Although I didn’t end up using Joe’s service, he was very knowledgeable about bathroom remodeling. He even provided a number of suggestions for great tile and vanity stores that sell materials at a deep discount. Joe is your go to guy if you want someone with a deep knowledge and can offer insider tips for cost savings here and there!

JAK Built remodeled our bathroom a few years ago (see Keith P) so we didn’t even consider anyone else for our kitchen remodel. Joe helped us figure out what we wanted and got us a great deal on truly high-​end cabinets and such. His team even helped us find really beautiful countertops that mimicked the far-​more-​expensive stone we originally wanted. The crew was very nice and worked quickly – it was a complete gutting and they finished it in 3.5 weeks.

Last year JAK Built renovated the kitchen in my 1920’s vintage courtyard condo, and I was so pleased with their work that I used them again this year for a more modest renovation of my two full bathrooms. Joe and his team repaired/​replaced drywall, painted, installed new medicine cabinets and light fixtures, moved electrical outlets, and added new shower heads and hand-​held showers to both baths. They also installed new tile floors right over the old ones, which were discolored from age but otherwise in good shape. Their work was performed in a timely manner, on budget, and, best of all, allowed me to update without sacrificing the vintage look I love. The new tile floors, the biggest part of the project, were installed meticulously, and Joe even found a way to integrate the existing wall tile and the new design. Joe was always responsive, knowledgeable, and available throughout the project, supervising the work and even offering design suggestions based on his extensive experience. Joe and his team definitely merit 5 stars for staying on time and on budget, while at the same time making the renovation process as pleasant as possible. This project was a total success.

I hired JAKBuilt to redo my main bath in June of 2013. They were very punctual in their arrivals and knew exactly what needed to be done. The project was finished (basically) on time. There were a few small items that needed to be seen to later, but this was all taken care of without me requesting anything. Everybody who worked on this project was very conscientious and pleasant to work with. Thanks, Joe! I would definitely recommend this group!

As far as I’m concerned, Joe can do no wrong. A couple of months earlier I bought a new place in Andersonville and it needed some serious remodeling. Without hesitation I called Joe, the owner manager of JAK Built. A few years back in my former place he remodeled my bathroom so it was a no brainer to again hire Joe to remodel 2 bathrooms and a kitchen. Besides being a great designer, Joe is fun to work with and easy going. His crew of two or all purpose handymen are also competent and nice. Finally, Joe even went beyond the work we had agreed upon for no extra charge. He is an all around good guy.

We needed complete remodeling, changing a bathtub area into a shower. Joe & his team handled everything professionally and quickly. They were in and out in less than two weeks. The effort was a bit pricy (roughly $ 7500 I believe, including additional materials) but well worth it.
We would use Jak Built again for any large projects.

I used Joe to do my kitchen Although I rarely saw him I saw his workers Manuel and Jeff They did a great job which took forever Joe would drop them off only for a few hours and pick them up. When an issue arose he became very unprofessional and hostile on the phone There was always something about him that I did not trust. Definitely no customer service with him

I contracted with Joe to remove a badly installed tub liner, replace the surrounding tub tile, and refinish the tub once the liner was removed. I was very impressed with not only the quality of the work, but the level of communication throughout the process. Everything stayed on schedule, and the final cost was very close to the initial estimate. This was definitely one of those instances where you get what you pay for, and I would say it was well worth the investment.

Joe and his helper Manuel did a great job for me. They were polite and accommodating to my needs (I needed to get a small closet remodeled before my child was born a few days later.) Joe was able to move his calendar around to squeeze my 2 day project in and used Sat as the starting day. The proposal was reasonable and I am very satisfied with the quality of the final product. They basically created a new wall around my closet, added electricity to the area, and flooring. All for a reasonable price. Looks great!

Joe recently completed two bathroom remodels for my condo and I am very pleased with the final product. He is a very pleasant person to work with, which is something you dont see often with contractors, atleast once they start on that job. If there is any advice I would have for people, it would be to be very clear what you want. He did miss a few things like choosing the wrong toilet, but he also fixed the issue without having to be hounded, which is all you can ask for.
Joe is responsive to texts and phone calls, also something unique among contractors. I would definitely use him again for my home improvement project. Thanks Joe!

I will break down my review into several components. This review is based upon a bath add-​on to my bungalow attic space which was already finished.
If possible, I would give zero stars.
Safety: 0⁄5
Construction was started with complete disregard to electrical and structural codes. He wired as add-​ons to existing wiring without creating separate terminal breaks, he notched floor joists which is 100% unacceptable by building codes and when confronted he had no answer. I had to hire separate contractors to bridge the floor joists and rewire what he had ruined.
This is the most important thing to me. I just imagine if I hadn’t known the code and had someone die because of a weakening of floor joists would be tragic.
Cost: 1⁄5
This is partly from the mistakes listed in the safety portion above, but overall for the quality of work (mid grade) and the repairs and initial cost I paid, this is no value.
Quality & Knowledge: 2⁄5
Remodel: 3⁄5
His ability to remove existing products and replace them with updated is satisfactory. Not bad, but nothing special. Standard mid-​grade quality with some unlevel surface areas, marks in walls and minor blemishes.
Other Quality: 0⁄5
This is in reference to perform completely new plumbing, electrical, strucutral work or the ability in anything but remove and replace.
Other people have had much luck in remodeling which as I said, he can perform adequately. Anything beyond that is 100% unsatisfactory.

We couldn’t be happier with out new bathroom. JAK Built worked closely with us to plan it, worked around our schedule, and got it done beautifully and quickly. (And at a very reasonable price.) I would highly recommend Joe and his business and look forward to working with him again.

I had Joe do a total remodel of my bathroom.
Joe was extremely professional from start to finish. He always showed up on time and followed through with everything that he said he’d do. It was evident to me that he made his best attempt to manage expectations as much as possible and to minimize surprises, which is probably the most stressful part of projects like these.
Like all projects, there were some hiccups, due to issues uncovered during the remodeling process and misunderstandings. The first issue was the discovery that the bathtub was not installed properly when I bought the loft 10 years ago, resulting in the need to remove it, purchase a new one, and install it in the same place. This resulted in a $ 1300 increase in costs within the first 2 hours of the project’s inception. When I told him that I was very budget conscious, however, he was very sensitive to that for the remainder of the project and made a concerted effort to conserve resources as much as possible. The second issue was the tiling on the bathroom floor. When I told him a wanted a brick design for the tiles, he had only done it for the walls and not the floor. He took accountability for the misunderstanding by not only admitting that he made an incorrect assumption, but he also took out the tiles and redid them, even though it took a lot of extra time. Though at first he wanted and advised to leave the old design as is, it was important to him that I was happy with how it turned out so he proceeded to redo it, even though I told him he could leave it if redoing it would potentially cause other problems. He has a lot of integrity and is definitely very trustworthy, which is hard to find in this business.
All in all, I think he did a great job, especially considering that I was 2,000 miles away for the entire duration of the project and had minimal direction from me. I would definitely recommend!

The guy who helped me out, Joe, was simply spectacular! He really knew his stuff as he helped me with a bathroom and kitchen remodel. They did the demolition, helped me pick out the tile and other supplies and then installed everything the correct way (the first time). We came in on budget and more importantly, on schedule. I had family coming into town the next week so needed for this project to be done. Trust Joe, he knows what he’s doing and really saved me lots of money!
