I cant feel my face when I’m with you, but I love it! Hong Kong isn’t exactly known for spicy food, so this semi-hidden Sichuanese restaurant is a nice surprise in the middle of busy Lan Kwai Fong! Is it really hidden? Well not really; not if you know where you’re going. Basically this restaurant is inside a residential building in the middle of the busy bar area. Its not the only restaurant in that building, but I do admit that its cool to take friends to eat there if they’ve never been. I’m not sure how Unilocal has them listed as Mama Chau’ Sichuan Kitchen, because there are no signs outside the restaurant as well as on the menu. You just exit the elevator on the 5th floor and see a Chinese restaurant, and this is it. But that doesn’t matter, because the food here is pretty legit! Apparently they have lunch sets that are very reasonable in price; and a more expensive and extensive menu available for dinner. For lunch they serve mostly quick food, such as noodles, etc. While dinner has typical dinner dishes, such as Fish, Twice cooked pork, etc. I tried the Dan Dan noodle, and it was pretty amazing. Its the soup based version, not the typical Shanghainese dry version, and they add this very delicious black bean paste that compliments the dish very well. I can honestly say its very similar quality to some of the noodles I had in Sichuan! I will definitely come back for more spiciness whenever I’m in the mood!

Love this hidden gem in the mist of busy Central! If you like spicy food you will love this place! It’s a private kitchen that serves lunch and dinner. Authentic sichuan style food that are truly mind blowing! Once you walk in, you feel like you have entered someone’s home. With the owner’s kid’s art projects on the wall. Very cozy! I always come here for the spicy fried noodle. It’s so good that you’ll remember its taste for days! The peanuts adds a special touch to the dish. You can request for a mild version if you like. I’d say this is the must try from the lunch menu. It’s the very first item on the list for a reason! The tan tan noodle is different from the peanut sauce tan tan that we usually eat. No it’s not the same as the Cathay Lounge noodle bar LOL! BUT it’s also very good. The black bean sauce on the tan tan noodle is amazing! It’s not creamy but it tastes fabulous! For lunch for two, I always add a side dish of spicy chicken. Boneless chicken topped with a great spicy sauce! The price value ratio is very high for an authentic Sichuan restaurant in Central! Love this place and I hope they will stay for years to come!

This private kitchen in Lan Kwai Fong serves up great Sichuan food at a great price! I am hesitant to write this review because I would love to keep this gem to myself.(Call ahead for reservations.) Located on the 5th floor of the building next to Al’s Diner, make sure you take the left elevator(odd floors). This is the same building which currently houses the Gironomo Shot Bar. This place is BYOB, so stop at the 7 – 11 downstairs to load up before heading to the restaurant. The set dinner menu currently runs $ 220HKD/person for all you can eat spicy heaven! The menu varies and they happily adjust the menu for vegetarian needs. On our last visit our meal consisted of a sichuan chicken dish, eggplant and potatoes, a pork dish, a beef dish, spicy green beans, and soothing white rice. In my excitement I forgot to grab pictures, but all of us were stuffed by the end of the night!
