If you want the biggest toast you’ve ever had in your life, go here! The prices are economic(€ 5 – 8) and the taste is nothing short of delicious. Have fun! Ciao!

Nothing compares in Florence. Italian sandwiches usually are 90% bread, 5% meat and 5% cheese. These are cheap, filling and actually have vegetables, with lots of choices. I recommend the #9(veggies, pesto, cheese)! Nice guys working there. A definite must have when Tuscan carbs are getting you down!

Read about this place on a few different sites so I was curious to see what all the hype is about. I loved their menu, 16 different kinds of sandwiches, all with creative mixes of ingredients! For someone who has been living in Italy for the past 20 years, I can really appreciate this shop for its non-Italian interpretation of the sandwich — large and filling as opposed to the more humble classic Italian versions which take 2 or 3 of to complete a meal. For € 5 or € 6, you get a hearty«toast» which in Italian means a grilled sandwich. You get to pick from 3 types of bread(plain white, whole wheat or multigrain) and there even variations on fillings such as scrambled eggs and bacon! Just 2 steps from the Duomo, this is an excellent location for a quick meal or snack when you’re on the go. No seating available, this shop is about the size of my closet!

Grilled cheese to-go close to the Duomo, hell yah! Happy to have found i’tosto which is a fun play on an Italian idiom. The place itself is about as big as my beagle’s bedroom but what it sells is loud and clear, toasted sandwiches filled with all sorts of yummy delights. The American in me wanted the scrambled eggs and bacon, the Italian in me opted for the speck and fig jam instead. Normally anything on this street screams ‘don’t eat here, I purely want money from tourists and I won’t even bother to give you anything good’ but this is very convenient for those who are looking for a budget lunch option between the Accademia Gallery and the Duomo. I liked the fact that choosing is simple, they have about 16 choices and that’s it, three kinds of bread. Keeping it simple to me means that they can actually make a decent product. My panino was huge, probably could have shared it with someone and it hit the spot, no chips or sides necessary. I recommend the ‘il genio’(the genius) which was very tasty, there is something about jam and cured meats that makes me want to stay in Italy forever(which I probably will). Prices are cheap — about 4 – 6 euros for a toastie & water. ps. you can also take a ‘tosti’ selfie which I didn’t get to do because of the lunctime rush but it’s nice that they embrace social media.

Such an American way of doing business: toasts only! Oh wait, but that’s a superdelicious idea! This place is opened during the day and it’s absolutely genius if you have a craving, being for lunch or just a snack, and you want something warm and tasty. Huge toasts await you! Different breads for different people, a large selection of local products that can be mixed together in a 2hands size panini. My favorite? The vegetarian… I know I know, you’re in Tuscany and you wanna eat prosciutto! Don’t worry, there’s enough for every taste. Up to 20 different choices. And after that? Well they have a glass of fresh season fruit! And lovely beers… Come and get your toast, then sit and eat admiring the Duomo. What a lovely way of spending your day in Florence!
