Miss Kitty’s Saloon

Unfortunately I was underwhelmed by my visit to Miss Kitty’s last night.
The drinks menu was lacking sweet ciders and sweet white wine (moscato).
The crab and prawn burger was bizzare and unpleasant to eat — the crab meat was so hot it burnt my mouth, and it was sitting on top of cold prawns.
The guac dish was far to heavy with thick, doughy flatbread and labne (kind of like goats cheese crossed with creamcheese).
The slaw was tasty but wasn’t creamy or mustard flavoured as it was described on the menu.
The service was friendly but I’m not rushing back here anytime soon.

have been a few times now, and i’m always left with the feeling of «meh».
Food was nothing to rave about and the service was very average from the young lady who seemed very grumpy.
Not really much more to say, except I doubt I’ll be back as three strikes was enough to ward me off.

Never have I been so excited and so disappointed. 1.5 stars for this place.
I couldn’t wait to try this place, and from the service to the food it was all supremely disappointing.
The menu is enticing– you’re drawn into the Canadian waffles with fried chicken, the smokey BBQ sauces and ribs. But almost every dish — except maybe the coleslaw — was average. Actually below.
The tostada I ordered came out as a bowl of iceberg lettuce sliced with barely any meat, sauce or flavour. In fact the meat was so tough and dry it was almost inedible. I eat any meat, all meat. But this I had to push to the side and dig into lettuce. The waffles and chicken was ok– the chicken was a little pink, sweet and under salt. The chips had no salt– and for $ 9.50 for chips with BBQ ketchup I was expecting the best BBQ smokey sauce in Canada.
The ribs were spicy, not quite as juicy as you would want.
The chicken wings were dry (not deep fried*) and the poutine was nice– but not with stringy melted cheese as thought.
Everything seems overpriced for what you actually get. And the quality of food definitely needs some work.
The service was average, not once were we asked how our meals were and they took our plates away before some people had even finished eating — a pet hate of mine.

Imagine if you will, a bit of wild west meets boudoir meets industrial meets kitsch meets art deco meets barnyard. And that is probably the best way I can describe Miss Kitty’s décor. Homage to the good olé USA with a few other countries in the mix for good measure.
The service was the best I’ve had in Perth in a very long while, and I dine out a few times a week. From the guy who greeted us to the guy behind the bar to the delightful waitress attending to us, it was a beautiful thing. Imagine that — staff who know how to really make their patrons feel welcome, who are happy to chat (well it was a quiet night), to give helpful suggestions based on our food likes — and who leave no doubt that THEY LOVE THEIR WORK! Yes indeed there are many wonderful hospitality staff around town, but Miss Kitty’s is in a league of its own.
The food — well poutine was a given — gloriously squidgy chips smothered in tasty gravy, sprinkled with fresh parsley and dotted with curds. I normally prefer my chips crunchy but in this case that wouldn’t have worked. Soft and yummy and really comforting.
Chicken with waffles piqued our interest, as it sounded unlike anything we’d tried before. Fried chicken served with sweetish waffles and a corn and onion salsa with a hint of chilli. The contrast of the fried chicken with the sweet waffles was a bit strange at first, but it grew on me and I wished there’d been a bit more chicken. Just loved that fried chicken.
Our final and healthiest dish was the black bean salad. Compared to our other exciting dishes, the salad was a bit tame but nonetheless it filled in that last little savoury gap in our stomachs. It certainly looked very pretty with its red cabbage, yellow corn, green rocket and black beans.
Last but not least — dessert. Who doesn’t love a giant ice cream sandwich? Especially when the sandwich is brioche, the ice cream is made from creamy peanut butter, and the whole thing is smeared with a sweet berry jam? Let me tell you — when the slices of ice cream began melting and soaking into the fat slices of brioche, the enjoyment factor jumped up several notches. I’m glad we shared this massive dessert on the advice of our waitress — it was way too much for one person. Did I mention it was delicious? Not something i’d ordinarily choose, but sometimes you’ve just gotta go with your instincts… and the advice of staff who know the food.
I’ve noticed that the menu changes regularly at is Kitty’s. I think they like to ratchet things up a bit and keep the chefs’ creative juices flowing. There’s an open kitchen and we amused ourselves by keeping an eye on the goodies that were being produced. This food won’t win awards, but it’s fun. There’s nothing wrong with fun foods once in a while, and as long as you leave your kilojoule counter at home, you’re bound to enjoy yourselves. I’d suggest visiting mid-​week when it’s quiet, as the weekends get to be pretty rowdy and conversations become shouting matches.
For my money, Miss Kitty’s is the cat’s miaow :)

