Cathy is a second generation Campbell business owner who has built a solid reputation as a quality Heating and Air Conditioning contractor who works with quality home builders specializing in new construction/​remodel. Residential Heating has provided the Heating, Cooling, Air Cleaning and Ventilation scopes on countless LEED and «Build it Green» Green Point rated projects throughout the South Bay. Cathy has now established a retail division dba Residential Energy Pros to offer these same high quality heating and air conditioning systems for homeowners as well as other Energy Upgrades including quality insulation installation. Cathy is a Certified Green Building Professional and Green Point Rater Advisor. These guys are either too busy or don’t really care about business. They don’t call back, they don’t follow up, and they don’t communicate.
They actually put in the heating system we now have when we did the house remodeling in 2012, based on the general contractor’s choice. They had put in all the need work necessary to add A/​C later at that time.
I called them on 6⁄3 to ask for an estimate for installing now adding the A/​C. The person answering the call said yes, she did find our old records and that she would pass it onto someone to call me back.
3 days passed and no call back, so I called again on 6/​7, this time they got Kevin to speak on the phone, and he made an appointment to come out and look, and the appointment is for *9* days later, on 6⁄16. Kevin did come out and looked around and pronounced that it would be an easy, straight forward job, and he would send an estimate forth with.
It is now 6⁄21 late afternoon, yet another 5 days later, no phone call, no follow up, no email, no estimate. Nada. What confidence are we supposed to have that they would actually keep their word for the project?

2 – 3 years ago had Residential change Blower, Heater and then complete air conditioning unit. Over $ 5K spent.
Today called to have a possible Freon addition for our A/​C. Shocked to hear that just to visit and look at the unit…$ 150 !! This does not apply to any work done. So you are out $ 150 before the work even begins!!! Ridiculous!!! Will not call them again.
Additionally complicated answer on how to fix the problem… with an open end estimate !!!

These guys are SUPER. I came across them when our Bryant evolution Thermostat (High efficiency) malfunctioned and since it was under warranty I needed a replacement part. Thsi was last winter during our very cold nights. All heating specialist were booked for weeks. The first company I called, took the serial number, said they would order me a replacement, scheduled me for 10 days out and came on site with a regular thermostat. I was so mad that I picked up the phone and called the vendor and told them they should take these idiots off their list. They gave me Residential Heating number and said they were the gold partners and gave me their phone number. I called in, gave them the serial number and they got my replacement thermostat the next day. But as I had expected, they couldn’t install it for another 10 days. We had already been without heater for 10 days, another 10 with guests coming to stay was unthinkable. Since we couldn’t keep the house warm with space heater at all. So when I went to pick it up, I ask if someone could show me how to install it. One technician, called Bob, took me to their demo room and walked me through the whole installation. I told him that something else had happened when some friend tried to fix it by connecting red and white wires on the thermostat. He suspected that we had blown a fuse on the high efficiency furnace. He gave me one tiny fuse and again walked me through changing the fuse step by step and made sure I understood how to turn the electricity off to the furnace before I did anything. He checked to see if he was free to come over himself, but turned out he was booked, so he told me it was ok to call him if needed and I went home to follow his instructions. An hour later, the furnace was up and running. I couldn’t be more great fun. What impressed me was the fact that they had a demo room and highly trained tehcnicians who were professional and friendly. I will use them again when needed.

Thee guys have changed our lives. We had a problem with our AC keeping up with temperatures over 85 and our upstairs was ALWAYS hot in the summer. We had air coming out of our outlets!..
I just had Residential Heating and AC install a new unit for me, seal my ducts, and run a second line to my master bedroom and it made a world of difference! We don’t have leaking air any more, the house stays cool, and we can actually sit outside while AC runs because it’s so much quieter! It is seriously life changing!
I would definitely recommend Residential. They were some of the best customer service I have experienced and obviously did an outstanding job.

