helped me with my breakup hair too and took me from very very long (hair down to my butt), no layers/​movement and dark dark brown (my natural color) to a shorter, layered look (but let me keep some of my length) that is all kinds of amazing Browns and blondes and I couldn’t be happier. If you can dream it (or at least have a photo of it) mirei can make it happen. She has taken me from someone who was afraid of cutting and coloring their hair to someone who actually looks forward to it! I want to share her talent with everyone.
She is super flexible and works with me to squeeze me in, parking is free (or very reasonable, depending on the length of your visit) and mirei makes you feel so comfortable. Can’t say enough good things about her. Arigatou Mirei!

Mai did a terrific job of delivering exactly what I asked for: more natural blonde highlights in my dark blonde hair with weird colored roots from my last color visit. She accomplished in just one visit what my last stylist/​colorist couldn’t get right over several years.
The only negatives to this salon visit was (1) the ½-​hr wait after my scheduled appt and (2) the inconsistent customer service at the front desk (eg offered some customers drinks, but not everyone; etc) and (3) the high total when it came time to pay (over $ 200). I suggest discussing cost of service with your stylist upfront, which is something I failed to do.
Overall, I’m very pleased with the result and highly recommend Mai for natural blonde highlights.

I’m one of those people hair stylist hate. I go in for a cut because it’s necessary, but I don’t actually want my hair to lose any length… Impossible, I know. So I start with, I don’t want to go shorter. I don’t want layers (cause I’m growing them out). I don’t want it thinned out, cause it already thinning… But I want all my split ends gone.
I’m sure I seemed rude when we started, but it’s really important to know that if you chop off too much, I’ll be pissed lol.
Well, this was the first time in years someone listened. Mia, you’re amazing! Thuan (her helper)… You’re amazing too.
The wash, condition, massage and dry was just what I needed. Only after my hair was dry, did Mia cut my hair. Cutting it dry made it so she could see the ends. My hair feels better than it has in like five years. I never visit the same hair stylist twice, but this time I think I will.

Sega is an awesome colorist! He spent about five hours meticulously creating a very natural balyage. Had an awesome time talking to him he’s very down to earth and made me feel really comfortable because he listen to what exactly I had in mind. I highly recommend the salon!

Love, love, love Salon Blanc. My friend recommended I see Merei and Mai. Had my hair cut and colored by Merei and a brazillian done by Mai. This was a big deal people and when you see the photos you will understand. Really thick unruly hair to my butt and I asked Merei to chop it off. She did it. I think a few jaws dropped when she made the first cut but I could not have been happier. The place is spotless. They really take their time with you and listen to concerns. Love the product although there is no hard sell on anything. I really loved these ladies– they took me from sister wife to chic and I will be back.

I don’t trust a lot of barber or salons to cut my hair, but I trust Salon Blanc. Parking is in the garage, and it’s free on the weekends. The staff is very nice, once you enter they will ask if you want water, tea, or coffee. Just be sure to look at your drink to make sure hair isn’t there. Haha.
After you checking in, they will take you to put a mock on, some of the robes are hard to put on, so go for the button up one. Then they’ll wash your hair, and give a massage.
Overall the vibe is great, people from all around the island go here. Make sure you book your appointment 2 days in advance or you’ll get a time that might be inconvenient for your schedule. After your initial appointment, you’ll get a complimentary touch up that be used within the first 2 weeks for free for men only.
The only downside is that the price can be a little steep for anyone that’s used to a traditional barber or salon.

I’ve been coming here for years now and I’ve never had a bad experience ever!
The minute you step into blanc you already know that you’re gonna walk out looking sickening (it’s a good thing). You’re welcomed by a lofty space with a simple and modern décor with some trendy music. Of course, majority of the staff looks like they’ve been ripped out of magazines – hair on fleek & outfits on point! They start you off by having you change into a cute little robe, then give you the shampoo of your life! With every shampoo comes an intensely calming head massage that sometimes makes me feel so relaxed that I feel like I might just fall asleep with my head in the sink bowl.
Joslyn is the stylist that I always go to. She’s extremely personable and it’s obvious that she knows her $h?t. She always manages to make me feel like brad Pitt after getting up from her chair. The best part about her is that she teaches you step-​by-​step how to style it when you’re at home.
The price might be a little high here, but it’s worth every penny to feel fresh and sickening lol.
