Kristin Waxing

I waited over a month to post this review so I could calm down and not report them just out of anger. I have been going here for two years, and over the last 6 – 8 months or slow, Kristin has gotten extremely sloppy, unprofessional, and the worst — unsanitary! Over time it became worse and worse, but I kept coming back because of the cheap pricing on Tuesday and Wednesdays and because I have been going to her for so long, I kept giving her the benefit of the doubt. I will just list things that have occurred over time:
1. Kristin became very rude to me. She would tell me to «stop complaining» (her specific words were: «next time, don’t complain») when she missed a whole patch on my bikini area.
2. Kristin got wax all over me everytime. When I would stand up at ask for a cotton ball with oil to remove the wax, she turned around all frustrated and would grab the oil bottle and just poor it all over my hand, which then was just all over the floor. Unfortunately this happened almost everytime,
3. Her husband sits in front of the waxing room, so when Kristin opens up the door when your lady parts are just hanging out (uncovered, because of course she doesn’t give you anything to cover yourself), her husband can see.
4. She ALWAYS missed hairs. She would get tweezers to get «the strays» but never got them.
5. The wax was always too hot and burned me many times, nor did she care when you told her either.
6. Now this is THE WORST of all… the very last time I went there… I looked up and noticed Kristin was continuously DOUBLE DIPPING the same stick into the pool of wax. That is the most unsanitary process any waxing salon could do. It was right at the end when I noticed. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough! I set my money on the counter and left.
I see now that this place is closed, and I sure hope it is closed for good. I’m sorry Kristin, whatever happened over the past 6 – 8 months has ruined you and your business. I hope no one ever contracted any infections when you became sloppy and unsanitary. It broke my heart that I had to leave after all this time, but there were way too many practices that were unacceptable.
I recommend anyone to stay away from here, if they open back up.

Have been going to this place for years and they never disappoint! It’s nice to be in and out in 20 – 30 mins tops and they KNOW what they are doing. Sometimes they open alittle late (it happened to me twice) but that’s my biggest complaint. They remember you and on Tuesdays (and maybe Wednesdays), it’s a $ 30 special for bikini waxes for women! That’s a price in this city that’s hard to beat! Remember to bring cash

She did an awesome job and there’s a deal on Mondays brow and lip 12 bucks love it! Only complaint was the was was hotter than I think I’m used to

I’m not one to generally write a bad review but very disappointed. Didn’t listen to what I wanted (not entirely sure she understood what I was saying) and didn’t do a good job — not even the basics of getting eyebrows symmetrical and even. I’m gonna hv to live with this till it grows out. NOT going back EVER!

Quick and without fuss. She uses baby powder in case people aren’t used to that (this is for Brazilian waxes).

I have been going to Kristin’s for years, and love it so much that I make the very long commute from the West Loop to continue coming here.
To address some of the comments in the other negative reviews, there are two women who work here– Laura (long hair, orange room) and Kristin (short hair, apple room). I was just in last week with Laura and noted that there was NOT any double dipping going on! I didn’t notice Kristin doing it last time I saw her, but then again, I wasn’t paying attention. Also, both ladies are very interactive– if you ask what they are doing or about to put on you, they will explain what it is and why they are using it, and you can decline it if you so desire.
That said, here are some helpful hints from a seasoned regular:
— Tuesdays are the best days to go because it’s «Ladies Day» and their prices are unheard of low (like, $ 30 for a full Brazilian). Be aware– CASH ONLY for these discounts!
— In my opinion, Laura is the more thorough waxer. It’s cleaner, less painful, and lasts a little longer than when Kristin does it.
— Last appointment is usually 45 minutes before close. Don’t expect to walk in 5 minutes before closing time and be taken in.

Has everything I look for in an eyebrow waxing salon! Great prices, friendly staff, very quick service and prime location! Monday is I believe $ 7 eyebrow wax (UNHEARD-​OF PRICE!!) and Tuesday is Lady Day, great deals!