I’m trying to get AC added to my central heating system and Residential was recommended by my general contractor. Nick came out to look around and no-​quoted. He gave me a laundry list of what was wrong with my property but wouldn’t talk about trying to fix them, nevermind do the job I was actually interested in getting quoted. Maybe he thought that because of my location, or the fact that I have a modular construction, that I wouldn’t be willing to shell out the money to get everything performing properly. Or maybe he just didn’t want to work in my neighborhood. He told me that my furnace was lousy (modular construction typically uses mobile home furnaces), but didn’t talk about what it would take to update or replace it. Said that poor airflow in one room would prevent installing AC, but three other HVAC contractors (and my own engineering expertise) say that its just a matter of selecting the right tonnage to avoid backflow (and by the way, the poor airflow in that room was due to nothing more than a dirty vent as discovered by one of his competitors). He did follow up with some additional information, but when I move to my next place they won’t be on my list of HVAC contractors to talk to.

I didn’t use Residential for the final job, but I’m writing a short review about the quality of their quote. Needless to say, it wasn’t good.
I received quotes from 4 places in total, and Residential’s quote was a whopping 80% higher than the highest of the other 3, for *less* work than what a couple of the others were including. Certain portions of the job were quoted at more than double the cost of other places, and there didn’t seem to be any listed justification.
The quote itself was not well itemized compared to most of the quotes for most of the jobs I’ve had done over the years (I don’t just want summary prices, I want what you’re charging me for each thing… other places can do this…).
They were relatively communicative, just not competitive in the least.

We can’t be happier with Residential Heating and Air and the team that worked on installing our Mitsubishi heating and air units. The first visit to our home by Nick Mott was the reason why we decided to choose Residential. Besides his thoroughness and knowledge of the Mitsubishi units, he was very accommodating to our needs. Chris VanLoon, the project manager of the installation was excellent. He managed his team extremely well. We had a unique situation in one of the rooms in our home which has an adobe wall and hanging a Mitsubishi unit on the wall was going to be a problem, but Chris came up with a smart solution and we were thankful with his ability to resolve issues when they would arise. The install technicians were very good as well! They showed up everyday on time, they were meticulous with their work and cleaned up after each work day. They worked extremely hard to get this done. Our house was not the ideal install with the cramped attic space and adobe walls, but they made it work. We are so pleased that we chose Residential Heating and Air and would highly recommend them to our friends and family. Thank you so much for the great quality of work!

Even though we have not yet compared the past PG&E bills, what matters is we feel warm and cozy in our home. The temperature stays constant. December-​January will be a good test but we are already happy and satisfied customers :)

We just had mini-​split ductless air conditioning installed in our second floor. Because we are so happy with the result, we thought we would share a recommendation. Normally we just open windows and avoid the upstairs until they cool later into the evening, but we wanted to be able to fully utilize the rooms at any time. So we did a lot of research into solutions and installers and are very happy with our choice. Because heat rises, installing a whole house air conditioner to use the existing ductwork would not solve the problem.
We installed a Mitsubishi mini-​split («mr slim») ductless system with 3 heads, one in each bedroom, and one 3-​port external unit, all connected by a very neatly run conduit under our eves. They cool in the summer, and heat in the winter. They are highly efficient because the compressor runs at variable speeds and cools just the rooms individually that need it. They are extremely quiet. A «head» is installed in the bedrooms that have a fan and utilize the compressed coolant sent from outside. You just hear a hush of the fan running, and the models we chose have a whisper mode that is barely audible. The outside unit is surprisingly quiet, sounds quieter than a large fish tank when running full, and less when just maintaining temperature.
We thoroughly researched and got quotes from 4 installers. We are thrilled with the installer we picked (Residential Heating & Air Conditioning /​Energy Pros). The install is a work of art, they are very friendly, and responsive. I was worried about how neatly it would be run and was very particular about how nicely I wanted it, and this company really delivered. It is a work of art. My sales contact, Nick, was very helpful and responsive. The install team (they have multiple) was led by Jesse and did a stellar job, above and beyond my expectations. I even talked with one of the owners when I called the office to get a second opinion about a choice we were making and he was very friendly and responsive to quickly resolve. They are one of the larger installers around, they have been around a long time, public records show they pulled significantly more permits than the other 3, have little or no complaints, award from Angie’s List, worked with us to nail down all of our detailed questions until we were content, and we had strong confidence they would do the job very well.

