In the midst of Kelvin Grove Village lies several quick and easy options for a meal on the run. I popped into Kawa Sushi needing just that kind of meal and I, and my stomach, didn’t leave disappointed. It’s fairly average and to-be-expected sushi train fare — tuna and avocado, salmon nigiri, prawn tempura with avocado — you know the drill. You’ll average around $ 4 a plate. Alternatively, there’s a menu of hot meals like teriyaki tofu don, udon noodles or, the option I went for, Beef Don for $ 8.90. It’s cheap, it’s cheerful and it won’t break the bank. It’s a solid option when you’re in a hurry and just want something to stop the hanger pains.

If you find that the line for Sushi Edo in Newmarket is literally out the door, this is the closest option for sushi. The sushi train selection is decent, especially if you are into fried chicken sushi which is still a mystery to me. They also have an a la carte menu to order from. The best news is that the salmon sashimi seems fresh– this for me is essential. The tempura veggies were shredded sweet potato and onions– not what we expected but edible. I have been here for lunch and dinner– lunch was busier so there was more turnover on the train. Dinner was pretty dead because everyone with patience was in line at Sushi Edo…