I went to see Kristin for a Brazilian wax. She is super convenient to where I live and has good reviews. I just moved to the area and the place I used to go for waxing is now too far. She is a very sweet woman and has excellent pricing but this is by far the absolute WORST waxing experience I have ever had!
Kristin rushed the entire process… she didn’t even allow me the courtesy to undress and dress in privacy. She burst in the room and began the process before I even laid down.
I’ve had multiple Brazilian waxes before and this was definitely the most painful. When she was finished my skin was very red which is normal but I was in severe pain. I had to apply ice for multiple hours. It has been about 24 hours since my waxing and I’m still in a lot of pain! Not to mention, there are bumps everywhere! I look like I have severe razor burn. I thought the point of getting waxed was to not to have razor bumps!!!
Besides the intense discomfort I’m experiencing, Kristin missed lots of hair! Going to her was a waste of time, money, and pain! I will not go back to her ever. You get what you pay for and I would rather spend $ 90 on a wax then go back to Kristin!

I called Kristen’s Waxing this morning to book a last-​minute appointment for a brow and bikini wax based on good reviews on Unilocal.My one-​star review is in no way based on the service Kristen provides, since I did not experience it.
I live very nearby and called ahead to book an appointment. A woman answered the phone who, I would come to understand, has a very rudimentary understanding of English. I asked if there were any openings today and that I needed a brow and bikini wax. She asked when I wanted to come in. I said that I was very close and could be there in five minutes or whenever there was an opening. She said, «Okay, you can come.»
So I did a few quick chores and went over there. When I came in, there was a woman (presumably the one I spoke with this morning) and a man who was on the phone. She asked if I had an appointment, and I said that I just called. She said, «Oh, okay.» I sat down.
After a few minutes the man got off the phone and kept apologizing to me for the misunderstanding. What misunderstanding? «Kristen is not working today.»
Whatever. I don’t have time to mess around with people who don’t know when their employer is open for business. There are other choices nearby, and I’ll be going to one of them from now on.

After seeing the great stars for this place and in desperate need to separate the olé uni, I called and made an appointment for the next day at 1030am. They open at 10am but don’t take their first appointment until 10:15 per their website. I arrive at 10:25 to locked doors and no lights on. I wait ten minutes, thinking that surely someone will arrive at 10:30. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Pissed and hairy, I leave and find someone else do were actually open and did a fantastic job.
What a shame, I live 3 minutes away from here but and now I must return to my old waxer (who I have absolutely no complains about except it’s a 20 min drive)

I never leave reviews but I’ve been looking for a good place in the city to get a bikini wax and now that I’ve finally found it I want to help anyone else out who was also in my predicament.
I’ve never had such a pleasant experience getting a bikini wax. It was the quickest and most painless wax I’ve ever endured. And the girls there are so nice. I had Kristen and she was awesome.
I should also mention that I had to call to change my appointment twice today (because I had to stay late at work), but they were very accommodating. Didn’t make a big deal about it at all.
And Tuesday, Ladies’ Day = $ 30. For any sort of bikini wax. Can’t beat that!
Finding parking is kind of annoying but you just have to look in the vicinity (and that’s not their fault, ha ha).
5 stars because it really is the best place to get it waxed, Ladies!

Good option for $ 30 wax in cash on Tuesdays. Friendly professional service. Wax took a little longer than I expected. Remember to remove shoes in the front. She takes walk-​ins.

I went here for the first time yesterday and had a great experience. It was clean and Kristin was professional, quick and efficient. I highly recommend Kristin!
I’ve had other wax services at fancy spas and it took forever and the individual did not seem like she new what she was doing so the whole experience was long and and painful.

BEST WAX. I’ve had a lot of Brazilian waxes in my life thus far and Kristin is amaaazing. She’s quick, has 16 years of experience and knows exactly what she’s doing. In love with Kristin.
Oh and Tuesday’s a full Brazilian is $ 30. Would’ve been nice to know before going on Monday, but that’s ok! Cuz she was so good!
Btw, this review comes after my experience at a waxing spa/​salon where the same wax took over an hour.

I decided to give this please a try since its very close to my house, the reviews were good and it was cheaper than most places with comparable reviews.
I made an appointment for a Brazilian on a Saturday. I showed 5 minutes early and no one was up front to check me in. There was another woman waiting as well. The woman came out 10 minutes later and asked what we were having done, I told her and the other woman was having her eyebrows done with no appointment. The lady asked if she could take the other woman first since it was quicker… That’s annoying. What’s the point of making an appointment if others without one will go first?!
The place is clean and bright. Unfortunate, the waxing experience was not very good. First, it was more painful than my other places I’ve been. Second, she used baby powder, which I am not a fan of. Next, she used 1 stick for the wax the entire time! Gross! She was quick but that’s the extent to the positive. The double dipping alone will keep me from going back.

