I had 2 days in Belgium and could only eat so many mussels and I’m glad this was one of the places I tried because I think they were the best mussels I’ve ever had! I got the Mussels naturale and they were fantastic — nice light flavor that highlighted the natural sweetness of the mussels. I found myself enjoying the bits of celery and onion as well. An incredibly healthy portion size of mussels, I didn’t even touch the frites so I could focus on finishing the whole casserole dish and boy, did I! If I’m being honest, I enjoyed the bread and little Parmesan crisps(they are little soup crackers) more than the frites but eh, it comes with the meal so why not. If you didn’t already know, it’s common to eat your frites in Belgium(at least the touristy places that I’m aware of) with a ketchup/mayo combo.

Five stars!!! I highly highly recommend this place! Beautiful place, great location, amazing food and the nicest staff! We had the prix fix lunch menu and we are so happy and full. Beef stew and chocolate mousse to die for.

Well established restaurant about 5 mins from the markt. Restaurant has steep steps to enter. There is dining on the ground and first floors. Access to the first floor is either by a steep staircase or a spiral staircase. The first floor is not as cramped as the ground floor and seats by the window offer views of the square. At Christmas this is quite an amazing view. Food is varied bit as the name suggests mussels are featured. They can be: natural, with white wine, with zot beer, tomato and basil or with any othe other 10 sauces. We went for the white wine option. The mussels come in a kilo pot where the lid becomes the receptacle for the empty shells. The base broth has celery, carrots and onions. The dish also come with frites in a cone. Overall very tasty and filling even though I don’t like celery and discard that with the empty shells. Several beers are on draft plus quite a few bottles. There is a separate wine menu as well. Water is in a bottle and more expensive than beer. Service was excellent as always.

If you are reading this review and you are sitting down at this amazing restaurant, please do yourself a favor and order the Flemish fish pan. The sauce is just amazing, everything is perfectly cooked and it just melts in your mouth! If I could pick one dish to eat everyday for the rest of my life, this would be it! I cannot say enough good things about the Flemish fish pan. Literally the best thing I’ve ever eaten!

So you know how you have that one restaurant that sticks in your mind as the best place you have ever been to? Well this is it. You must add this to your itinerary while in Brugge. It is a quaint little restaurant in on of the old building around the chocolate shops. It is 3 stories with some neat rooms and ambiance. I made reservations ahead of time and they had the table reserved for us. The service was great and they took very good care of us. I started my meal with their Pumpkin soup. I thought the flavor was rich and found it very delicious. It was a little rainy in Brugge, so it definitely hit the spot. The cheese croquets were pretty delicious and the goat cheese was delicious. I made my wife order something different so we could share. Best way of touring Europe. I got the Irish rib-eye because come on. Who passes up a rib-eye. The flavor was really great and the cook was perfect. My wife ordered the Flemish Fish pan and oh my goodness. This dish was one of the best things I have ever tasted. The sauce that this seafood goodness is prepared in. Is purely magical! I ended up trying to eat most of my wife’s dish. This restaurant has become the thing of legends in my mind. I specifically will travel to Brugge again one day just to eat at this restaurant. My life has forever been changed!

Easily the best mussels we had while in Belgium, and we ate a LOT of mussels. They’re my favorite food, and both my husband and I love fries. Both are excellent at Poules Moules. The location of the restaurant is great. It’s in the middle of a central square and about a 10 – 15 min walk from the train station. Since we went in December, we overlooked the Christmas markets in the square which made for a really nice ambience. The inside of the restaurant is cool, they have a dumbwaiter which brings the food up and down the floors(I believe there are 3). We got croquettes to start, and they give these complimentary Parmesan garlic crackers. In hindsight, we would have been fine without the croquettes. The mussels are what it’s all about. You can choose a sauce like Provençal, curry, white wine or beer and they’re happy to accommodate however you’d like the sauce served. My husband and I both asked for it mixed in — I got the Provençal, he got the mustard. They were perfectly cooked and massive, easily the best I’ve ever had. There are SO many of them too, it felt like a bottomless pot. The chips were crispy and perfectly salted and so delicious to dunk in the extra sauce. The only downside was the price though — we went for lunch and it was about € 80(!!) To be fair we had 1 – 2 beers each, two starters of croquettes and two orders of Moules frites, but I still thought it was really pricey for lunch. Still, excellent mussels y’all. Highly recommended.

