George and his crew were so very helpful in moving us from a vacation rental to a storage unit. They took great care in ensuring that our possessions were well cared for. They were very careful as not to do any damage to the furniture, nor to the rental or storage units. They also were very kind and considerate toward my family, extremely polite, and the crew was quiet as not to upset the neighbors. Moving can be stressful, but George and his crew at Midway made the process so much easier than I ever anticipated. I would definitely use Midway again, and furthermore, I would recommend them to anyone. When I need to move out of storage and into the next vacation property, I’m going to be requesting George and his crew.

Nobody is perfect, however, response times and aftercare have been great on all levels. The rates are competitive and the crews are as good as it gets, I can’t say enough about the feedback I have received…
Moving is always a crap shoot, but this group removes the doubt and has raised the bar!

They were truly amazing and made a stressful situation a whole lot less stressful than it would’ve been… I’ve used them before but this time I had to move on the fly… like 48 hr fly. They arrived on time had to deal with some crazy crappy weather at the end of March (hail, rain, snow, wind) parking was impossible (Lakeview) nearly a block away 15^th floor. I needed the boxes loaded in a certain way because I was moving to a temporary place and putting the rest in their new storage facility. They even had to return the next day due to my goofy building rules (same crazy weather). They finished quickly, the building engineer was quite impressed with how great they were in comparison to other companies. Later I had to go to the new storage facility to retrieve some things and they were very accommodating even fed and entertained my daughter while John helped me unload and reload boxes. Midway has been a great help at a really stressful time for me… will be using them again and recommending.

I had a bunch of stuff to move from Chicago to NW Indiana, and even though I probably could have (eventually) got it done myself, I’d heard good things about Midway so I gave them a call. They worked with me to find an off-​peak time to make the move as affordable as possible, which made using them a no-​brainer.
The real shocker was the service! Wow, I had no idea how much work was involved! These guys took care of everything, made sure not to track over my floors, covered all railings, etc to make sure nothing was damaged, and literally couldn’t have made it any easier. And my stuff arrived precisely when I’d requested. In addition, they kept me posted all along so I knew what was happening.
They had plenty of extra packing materials – which I ended up needing (even though they didn’t charge me for most of what I used!). In addition, they were really flexible and conscientious with some boxes of files I realized I didn’t need moved – they suggested I use their shredding service, and my lead move made sure to bring me the destruction receipt on the other end of the move.
What a smart investment! I got more value than I expected, and no worries. I’ll definitely use them next time.

I have used them twice before with good results. But this time, they needed to move me twice. Out of my place, into storage, then a month later into a new home. Broke the leg completely off my couch. Put two gashes on beautifully refinished antique dressers that were i pristine condition. Broke the ladder back off an antique chippendale dining room chair. All crew members pointed at each other when I pointed out something broken. «Hey man, I don’t know how that happened. But we’ll take care of it», they said. Well, they don’t take care of it. Midway refused to pay a penny in damages, saying that the there was no way I could prove that THEY did the damage. Believe me, my stuff was in perfect condition. The movers are careless and the head office doesn’t care at all about customer satisfaction. I will not use them again, or will I recommend them to a friend.

Do not use them! they wouldn’t even pay for damages per their coverage guidelines which were slim anyway. 40 cents on the pound. I had an expensive heavy couch and they wouldn’t give me anything for the tear in it! They broke so many items and wouldn’t cover a single thing! STAY AWAY

I made a huge mistake in thinking Midway Moving lost all of my winter clothes and had to update my review since I found my clothes in the basement where I store everything!
We moved in April and had Midway store all of our stuff for a month until we moved into our new home. The moving team we got was efficient, fast and professional. Nothing was broken or lost!

The entire team was very efficient and did a great job handling all the items! They were extremely calm, polite and friendly! Would definitely recommend them!

So I’ve used these guys a few times already for cross country moves. They got 2 stars because they never lost my stuff, but each time I used them something broke or got scratched. And even though each time I used them I payed for the insurance plan, I never saw a dime. They would say, «Oh, we’ll have someone come out and weigh the item to see how much you will be reimbursed, but never once did they have someone come out to do it.» I will not be using them again. Depending on the crew they can be pretty slow and careless, like knocking stuff into walls when moving it out of the apartment. Last move I had to tell a kid 2 – 3 times to be more mindfull and try not to hit the door frame, but then BAM (!) he did it again. Oh well… time to move on to another moving company.