The waxing services I received here were good. Although some spots were missed, but I would have to say that it was my fault.
The lights are very bright in here and everything looked brand new and squeaky clean.
Not busy in the mornings, which is what I prefer when going to places.
Prices are reasonable compared to other places that I checked out before coming to this place.
The prices on the website are incorrect, seems like the prices went up a couple dollars.
I would definitely come here again.
The lady didn’t try and have a conversation with me, which I’d prefer.

I’m sad I didn’t notice this place a year ago when I moved into the neighborhood. The owner, Kristin, is very friendly. It is obvious she has years of experience because she did such a great job and in a timely manner.
I don’t think you will find a more reasonably priced waxing place in East Lakeview.

What a find! I decided to check this place out because it was conveniently located close to my job and it turned out to be a goldmine.
I have been to so many places and have had a range of experiences. At Kristin Waxing I’ve had the pleasure of having Laura do my Brazilians and she’s been so careful and sympathetic to my nerves. Yesterday I experienced the famous Kristin and she was so quick! It wasn’t pain free because that’s impossible, but she made sure I was cracking up the entire time so that I wouldn’t think of the pain. I had tears coming from my eyes because I was laughing so much.
The price on Tuesdays is great because if you go to some fancy spa you end up paying over $ 50. This place is clean, they never double dip, and they are super sweet so why do I need some super fancy spa? I ended up missing the Tuesday special because I was too much of a wimp but the regular price is totally reasonable.
When I left Kristin gave me a big hug and kiss and I am looking forward to the next time I go. Can’t believe I’m saying that!

Kristin Waxing is awesome. The Tuesday «Ladies’ Special» makes this a reasonable monthly cost. I’m surprised to hear any bad reviews. I’m assuming that the bad reviews are from beginners and princesses. If you’re looking for a glamorous slow jam playing spa, then go to a spa and be prepared to shell out some dough. I’d rather drop trou and get it over with. Both ladies are gentle and polite. They get in and out like lightning. There is no talking. They will help you with your coat and walk you to the door. The boys could learn a few things.
OH! If you go on Tuesday for the special, the cha cha cha is included. Make sure you let her know if you want that done.

This place is really close to my house, so I strayed from my other preferred salons to give Kristin Waxing a try — can’t beat it for location (well, if you live in my building!) They do take walk-​ins, so I only had to wait a few minutes as a girl walked in just ahead of me.
It is definitely quick and no-​frills. You don’t even go in a separate room (well obviously you do if you’re getting a more private area waxed!), but for brows you just sit in a reclining chair about 20 feet from the waiting area, and in full view. The waxer did not introduce herself so I do not know if it was Kristin herself or another person. They use the paper strips as opposed to hard wax, but I find places that do hard wax to be a lot harder to find these days.
She did a great job on the shape — it looks elegant and very neat — I did pluck maybe 3 hairs when I got home. They don’t use one of those high-​powered lights to really shine on the brows, so I’m guessing that’s why a few strays got missed. She did a little mini-​rub on my temples and eyes afterward, which freaked me out since I wear hard contacts and she quite literally put her thumbs on my closed eyes and pressed — if you don’t want that to happen, say so first. I don’t know, I just missed some of the little touches of other salons. I like it when after the wax is ripped off, the waxer presses down on the skin to try to alleviate some of the pain. I also like being in a private room.
None of that really matters much though. Like I said the shaping was great, and it was only $ 13. The thing is that my skin was red for… kind of a while. Like all night. And I don’t have sensitive skin. And since then I’ve broken out between my eyebrows and above each brow. That’s really unusual for me — only once have I ever had a bad «reaction» like that to waxing, years ago, and I’ve been to plenty of different salons. It happens so rarely that I don’t think it’s «me,» you know? I mean, it’s not horrible, but I’m going to return to places that I know work well for me and my skin — Sejour on Irving Park, and Wax by Eva downtown. Worth the commute and a few extra bucks to have no redness or mild breakouts after.
I will say most people have not had this experience and people seem to have great waxes here, so I’d say if you have never broken out or had really red skin after a brow wax — try Kristin Waxing. If you have a history of sensitive skin or if you prefer a more «salon-​like» atmosphere, try my other preferred joints.
