Tamara is a wonderful waitress! She made our trip even more fun! We highly recommend this restaurant!!!

Service was very good but I had the Worst ropa vieja I have ever tasted. Super Expensive for what they offer.

Saturday 10:30pm. Restaurant full and we didn’t have reservations, and the block party out front in La Placita was getting good. Three of us sat at the bar and enjoyed really amazing service and Cuban food. We all had the ropa vieja. Amazing. My margarita was one of the best I’ve ever had. Seriously, I just asked the bar tender, Gaby, to make one with her choice tequila. Gaby and her colleague are excellent behind the bar, working in sync and very meticulous. Really fun to watch. Ended the dining experience with a few rounds of shits and then out to enjoy the night. Place is small, so make reservations. Prices are a little on the high side, but worth it. You can’t go wrong!

We couldn’t get into José Enrique, so they sent us down the street to Asere Cubano Kitchen. The service was wonderful; they were very attentive. The snapper was great, and the mango tart dessert too. It was Saturday night, and a street party was happening right outside too. We had a great meal and a great time.

Amazing place, great location. Food was phenomenal and will recommend to all of our friends. Roxxand was an awesome server, helped us pick the best dishes and even gave us recommendations for places to visit in San Juan! Definitely coming back.

Stopped by for a snack after lunch. Had their cevice tropical, delicious! Leyna was our fantastic waitress. We had grilled octopus which was out of this world. And their fufu was rich and flavorful with bacon. Worth the trip when in San Turce

This is one of the best places for dining at the placita. It is like been in a cuban house of the 50’s and believe me that I know what I’m talking about because I am cuban. The food is excelent and the staff makes you feel very good. Any time I had a chance, I pass by. I highly recommend you the place.

Delicious hand crafted drinks and tasty food. The ginger mojito and 18 broken hearts margaritas were outstanding.

I went on a Tuesday night. It was empty so the service was excellent. The waitress was very attentive and the mojito was strong. Nice little spot.

Other than that it’s excellent!

I think is a little pricey for that erea. The food was just ok. It was clean and very friendly staff. The mojito was pretty good, with ginger but it’s not my favorite.

I have been trying Cuban sandwiches for years and have never enjoyed one. The only reason I keep trying is that I like all the ingredients and it makes sense that a Cuban would then be delicious. Every one has been horrible, tasteless. Makes no sense. But here… here I found the one that tastes the way I imagined it should. Boom in your mouth. Fantastic apps here too. Shark fritters and pork taquitos.

This restaurants location is great, right near a lively bar and plaza Our party had heard the monitors were to die for but that’s if you order from the bartender upstairs not on the first floor After two tries, we gave up in the drinks The food was not disappointing The grilled octopus, ceviche, mussels were great. However, with one small grilled bread it was hard to soak up all the sauce and the waiter wasn’t willing to get more bread for us. As a non pork eater I wanted to order the tuna, but the chef wouldn’t alter the side dish that had bacon. So I ordered the cod, it was great! Dessert and cortado were good too. My veggies daughter had a vegetable tart and loved it! Location location!

Fantastic restaurant! We tried 3 appetizers they were all good. Beef tacos, jumbo shrimps, and beef Mofongo. And we have the amazing grilled red snapper, it was so good with garlic potatoes inside. I’m totally die for it! The deserts are amazing too! Try them all!

This place was incredible. My group of four got seated a bit after our reservation due to unexpected high demand on a Sunday night, but it was well worth it! María was our server and was super nice about everything! They had run out of a lot of appetizers by 9:00 on Sunday, but the rest that we had were awesome. From tuna tartare to Churrasco to the pork belly was to die for. Come check out Asere next time you’re near the San Juan area!

We ordered several appetizers. Tuna tartar — very very good. The ceviche was great also it was sweet(mango?) and not spicy as usual. The carpaccio was sweet(ish) as well — very interesting. The black humus was… less good than what we expected. The only reason it’s 4 and not 5 stars is the noise(way too loud) and not comfortable chairs /seats.

We tried to go to that Jose place next door but they close at 10pm(on a Saturday) so we ended up here. Luck struck, as it was awesome! We had avocado(fresh), beef and lentil soup(hearty), stew and plantain appetizer(flavorful and juicy), pork loin special(pork was well prepared but it needed more spice), and finally the wahoo special(fantastic!!!). Oh, rice and beans were a great side. Good atmosphere! I’d come here again. Some complaints came through on Unilocal about this place because it’s not authentic Cuban— I’d say they’ve done a great job of modernizing and making Cuban food classy and fun!

This restaurant is a jewel. It is located in what we can call a HOTSPOT neighborhood in San Juan, La Placita en Santurce. La Placita is a great gathering place for the locals for live music, restaurants and bars. The restaurant is not large, nor pretentious, nicely appointed and decorated in what I would call Caribbean Industrial look décor. But besides the nicety and comfort of the downstairs the«FUN» is in the recreated speakeasy upstairs reached by a backdoor hallway. The speakeasy has a veranda overlooking La Placita and a great open feeling to it akin to a rooftop launge. The staff was fabulous and extremely friendly and helpful explaining the menu. And the bartender I must say is a true master of his craft. The fare is traditional Caribbean food with focus on the Cuban style of cooking. My friend and I tried several appetizers and all were excellent. She had the Grilled Veal(Churrasco) and I had the special that night Red Snapper(Chillo). I can only tell you that it was fantastic. When I return to San Juan in the future I will definitely take time to return and spend time here.

Worth the wait! Jose Enrique had a 2 hour wait on a Friday night at 7– and we should have put reservations but across the corner Asere had two seats available outside upstairs so we took it. Most delicious food in the world. We got several dishes so take your time asking questions and looking at the menu. We got drinks– and enjoyed listening and people watching at La Placita. Our service was beyond wonderful. Wait time wasn’t bad for food. Worth every cent. A fun environment. The coffee flan wasn’t the best flan I have ever had but worth trying.

We were a group of 6, we walked in around 8pm and they were able to seat us right away. Their menu is fairly small — about 10 appetizers and 10 entrée options. My husband got the ropa viejo and I got the special cod dish, croquette and temale for appetizers. Overall the food was good, all the dishes had good flavor.

Skip this place and go to Jose Enrique up the block. We came here because the reviews on Unilocal were good. We were seated right away, and outside also. The waiter was extremely nice, and suggested we get the curassco, it was flavorless! I have never had a skirt steak that had absolutely no flavor, especially in a Latin restaurant. I also never return food, but we had too, I couldn’t eat it, the waiter and managed was never understanding about us not liking it, and brought us something else from the menu, which was just ok… the best part of the night was having all the food that was uneaten, which was a lot! And bringing it to a homeless man sleeping across the street… hey why should it go to waste. It’s such a shame we didn’t like it, the restaurant is beautiful, the service was great, and the location is perfect, just needed more flavor… oh they also have valet parking, which comes in handle in Santurce.
