Chocolaterie Dumon

Chocolate was good, but not any more special than other places in Brugges. None of the chocolates in the case were labeled. We bought a box (380 grams?) to fill for $ 13.50. We asked the woman to go down the case naming the chocolates and she seemed very irritated. The entire time she was incredibly rude, snippy, and had an attitude. I almost walked out. A different salesman in the store helping another customer seemed nice… I wish I had waited for him.

I handpicked a few different truffles (milk chocolate, dark chocolate, champagne, and a other flavors that were seasonal). They were enjoyable and delicious, but not outstandingly good truffles compared to leonidas (aka nearly the cheapest and most commonly seen on my travels through brussels, ghent, antwerp, and brugges). The exterior had more texture than truffles ive had elsewhere, which was nice. The interior was creamy and smooth, as expected. Was the interior smoother or lighter than other chocolate shops? No. Also, the taste of the dumon chocolate didnt come through in even my chocolate truffles. All of them tasted very caramel like, which was disappointing considering i wanted a variety of flavors. Overall, the truffles were enjoyable, creamy, and delicious but if youre looking for the best, these arent it.
Their milk, dark and white plain chocolates were creamy, rich and flavorful. I was pleasantly surprised. Those are worth trying (they have free sample bowls in the store). I tried a few of their pralines, pretty good. The actual chocolate shined through, and made me regret not buying the chocolate bars with unique additions. Their earl grey tea chocolate praline is my favorite bexause the filling is super smooth and the earl grey flavor is bolder. Its a minute walk from the chocolate line (aka another popular chocolatier), so drop in if you have time.

I heard that Dumon was one of the chocolates not to be missed in Bruges, and found it to be so true.
As a store, Dumon seems very discreet and quietly elegant, and it didn’t immediately strike me.
Eating milk chocolates from Dumon however, DID strike me and I was left feeling thankful I had bought them!
The chocolates here were beautifully made and it was hard not to buy based on looks rather than flavour. There were so many pretty, pretty chocolates made in cool shapes. My favourites that I bought (I tend to buy milk chocolates and pralines) were the milk chocolate heart that seems ombré coloured (white and milk) and the rectangular one stamped with Dumon’s name a couple of times. I also tried a classy looking little chocolate cube with a pink top layer. I think it was violet and it was light and lovely. I would love to go back and try more!

Did I go into the wrong Dumon? Why is the other location more reviewed? Uh oh, anyway, with out being specific in direction, came into this Dumon because Dumon itself has a good review. Dumon chocolate is still Dumon Belgian Chocolatier chocolate right… no matter which location.
The setting gives me a feel that it was once a jewelry store. In the center boxed off behind glass shelves of chunks and pieces of chocolates on display are the staff who help the line of 10 customers long. From the entrance head left for packaged chocolates displayed on the wall shelves like those resembling molded figures like angels, snowman, boys/​girls, etc… and other packaged forms of chocolate. I didn’t find any worthy as gifts. Upon entering head right you’re find boxes and better gift ideas on top of the counter. I managed to find a box of chocolates as a gift with transparent packaging to see the chocolate one gets without opening the box. The chocolates are colorful looking. I was fortunate\unfortunate to have tried only a couple pieces while there… pretty smooth and good chocolate. I am told the box of chocolates whom I gifted have a smooth and creaminess to them.

Dumon is good but not great for dark chocolates. I got a few dark chocolates & all were overly sweet compared with the same version I got at the Chocolate Line nearby (ex: the salted caramel was like a shot of sugar). The dark chocolate bars also contained a low percentage of cacao. I just finished off the pecan/​pistachio combo & it tasted almost like milk chocolate.

Chocolaterie Dumon is a lot more down to earth compare to the other Chocolaterie we visited in Brussels.
Here the design is more colourful and youthful and is hard for us not to pick up a sample pack to take home as souvenirs. The problem with the pack though the flavour is really random and one have no idea what those are till you put it in your mouth!
Free samples on the counter if you want to have a taste before purchasing…

Stephan Dumon ist schon ein bekannter Chocolatier in Brugge, oder villeicht sogar in Belgien. Er hat Filiale in 3 belgischen Städte sowohl auch in Hongkong und Valencia.
In dem Laden in Simon Stevinplein haben wir für ca. 35 € in Pralinen investiert!
Der Laden ist klein aber hübsch.
Die Pralinen sind auch sehr gut — kein Wunder dass Gault-​Millau sie lobt!

Terrific place to satisfy your craving for Belgium chocolate.
We stopped for hot chocolates, although they have the full range of pieces of chocolate too. Enjoyed a few of those too.
Their extensive list of hot chocolate options is unique: We ordered, then they brought us large cups of piping hot milk and the types of chocolate we’d ordered, stuck to spoons. You drop your spoon in the milk and start stirring. Mine was praline; my wife’s was dark chocolate with vanilla. Very tasty, after the workout melting the chocolates in the hot milk. Not as strong of a chocolate taste as I’d like, but still flavorful.
The women behind the counter had «Can’t be bothered» attitudes, but that was no big deal. I noticed their rudeness applied to locals as well as Americans. Sitting at the window people-​watching in the local square overcame any interest in the two of them.

Extremely friendly. Excellent chocolate. 1 block from the bell tower.

Bei einem Besuch in Belgien darf man natürlich nicht an den besonderen Schokoladengeschäften vorbei gehen.
In Brügge gehört ein Besuch in einem Shop von Stephan Dumon dazu.
Das Angebot an verschiedenen Schokoladen und Pralinen ist optisch sehr ansprechend gestaltet.
Es gibt eine Vielzahl fertig abgepackter Schokolade aber auch verschiedene Pralinen die man sich nach persönlichen Geschmack aussuchen kann.