If you want your things broken or some lazy movers then hire them.
We hired them because we obviously needed our things moved to our new house. The day of the moved they were 45 mins late. The older man was trying to negotiate a «tip» before he even began to move anything. They forced us to sign the documents or they would not be able to move our items. Since we needed to be out by that day we signed the document not expecting our things to be damaged. The movers were not able to get our furniture in the house, they shattered our tv stand, damaged our leather couches, and still wanted a tip.
Even after we gave them a tip, the gentlemen left and called us a few minutes later and said we never gave it to them.
We filed claims for all our items and all we got was $ 55 for damaging the leather sectional, not getting our items in the house, and shattered tv stand. According to them, we signed our «bill of arrival» and no claim was called in at the time of accident. This company DOES NOT care about their costumers. DO NOT HIRE THEM!!!

I was very happy with my movers! Orlando, Sam and Michael worked very fast and hard to move my things. They were also very pleasant to work with and worked around me as I scrambled to pack a few last boxes. There were some issues with the elevators at the building I moved from, but these guys worked around it as best they could. They quickly disassembled things that needed disassembled, wrapped what needed wrapped in shrink wrap, put everything that I had not already boxed in wardrobe boxes. All of my items went into a storage unit that I already had and already had some things in. Samuel was able to fit everything into the unit — which I did not believe was possible. When the time comes to move my things again, I plan to use Dwayne’s crew (Orlando, Sam and Michael) again!

I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint against this company. Do NOT use them. They will arrive late, take an exceedingly long time moving your belongings, and then will be completely callous when you express dismay with their service. Here are my issues with Midway:
Midway Moving & Storage, Inc.‘s («Midway Moving») arrived at my former home, loaded my belongings, and then unloaded those belongings at my new home. However, Midway Moving’s rendering of these services requires a rating of ZERO stars… alas, 1-​star is the lowest rating I could give. The quick and dirty: the movers were (1) exceedingly late in arriving to the job — they were over 4 hours late; (2) physically incapable of moving my belongings due to the movers’ physical ailments and the fact that my move was their second job of the day after a very long and tenuous day of another moving job; and (3) exhibited extremely poor customer service. These three issues will be explained in detail below.
1. Late Arrival
Midway Moving was scheduled to arrive at 1pm but did not arrive until after 5pm. Because they were so late, the company sent a third mover but charged us for this extra mover rather than attempt remedial measures that would make up for its tardiness by sending additional movers free of charge.
2. Physical Inability to Complete the Job on Time and Within Budget
Despite informing Midway Moving that we were moving from a third floor apartment with no elevator and that we had items in our first floor storage unit, Midway Moving sent movers that had visible physical ailments. One mover was an older man whose back was curved to such a point that he could not stand up straight. I often observed this mover rubbing his back and complaining of his back issues. Midway Movers then required these fatigued and aching movers to strap my belongings onto their backs to move down three flights of stairs, resulting in greater physical effort and time expended. I have hired other moving companies in the past and none of them have used these arcane and physically debilitating methods to move my belongings.
3. Poor Customer Service
When we complained to the manager, he expressed disinterest and a lack of empathy. He also did not make any attempt to resolve the slow service and severe lateness. Because the movers were so late arriving and were slow in moving my belongings, it took them approximately 4 hours to load the truck and then another 4 hours to unload. The movers themselves complained of the amount of work, moved slowly, took cigarette breaks, and all the while, we were on the clock.
The movers also explained the poor and fraudulent business practices of Midway Moving in the midst of complaining about the amount of work. The movers described that Midway Moving has frequently informed the movers the morning of that they had a particular moving job to complete and Midway Moving frequently sent less than sufficient workers to complete the job so that the customers would be backed into a corner to order and pay for additional workers. One of the movers also described that they were informed of my particular job just an hour before they arrived and that they were already running behind on a very large job that very morning. They were physically tired when they arrived to my home to move my belongings. I was moving from a two bedroom apartment. The only large furniture items that they had to move were a bedroom set. I also had multiple book boxes. This was not a large and overly-​strenuous job.
The movers did not finish at our new home until after 1 a.m., disturbing our new neighbors in the process. Because they did not arrive at our home until after 5pm and because we took the day off of work to handle our move, we also could not hire a new moving company. The estimate was for approximately $ 400. When they arrived, that estimate increased to approximately $ 650. By the time they finished, I paid $ 881. From the mouths of their own workers, Midwest Moving conducts business in a manner that is both fraudulent and below industry standards. I advised the manager while speaking to him over the phone of my severe dissatisfaction with the service and outlined all of the above issues during the beginning of the job. I asked him what could be done to resolve this already dismal situation. He simply replied that he could pull the workers from the job but that we would still be charged for the drive and other fees that had already been taken out of my credit card account.
Midway Moving represents the epitome of terrible service and their cursory response to my legitimate complaints (both on the day of the job and later to the BBB) is further evidence of why you SHOULD NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Midway movers were the best movers I ever had move me. They came right on time, were very professional and did an excellent job in moving me. They boxed all my art work properly and made sure everything was set in place before they left my new home. This company is A+++++.

DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY. Hands down, the worst company I have ever worked with. Under no circumstances trust Vince M. and his quotes. Due to slow movers, my move took twice as long as it should have (on top of them being 2.5 hours late) and I was charged DOUBLE the estimate I was given by Vince. He outright lied to me to get the sale and then I never heard from him again. His boss, Wayne S. could not have cared less about making things right or about my experience as the customer — that was when I could get a response from him. My movers said they deal with upset customers after EVERY move they do. That their salesmen always lowball estimates. Hello??? That is a huge problem and this place should have their license revoked.
If you spend time really researching them (I unfortunately did not do this), you will find the countless websites that list complaints — all stating the same things (slow, totally incorrect cost estimates, broken items, terrible customer service and movers that have the gall to fish for tips throughout the entire move). Which means this is what they do and how they operate. My bad experience and other people’s complaints are not flukes. I had a very easy move — moving a 1 bedroom apartment from a storage unit to an apartment literally 2 blocks away — no big/​heavy furniture. I had moved with my roommate a month prior using another company (Golan’s — Use them, they are AWESOME and I wish I used them for this move), and that move took an hour less and cost $ 100 less for a move that was double the size and a further move.
If you get nothing else from this review, please pay attention to these numbers:
— 37 of the last 40 Unilocal reviews slam the company and give them 1 star. The same complaints are listed by people: slow, totally incorrect cost estimates, broken items, terrible customer service, unprofessional
— C– on Better Business Bureau website and 39 complaints reported
— The Illinois Commerce Commission has tried to shut them down because of all the complaints.
— Their Facebook page lists many more complaints than positive experiences
These numbers do not lie and you will have the same negative experience if you choose them for your move. CHOOSE ANOTHER MOVING COMPANY. Midway does not deserve your money or to be in business anymore.

Horrible service. Movers arrived 4 hours late after being notified of our service extremely late by their own supervisors. I will never use this company again. Do not work with them. Extra costs and my move took until after 12am.

We love Midway Movers! This is our third move with them. We found them after we had a move from hell with a another mover. Today we moved out of our 2600 ft condo into a similar sized apartment. They sent us 6 guys and 2 trucks. We had them pack our kitchen and dining room (no small task!) and they got us all moved in 9 ½ hours. All of the guys worked super hard and as the final task they had to carry one of our couches up 19 floors because it didn’t fit in our building’s elevator. Kudos to crew leader Darrell and his whole team for an amazing job!

On Tuesday afternoon I got a call from a sales manager (Charles) at Midway Moving who told me that the truck I was expecting on that Thursday morning would NOT be here until sometime the following week.
It did not matter that I had contracted for the move six (6) weeks earlier and paid a big deposit. It did not matter that the Midway dispatcher had already called me to confirm the Thursday arrival.
And No, there was no discount because they would miss their confirmed date.
I’m not clueless. What mattered was that this sales manager could get a NEW customer’s revenue if he redirected the truck that was supposed to be mine. And he must have assumed that there was nothing I could or would do about it. The customer’s only recourse would be legal action and that wasn’t going to make the truck arrive in 36 hours.
The man did not even say he was sorry. He acted like he was rescheduling a car wash or tree trimming. It was absolutely no big deal to him. My impression was that they do this so much they are immune to the consequences to the customer.
He also told me that showing up a week late was considered being «expedited.»
If your moving dates are very flexible and you don’t mind last minute changes, then never mind. But if you need to be out of one place and/​or into another on the agreed upon date (s) then I recommend you continue checking Unilocal for companies with customer reviews that say the mover keeps their commitments.
Also, check other websites (including Twitter). I only looked at Unilocal.Now I know that a wider search would have given me more information about the business practices of Midway Moving.
