A Plus Tree

Very unhappy with this business.
Poor communications. Like other reviewers, I had trouble getting them to return my calls.
They refused to honor their written bid after the permit process caused a delay in getting the tree cut. They agreed to honor their bid only after the City Arborist gave them a call.
They damaged my landscape. I had put down a layer of ¾″ plywood over pavers and ground cover under the tree to give them a place to drop the logs as they cut them. However, somehow they managed to break the branches of a very large juniper nearby. It is very slow growing and will take years to recover.
They almost broke a large ceramic sculpture by throwing a log down the slope from the tree. I was holding my breath as I watched the log fly by the sculpture missing it by 2 inches.
They left a mess of branches and debris on my roof and in the front garden.
At the time of the bid I was told they would cut the stump to almost ground level. Since the surrounding ferns would be able to cover it, I did not have them include stump grinding, for which there would have been an additional charge. However, they ended up leaving a 12 to 14 inch tall stump. I then had to pay another company, Julian’s Tree Service to make a special trip to grind it. Julian’s does not charge extra for stump grinding when they cut down a tree. I have since used Julian’s to do tree removal and stump grinding in my back yard and have been extremely happy with their work, their professionalism and positive energy.

Update– on Monday morning I got a call from Sara from their office apologize for the no show and no call. Sara took the time to walk this project through and called me several times to make it right. She offered me a discount for the issues I went through. We rescheduled for Tues afternoon and they did show up. Caesar showed up and we talked and he was very nice, knowledgeable and was very apologetic. They were detailed and knew what they were doing. He did a great job, quick and cleaned up when they were done. Neighbor came over and had Caesar stop by and get a quote for a job at his house. They only issue is they were to pull and grind a couple stumps but they did not bring the stump grinder. The office called me right after they left and scheduled them to come back tomorrow to come back and grind the stumps. I have to change their rating for the follow up they did and how apologetic they were. If I need another job, I would call them first and give them another try.

We met them at the San Lorenzo HOA landscaping event. We made an appointment for an estimate.
No show.
No call.
No bueno!

I had a sick tree. An Ash tree right next to the house and in a very narrow alley. I got several estimates, but the most reasonable estimate and the most responsive company was A Plus Tree Service.
(Llamas Tree Service was a close second.)
They came out and gave me an estimate, and when I approved their quote they came in and took the tree down in the most amazing fashion. The fellow worked between two houses, a fence, and an air conditioning unit — and took a very large tree out with no collateral damage. His performance in the tree was truly worthy of the Cirque du Soleil. Bravo!
They removed the trunk, they cleaned it all up, and the work was exceptional! I highly recommend A Plus Tree Service for your arboreal requirements.

All I can say is WOW! I’ve worked with quite a few tree companies and arborists, but my experience with A-​Plus was unlike any other. I didn’t know a tree company could be so organized and simple. I have been a colleague of the A Plus team for some time now. They are a company that not only cuts down your trees but they manage your forest! They help with plant fertilization, planting, pruning and removals.

Great job! A Plus removed five trees, ground out the stumps and replanted new Sweet Bay trees in my back yard at a reasonable price. They did an awesome job in a timely manner and removed all of the debris for recycling. They were a pleasure to work with; I would highly recommend this company for anyone looking to have work done on their trees.
Their Client Relations Rep and the Arborist were very knowledgeable and thorough when surveying my property needs and making recommendations for planting. They are appropriately named; I would rank them an A+. :-)

Our homeowners association, the San Lorenzo Village Homes Association, recently had over 30 trees trimmed on its office grounds. A-​Plus’ «A-​Team» were not only knowledgeable, but completed the work quickly and professionally. I recently was visited by Oakland Fire Department to have fire building clearance done on my home. A few days later, Niall, a really good looking arborist showed up and did a great job in no time at all.
All in all, I passed the clearance inspection later that month and my tree looks great!
Love A Plus, and hope I have more work for Niall to do at my house again :-)

