Was staying in Old San Juan for a week and decided to venture out of the tourist trap. After going to the San Juan mall, my group and I decided to get dinner. Went to this place on a recommendation and I’m glad that we did. Having eaten over priced Puerto Rican food in Old San Juan for the last few days, it was a relief to find delicious, reasonably priced, authentic Puerto Rican food. I had the shrimp mofongo with the garlic sauce. This was by far the best mofongo I had in the island, and believe me, I ate my share of mofongo during my stay. It had a good balance of the crispy and soft texture from the plantains. Also, they give you a good amount of shrimp(stuffed inside and placed on top). I’m still dreaming of the delicious mofongo and thinking of how I can replicate it at home. We also ordered the fried chicken(chicarrones de pollo). The plate came with tostones. Again. Delicious. It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and had a lot of flavor. We also had sorullitos and fried mozzarella which were also good. This place has all kinds of food which will please any palate. I recommend visitors to venture out of Old San Juan and find where the locals eat. This place is definitely a locals’ secret.

A group of us were here visiting San Juan, and we got a recommendation to try dinner here. Let me tell you about the OUTSTANDING food and service at La Cueva Pizza and Steakhouse. I Highly recommend starting with the sorrullitos. Our waiter was timely and our appetizer arrived within Minutes fresh, crispy and tasty! Yummm. Next we shared a personal size chorizo pizza — so tasty and perfectly baked– we were immediately sorry we had not gotten a Medium size, we wanted more !! The highlight of the night was the shrimp stuffed mofongo. Our favorite dish. Also had the chicharonnes de pollo which was crispy and juicy ! We finished with some delicious coconut flan, even for three people we could barely finish one order as we were stuffed. Got the rest to go. I highly recommend this restaurant for the abundant variety of well prepared, fresh, tasty dishes with friendly and timely service, at an affordable price! Look forward to coming back again!

From the same owners of the famous La Cueva del Chicken Inn in Hato Rey comes La Cueva. I could not be happier that they have opened a location closer to my parents house. I did not dine in today but did carry out. I ordered my favorite chorizo pizza and it tasted just as good as the one I used to have at the original restaurant. The décor inside resembled part of the original restaurant with one wall mimicking the white stone walls and windows. Even the placemats are the same as the old joint. The restaurant is dark and has a nice bar. They do delivery for $ 2. Worth it.
