Quite a good fish and chip shop. The calamari is nice and tender, and the fish is generally good. The chips aren’t awful, and the Caesar salad is not bad either. The garden salad’s not great, but garden salad hardly ever is, except when it’s home-made.

Sometimes you just have cravings, cravings that can be satisfied by nothing other than that one particular food you are so longing for. For me, this regularly involves Carraway Pier’s delicious chips! Seriously people, I will dare to say they sell the best hot potato chips in Brisbane. Chunky cut, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and always perfectly seasoned with herbs and salty goodness. The fish and burgers are good too. .. But there’s only really ever been one reason I go there. ;-)

Unilocal recommended 4 stars. Place is pleasant and no it’s not a pier. Water no where in sight. Service is friendly. Looks like a family run business. Ordered the family platter comprising cod, chips, calamari and prawns. Batter was crisp but slightly hard. Overall you get allot of product for the price. Food was average. I have eaten better. But for those on a budget. Pretty decent fare

Great fish & chips, possibly the best I’ve had since moving to Brisbane. Crispy, fresh & tasty this is a great value takeaway or sit down bite to eat. We had a double serve($ 23) which was just the right amount for two with cod, calamari, prawns & chips. The fish & calamari was tender, the chips crisp & I wasn’t left with greasy fingers at the end of my meal. An added bonus is being able to byo your beer or wine, just watch out for the fact they don’t take card… cash only.

Love this place. If you’re at QUT it’s worth the walk down the hill(not to mention the torturous walk back up the hill) to hit up Carraway Pier. People talk about the chips. Yep, they’re good. I’m a fan of the student meal deal. Fish, chips and a can of drink for under $ 10. This was my staple lunch; until I tried the burgers. A hamburger with the lot is the go. I’m pretty damn fussy about my burgers, and these are probably the best I’ve had in Brisbane. They taste… fresher, and less soggy, than traditional takeaway burgers.

I popped in for lunch the other day. I had smoked salmon on Turkish bread. It was a little slapped together, but tasty enough. While I was waiting for my sandwich, I was reading a few Unilocal reviews of the place, and suddenly, I was wishing I had ordered something with chips! So tonight I ordered a single pack take-away. It is quite a lot of food for $ 10.50, two pieces of cod, a few calamari rings, two prawns, and chips. The seafood was fine, nothing incredible. I have had flakier, crispier fish, and I found it to be under seasoned. The chips however, were really good, fresh and crisp, and perfectly seasoned. I’m not sure why one aspect is well seasoned, the other under. Also this place deals only in cash, which my mom(who works for the taxation department) told me always to be wary of. They are usually fudging the books. Just sayin.’

Wanna know what my all-time, life-long favourite food is? It’s chips. Yep, hot chips. Obviously I’m the epitome of healthy living, right? I can thank my lucky stars that Carraway Pier opened the year after I finished my degree at QUT Kelvin Grove because otherwise things could have taken a path that wound up with me being a contestant on The Biggest Loser. The chips here are so so so good. Beer battered chips with lemon, man. Who needs fish when the chips are little chunks of heaven? Not me! My dining companions, however, tell me that their fish gets an A in terms of your fish and chip style battered fish and isn’t overly greasy and soggy like some fish and chip shop fish can be. I Carraway Pier is renowned among QUT students and Kelvin Grove locals for its way above average fish and chips, and the breezy outdoor tables are usually packed even at lunch time. While my friends enjoy their fish and calamari, I pretend to be interested in the quality of their meals, but really I’m just nodding and feigning attentiveness while marvelling at the beauty of the humble chip. Maybe I should re-enrol at QUT…

When you’re a student at the QUT Kelvin Grove, there’s an ever-growing number of snacks at your disposal: coffee from Beadles; a soggy egg and lettuce sandwich from the refectory; a greasy kebab from Kebab O’Clock. Either of these options are fine if you’re after something inexpensive and fast, but if you’ve got a few hours to spare between classes and really want to sit down to a good meal to treat yourself for the work/procrastination you’ve been doing, you can’t go past Carraway Pier. I ordered the barramundi with a side of beer battered chips for just under $ 14, and it was all fresh and delicious. The fish was tender, not dry or stiff from freezer burn like many standard fish and chip shops. The seating area is located beside a quiet lane on Musk Avenue, and populated with a mixture of students, academics, and Kelvin Grove locals. My pick for Carraway Pier is the beer battered chips — they’re world class, and after a serving you’ll feel satisfied and rejuvenated enough to resist falling asleep in your next lecture.

Ahhh just thinking about ‘Carraway Pier’ brings back old memories! In fact, just writing about it now makes me want to hop in the car and drive there. I would visit this place far too often during my uni days. If it wasn’t for their burgers, it was for their chips(with lots of chicken salt) or calamari or fish. I would like this place to much, I think I may have skipped a few classes to enjoy a quick snack with my friends. ‘Carraway Pier’ offer high quality fish, chips and burgers at pretty reasonable prices. I would always order the marinated grilled chicken burger which would come with lots of salad and my choice of sauce, I would always order the aioli. The chips here are the chunky beer battered kind which are pretty much the best kind you can get. And of course, the fish and chips at this place is also delicious– not too oily and the fish is tender and moist. I always found the service to be good, the wait staff are helpful and the food generally gets to your table pretty quickly. It seems this place can do no wrong! So if you are a QUT Kelvin Grove student or just someone who loves burgers, fish and chips, you might want to try what ‘Carraway Pier’ has to offer.

When at university, a long break at between classes can be up to four hours. In that time a person should always try to eat at least one meal. Sometimes I wander down the hill and see what’s good at Carraway Pier. This place is pretty solid and around lunchtime its consistently full inside and out. If the line up to order isn’t too long I’m inclined to drop in and wait. Carraway keep their menu pretty simple this in turn allows them to always serve quality food. There isn’t too much choice in the type of fish you can order but on the flip side, you can buy a Single Pack that includes a piece of cod, some calamari, two prawns and chips for under $ 10. Their selection of burgers, served with chips, is also under $ 10 and is perfect for students and professionals looking for an affordable feed to fill the stomach. Turn around on an order, when at its busiest, can take up to fifteen minutes. But, for what you pay is rewarded handsomely. A welcome addition to Carraway is that they also serve breakfast. The most expensive meal, their Big Breakfast, is under $ 12. I have not personally had the breakfast but I’ve been told that it’s well worth the coffers.