Great spot! Mussels were plump and juicy, they have every variation of sauce to fit whatever you are looking for. I went for the standard Marinere and it was fabulous– light with just enough flavor. My friend tried the cream sauce which was also tasty though I prefer Marinere. Pots were huge and easily shareable. We made the mistake of each ordering our own pots and could have shared and still had plenty leftover. This place can get crowded. We went at an off time so had no trouble.

I guess white wine sauce with mussels is literally white wine so it tasted like white wine and definitely not flavorful. Maybe it’s different in Brugge but I imagined it to be with some garlic in it and cooked long enough that the alcohol taste isn’t the main taste. They also forgot the salt. Not even close to being a good dish but boy there is sure a lot of mussels for € 20.

Excellent!!! :) I don’t love seafood, but the mixed fish pan is amazing.(Clams Vispannetje) It’s in a cream garlic sauce that’s to die for. The ribeye is pretty good as well. The goat cheese is delicious. I didn’t like the pumpkin soup it was too watery.

Absolut Empfehlenswert!!!

Surprisingly good place — reservations DEFINITELY recommended. This place kept popping up when we searched for places in Brugge to get good moule frite, so we walked over around lunchtime one day and asked about making reservations that night. Nope, they’re fully booked. So we compromised and, after taking a walk, came back for a very early dinner. Good thing we did, because by 6pm they were turning everyone away. Anyway, I got the mussels in Brugge beer(when in Brugge…) and my fiancé got some sort of steak. The mussels were delicious, perfectly cooked, but I probably wouldn’t have gotten it with beer next time just because I tend not to like the flavour of beer. We both got fries, which was a mistake — the portions were so huge that neither of us could finish our dishes and we each barely made a dent in our fries(seriously, everyone says America has such big portions, but I don’t think I finished a single dish the entire time I was in Brugge). For dessert I forced myself to eat a chocolate mousse… okay, I admittedly finished that. It was so good, so unlike chocolate mousse I’d had before. Both light and rich and creamy and… get it. You won’t regret it. I’m honestly not sure I’d go back to Brugge, but if I did, I’d make it a point to go back here.

So there’s a tie for best meal in Bruges: Poules Moules vs Ribs n’ Beer. Two different types of cuisine, so let’s just call it what is which is two winners. Many moons ago, my husband and I visited Bruges and Poules Moules was on our list of places to dine but given sickness, rain and time lost due to staring at Fidel, we just couldn’t fit it in. This time around though, we fit it in and it was oh so good! I don’t know how this happened but we were somehow able to get a table for four at 1pm seated in their ‘garden’ which is in the middle of the square. By the way, there are two ATMs on the edge of this square which is important to note because ATMs are hard to come by in Bruges. Anyway, the sun was shining and we were tired from walking, so we happily sat down and ordered beers. They were delivered promptly and tasted delicious. I can’t say that the beer selection was gigantic but it worked. Three of us ordered the flemish stew and it was served in a cast iron(or something comparable) pot and was super delicious. The meat was tender and juicy and there were no large chunks of fat. Our fourth dining mate ordered the roasted chicken. All four of us were absolutely happy with our choices but we all agreed that the fries were probably the worst we’d had all weekend(Ghent and Bruges restaurants included). They were more like UK-style chips, fat and over-fried. Service was excellent for the restaurant being packed. Servers were there when we needed them and left us alone the rest of the time. My only regret is that my husband and I did not dine here on our first trip to Bruges!

The best moules and frites I had while visiting Belgium. The restaurant is located off of one of Bruges many lovely squares. There is a nice sized patio area though the interior is quite comfortable as well. Everything about my experience here was excellent: the atmosphere, the service and the food. They offer several types of moules, my preference is white wine. The steaming pot of mussels was enormous, too many for one person. A portion will easily feed two people. The steamed mussels were large and plump, all of the shells were open without broken shells. There was a bit of broth at the bottom along with the veggies that they steam with the mussels(onions, celery and carrots). Along with the mussels I had frites with mayonnaise(something that I would not do in the US but the mayonnaise just tastes different, better, here). Poules Moules is a bit pricy but the size and quality of the meal is worth it.