Not sure about their work. But their quote was 30% than the average quote from well reviewed other 5 * installers. They were literally the most expensive. Their quote write up and such looks pretty professional. But 30% difference inspite of them getting better pricing for certain manufacturers?

With the first hot day of the year we wanted to run our 12 year old Bryant air conditioner. It ran for about an hour and then tripped the circuit breaker. Bryant’s website listed Residential Heating and Air Conditioning and indicated they were well qualified. I was fearful the compressor might be beginning to fail. When the technician showed up two days later he quickly saw it was simply an old capacitor that was leaking. He replaced the capacitor and I can happily survive hot days.
I was so happy with the service call I signed up to have the a maintenance performed on the whole system, the first in 12 years. The furnace and the A/​C system was thoroughly examined, tested and cleaned. No problems were found.
If I have problems in the future with my aging system I know who to call.

After an engergy audit by
it was clear that our duplex was in need of a major energy overhaul. The audit revealed that the ductwork was not sized appropriately also the furnace/​AC in smaller unit was very old and had to be replaced. Cathy at Residential provided a quote based on the energy audit recommendations. The project included a new furnace/​AC in the smaller unit, new water heaters (both units), hot water pipe insulation, building sealing, the insulation and new ducting throughout both sides of the duplex. They also changed the size of the registers in our living room (which now actually retains heat!) and weather stripped the doors using a very effective technique This was the best investment we ever made, I could not believe the difference in the PG&E bill. The Residential team was great, very professional and experienced. I wish we did this 10 years ago!

A year ago, the guys from Residential came out and analyzed my home. They put a blower door on my house and inspected it for leaks etc. They did the same thing for my furnace duct system and inspected my heating and air-​conditioning system. They then came back with a full report including suggestions for what I should do for my home to increase efficiency and comfort.
We were looking to increase the comfort in our home and save a little $$ while we were at it. Let me tell you it worked: Our drafty home is a thing of the past.
After we selected what work we wanted done, a full crew returned to fix us up. The guys went into our crawlspace and attic and did a really good job of sealing everything we asked them to. They ran a blower door during the job and brought our house up to the minimum leakage allowed without being required to add a fresh air handling system. We plan on going «all the way» when we replace our HVAC, which we will do with Cathy’s company once our system gives up the ghost.
We also had them add extra insulation under the floor of the room that was most drafty. That room was easily 10° colder in the winter and warmer in the summer than the rest of the house. We used to have to close the door on that room because the climate was so different. Now that the work has been done, we hang out in there no problem.
Please do the energy audit before you install PV electric or any other energy upgrades on your home. I wish I had known about them during my remodel 5 years ago. They are like CSI for your home and it would have been easier and cheaper to make all of their energy improvement recommendations all at once.

My home furnace stopped working a few weeks ago, and the good reviews on Unilocal lead me to Residential Heating. I called, left a message and got a call back to schedule an appointment the next day.
The technician was prompt, quickly found the problem and explained the repair options. He also inspected the furnace and did not find any other problems, even though the unit is approaching 20 years old (which he confirmed by the model number). I felt that he gave an honest opinion on the repair and didn’t just try to sell me a new unit.
The part had to be ordered, so he had to come back in a few days. I had to pay for the initial service call and then a second fee for the installation of the part two days later. I guess if can’t expect them to carry parts for a 20 year old unit with them in their truck.
One negative is that I asked for a quote on a new furnace, but the company never followed up with me with an estimate.
