Doing chickens right is not a skill mastered only by KFC, this local institute also does chicken the best possible way; not by deep frying but char grilling the piece of chicken to juicy perfection. Served with rice, the piece of boneless chicken is pressed thin while grilling; the crust is formed not only on the skin side but also the meat side as well giving extra crisp and crunch to the chicken. On top of the chicken fillet you can see flakes of black pepper dotted around the the white meat, the pungent heat of the pepper literally spice up the otherwise rather mild tasting piece of meat The sauce is also a highlight, although soy sauce based, there is a hint of sweetness to it; the perfect condiment for the rice that goes with the chicken. Other than the signature chicken fillet, there are other side dishes for you to order, but rather unfortunately, since I usually go there alone, I never had the chance to order other side dished. The only item that I have managed to order so far was the fish cake with lotus roots. Think of it as a patty with crunchy little bits of lotus root fleck in between the meat, pan seared to golden perfection. Greasy at the surface true, but as one of the celebrity chefs said, this recipe is from a more innocent age where foods are meant to fuel the intense daily activities; and more importantly, without the oil the crust would not be crisp. The bottom line is; unless you just wanna try out the chicken, otherwise make sure you bring a few friends along in order to maximize the number of items on the menu you can order per meal.