Great service. Delicious food. And beautiful square. We stopped here for lunch on a Saturday day trip and we were very happily surprised with the quality of food and service here. I enjoyed shrimp and cheese croquettes while my husband devoured his moules. Try the Zot beer. Made in Brügges. We will definitely drop a pin here.

Nice location, we stopped to have a drink but decided not to stay for dinner as the specialty(mussels) wasn’t in season yet. Interior is quite nice and service is good – as for most restaurants in Brugge, they speak a number of different languages.

We went for dinner and ordered mussels with Belgian beer and asparagus Flemish style. I particularly liked the asparagus — it was very unique and well cooked for a starter. As for the mussels, I quite liked it, but for some reason, I felt like I’ve had better. Perhaps it’s the difference between local and non-local styles; as I’m more used to the non-local style at this point, it took me a little getting used to. With that said, the fries were AMAZING. I wish I had a bigger stomach so I could have finished them all! Ambience is quite cute and intimate. The restaurant has multiple floors connected via a narrow spiral staircase, so expect a little climbing when you arrive/leave! Service was also solid. We were served by both a waiter and a waitress, and both were very prompt and kind. A solid place for mussels if you haven’t had any yet in Brugge!

Man wird also gut satt!

Best mussels in Belgium. Here it is. And believe me, we’ve done the leg work. Beer cooked mussels, goat cheese drizzled with honey/pine-nuts/fresh herbs, and a cold beer on a beautiful warm day. We had to come back the next day. The pasta and baked scampi in curry sauce was delicious as well! The staff was so kind, but that has proven true in most of Belgium. The rustic atmosphere tops off the beautiful location.

We did as the tourists do in Belgium and dined on mussels and frites for our first lunch in Bruges. I ordered mussels steamed in Belgian beer and was not disappointed by the heaping pot of fresh, large, flavorful mussels. The beer list was quite good and I paired my meal with Orval. Despite being close to the city center, I didn’t find the restaurant to be overrun with other tourists. The old home that the restaurant is housed in is quite charming and the atmosphere was cozy and nicely suited for smaller parties and tables of two. If we had more time in Bruges, we would have returned!

Merci encore Unilocal ! Petit extra parental: ils avaient une table à langer!

Best Mussels in Belgium, had to visit twice just to make sure The interior of this restaurant is very nice, rustic meets modern type of vibe, and there is plenty of seating. They have multiple floors of seating, which you take a spiral stair case to get to, or you can sit outside right near the restaurant or in the desginated patio area. The service here is great, quick and helpful. The food: –For starters the Tepid Goatscheese with Honey and Balsamico was jaw dropping, and perfect in every way. –The Cheese and shrimp croquets were not bad, but not anything special or worth getting. –The Mussels in Bruges beer are the best I have ever had, it trumps not only all of their other varieties of mussels in wine but all other places we ate it at. The beer gave the mussels a sweet crab like taste and was realy addicting. –The Pasta with baked scampi and curry sauce was delicious, but don’t make me keep mentioning their mussels. The place is a bit pricier compared to other spots, though mussels are standard price, but everything was well worth it both times we went. Stick with the Goat Cheese and the Mussels and some beer and you will be begging to come back

This is one of those time that Unilocal 4 star review failed me. Poules Moules was not our first choice for lunch during our One Day in Brugge but a lot of the places we wanted to visit were closed. My Unilocal App has Poules Moules as a 4 Star with 30+ reviews which sound pretty promising. The set up and deco of the restaurant is cozy and nice. Service was excellent. The food though was quite disappointing. Price wise I expected to be quite pricey as Poules Moules is located in a touristy area. We ordered Mussels cooked in Beer(23.75EUR) and Flemish Beef Stew Prix Fix Menu(21.75EUR) to share. I have high expectation for mussels as I am in Belgium and this suppose to be a place that specialized in «Moules»? Mussels were overcooked and without much flavour. Small and rubbery and reminded me of the frozen varieties I had. Portion though was generous but just too much of the bad thing… Flemish Beef Stew was a little overcooked and dry. The tomato soup was so sour. Chocolate mousse dessert was the best part of the meal… Personally I think there is a lot of other places in Brugge if you want decent food. I would not recommend.