I have two large live oaks that required pruning and one of the branches was actually touching the roof, so it had to be done right. I received bids from three different companies, and A Plus Tree was by far the most competitive.
I requested an estimate late Tuesday night, they called me Wednesday to confirm a time that worked for us the next day on Thursday, and Jeremy showed up 5 minutes before our appointment and politely waited in the car while I wrapped up with another bidder. Jeremy came out and walked around the property for 10 minutes pointing out what needed to be done and emphasizing that it would get done right. Jeremy is a certified master arborist and identified other trees on my property, which helped me later to make decisions about what do with those.
Bottom line: Jeremy doesn’t waste time. He knows what needs to be done and answered whatever questions I had, but for the most part he’s done this long enough to know what needs to be done and the price to make it happen.
I spent that Thursday afternoon comparing the three bids, called Jeremy to confirm, and they were out the following morning and took care of it in the time that they said that they would.
Nevertheless, A Plus Tree Service is a well run company that is competitively priced and worked hard for my business. What more could you ask for?

Totally agree with the other reviews. Had a large tree at my rental that had split in half and fallen, leaning into the neighbors yard! From the moment I called, the team at A+ Tree was ultra-​responsive, and made me feel like they appreciated the urgency I had at getting this taken care of. Was able to set a removal appointment very quickly, and the workers that showed up were just as quality as the rest of my experience. They were friendly, careful, and did an amazing job (in a reasonable amt of time!). I am SO glad I was referred to you guys – and will definitely be passing your name along to anyone in need! A Plus deserves their name! Every person on their team, from Sarah who prepared our estimate, to Rob the foreman, down to the last ground man gives meaning (and motivation) to writing a five star review. We had a complicated job — four large (60 to 120 foot) trees in a difficult to get to location; a job co-​funded by three homeowners and a non profit civic group; a noise sensitive renter occupying the closest property; a lot of landscaping adjacent to the worksite; a narrow passage to the street. We did our ‘due diligence’ and got three quotes. A Plus was both reasonable and competitive. Sarah’s knowledge and professionalism (how often to you find a UC Berkeley certified arborist fearlessly hiking a steep hillside in fashion worthy boots passionately talking trees) set A Plus apart, gave us a great feeling. We were not disappointed.
A Plus scheduled our job quickly, showed up on time, and went about their work efficiently. Their crew was extraordinarily polite, articulate, and conscientious of property and people. They took great care not to damage patios, decks, lawns, surrounding landscaping — or remaining trees. They worked unbelievably hard and every single employee seemed to really enjoy doing what they do. The job took longer than they anticipated, but A Plus honored their price (and even did extra, out of scope work for very reasonable amounts), never cut any corners, never worked hastily, and never compromised on careful attention to every detail. And — proof is in the ‘pudding’ — at the end of the job nothing was damaged, the renter never complained, the lawn looked untouched, the patio where much of the wood was staged looked cleaner than it was before the job, and the dead/​dying trees are gone. I cannot recommend A Plus more highly.

I contracted A Plus to remove and prune two large Palm tree in my front yard. A young super hot Arborist name Phil came to my house and walked me through /​educated me on all my trees (thanks so much Phil). The day of the job I talked to the foreman Rob in the morning and he walked me through the process of pruning and removing the Palm. He sure made me feel at ease and also gave me a education on trees. I left to go Christmas shopping and when I returned, everything was complete… My yard was cleaner then it was before they came. They also pruned Two of my small trees for me. Rob called me later in the day to walk me through everything he did and made sure I was 100% satisfied.

They did an amazing job of removing a ~100 ft eucalyptus right next to our house without any damage to our roof or the neighbors either (both less than 10 ft from tree). The are very skilled at what they do and were amazing to watch bring down limb after limb and trunk after trunk. I have had them back on two more occassions to prune the rest of our trees and treat one for a leaf sucking pest. Excellent work each time!

Excellent. Was on-​time for everything, even finished ahead of schedule. All the tree climbers/​workers were very professional and courteous. I hired them because I found out that nearly the entire staff were certified Arborists (… which was one of my main concerns/​request). They thoroughly cleaned my back yard up as good as it was when they arrived.
Would definitely give them an A+!!
