Fairley & Stevens Ford

I had been looking to test drive a pre-​owned Ford Escape for sometime and after looking at many other dealerships with little success, I decided to visit Fairley & Stevens in Dartmouth. They just happened to have a 2013 Ford Escape in a color that I loved with all the particulars that were a must for me such as 4 wheel drive and a build-​in navigation system. I took it for a test drive and I liked the way it drove so decided to purchase it. The day I arrived to pick it up they had it sitting out front waiting for me. After going through the purchasing paperwork I was then ready to leave in my newly owed vehicle. This was when things started going downhill with regards to overall customer service. I was handed a key fob that had scotch tape wrapped around it. When I question why there was tape on it, the dealer did not know. He also handed me an envelop that contained the second key fob. When I open the envelop I noticed that this one also was wrapped in scotch tape with tape residue all over it. I then went out and got into the car, started it and asked if the navigational card had been program for the vehicle. I discovered that it had not, so instead of driving away I had to wait for over an hour for the card to be programmed; something in my opinion should have been done prior to me arriving to pick-​up the vehicle. Once I got home I took all the tape from off both the key fobs to discover that the reason the tape was there was because the locking mechanism on both fobs that holds the key in place was broken. The next week I took the fobs back into the dealership to either have them repaired or replaced with new ones in which I did not intend to pay for because I felt that the broken fobs should have not been given to me in the first place. They told me that my warranty would cover one and the individual that sold me the car would pay for the other one out of his own pocket. I was told that it would take a couple days for the new fobs to arrive and that they would call me when they came in. After about a month and a half of waiting and not receiving a phone call, I called the dealership to inquiry. After being transferred to the service desk, the person there could not find any paperwork on these fobs being ordered, he then transferred me to someone else. After explaining again to this other person that I did not receive any word about my key fobs he told me that he would look into it and would call me back within a couple days. About 4 days later and still not receiving any phone calls, I decided to go into the dealership. I talked to one of the girls at the service deck (Laura) and explained my situation to her. She then assured me that she would order the fobs and would call me back herself when they came in and that it should not take more that a couple of days. To my surprise, probable due to my now extreme frustration, Laura did call me within 2 days to let me know that the fobs had arrived and to make an appointment for me to come in and have them programmed. My overall experience at this dealership has not been good. Details such as having the navigational system already programmed for when I arrived should have been done not to mention the broken key fobs. I would definitely not buy from this dealership again nor recommend it.

I should have known when Mom suggested lunch in Burnside that she had something else on the brain. Sure enough, as soon as we were done, she was all «Y’know, Ford is just down the street…»
I have been looking into a new car for a few weeks now, so we decided to go in and see what was available. After looking around the lot (and visiting some extra lots as well), I had found something special: A Ford Focus in Candy Blue. Good Lord, this was a nice car.
Now, car dealerships have a certain «reputation» if you will. We all know the stereotypical oily salesmen who supposedly roam around and pounce on unsuspecting clients. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous. Especially as I’m a female with not much car knowledge in my head (to my parents utter dismay). When John Bond appeared to help us out (best. name. ever.), I was put to ease immediately. He agreed that the Focus was a lovely model, but then made sure to go over a few more options, just so I was aware of pros and cons. He asked questions about what the car would be used for, what kind of storage would I need, and made me think about issues I didn’t even realize at first. It was obvious that he didn’t want to just sell me a car– He wanted to sell me MY car.
The entire process was painless. He even suggested I take the car on a test ride to Bedford to show my Ford-​obsessed boyfriend and get his opinion on it too! He worked with us to find a great price, and I really can’t say enough good things about him! I never once felt I was being ripped-​off or taken advantage of.
I can wholeheartedly recommend both this dealership and their staff. I worked with both John and Mike Kleykens, and they were both real people who didn’t just spew out canned sales information at me. They did their jobs, and did them without making me feel uncomfortable.
In conclusion, I have an amazing car now. Watch out for me on the highway. I usually speed.

«I love car shopping,» is never anything you will see me say. At least, not until I have a few hundred thousand dollars to spend. Then at that point my dream has come true and I’ll be driving my new Lamborghini to coffee shops in order to write my reviews every day. For now, I’m not that big of a fan.
But a friend of mine needed a new, 2009 truck for her business and asked me to tag along. I thought, «what the heck,» and drove off with her to Fairley & Stevens in Dartmouth. I assumed we were going to be hassled by car salesmen, or salespeople as soon as we got there. After all my friend was driving the latest Lexus SUV. It would have been obvious to the sales staff as we drove into the car lot, that we had money and it was not a problem to buy almost any vehicle they had on the lot. To my surprise there was no typical «car salespeople» attitude. In fact, a lovely, older gentleman walked up to us and simply asked if we had any questions. My friend went straight into what she was looking for in her dream truck. Now I don’t know how he did this, but the older gentleman instantly knew where a truck that matches what she was looking for, would be! We went inside and he pulled up all the information on the computer. Now my friend does know a lot about vehicles, what are the right prices and what is a rip off etc… I don’t know if this salesman’s spidey sense was tingling but he made sure there was going to be no «swindling» with us. Not to say he would normally have done some swindling to others. In fact, I actually got the impression we found one of the most honest salespeople in the city.
So after a few phone calls and discussions over the color of the seats, sizes of this and that, a sale was made! It was the easiest and painless experience I have ever had at a car dealership! Now I can’t obviously speak for all the salespeople that work there. But I hope they do what this gentleman does or else they should definitely take notes because he is fantastic! With the way the economy is and gas prices, its more important than ever to excel in customer service if you are a car company. If you can’t lower your prices, at least raise your quality of service. Fairley & Stevens does this and thanks to their friendly, no hassle attitude, when its time for me to look for a vehicle, I’ll be heading there.