Miss kitty saloon is aptly named with a saloon area across the bar (massive chairs and round tables) and wooden and steel tables scattered around the restaurant. It also has some outdoor seating and two wooden benches.
The drinks menu has well priced cocktails, matsos mango beer (must try) and the virgin Caesar (cocktail).
I went here with a group of friends having salivated over the thougt of poutine fries many many times.
Between us we ordered
1. Fried chicken with waffles — comes with dried cranberries. Waffles are huge, thick and fresh. Chicken legs are huge but seasoning is pretty bland
2. Mac n cheese — most delicious Mac n cheese I’ve ever had with orange cheese and a slight spicy kick to it. Yummo
3. Mackerel on a bed of black bean purée and two pieces of boiled potato with skin — the fishiest fish I’ve ever had that it masked the flavour of the black bean purée and the orange looking sauce on top. The boiled potato — I didn’t get it? Why was it even there? Fish and potato who does that. The fish still had bones in it and the skin was flaking off as I ate. Ugh. Worst fish I’ve ever had.
4. New york striploin with fries and gravy — my friend devoured it and loved it.
5. Beef burger — juicy beef patty with delicious pickles
6. Poutine fries are not too thick cut fries with gravy (scant amount) and curd — the curd tasted like haloumi. The gravy tasted nice but a larger serving would have been nice. Nothing special. I wasn’t moved.
7. Oreo brownie with butter cream and peanut butter Ice cream — aptly named and aptly flavoured. Could taste chocolate, creamy butter, and peanut and the crunchiness of Oreo in one mouthful. Amazing dessert. Heaven!
Service was quick and staff helpful.
Will go back for the Mac and cheese and Oreo brownie.

Overpriced even for Perth! Not comparable to Canadian or American food. Ordered ribs and all I got was a rack for $ 34 no sides. Polite staff, good atmosphere, delicious Ceasars.

Excellent food and excellent service! Poutine, Chicken & waffles, Brussel sprouts, Mac and cheese all great flavours however the chicken was a tad watery and the Poutine could have done with some more curd but other than that everything done to a T!

Not sure if I’m in love with Miss Kitty’s yet??? Bought a scoopon and booked in a month ago for a Thursday night and got the most crappiest table for two in the walkway near the bar. Maybe I’m wrong but if you book way in advance you should get an alright table??? Maybe it was the scoopon?
Anyway the scoopon was for poutine (chips gravy and cheese) ribs with slaw and fried onion rings and also banoffee dessert. The poutine was yummy but the ribs and battered onion rings missed the mark. The banoffee was ok– little serves in very small jars, small jars– it was manly cream, top n fill and craves chic cookies and banana. Not on the normal menu so I guess just for the scoopon.

I’ll be back to give it a shot again I guess but might be just for drinks.

I went here on a double date with old friends and we had a grand if some what expensive time. The interior decorator should be commended. The place oozes cool and i felt like I was a little in the wild Wild West so much that I regretted abandoning my cowboy boots by my nightstand.
The menu selections were fantastic and the plate of the night was the scallops and chorizo. It was so good it melted in your mouth. I even had the peanut butter icecream knowing I’m lactose intolerant and would be paying for it big time. For everyone’s reference — it was so worth it.
We pretty much had everything on the menu and it was fab. Staff were very friendly, wine and beer great. Our bill was $ 300 but it was a great meal.

Miss Kitty’s has been on my wishlist FOREVER and we finally visited this evening. The extremely helpful waitress explained the menu to us, letting us know everything was good for sharing so that we did.
The mac and cheese with pulled pork was epic. Gooey, stringy, strong cheese balanced by the sweetness of the pulled pork. Cook beautifully and exactly what we wanted on a chilly wet night.
The beef tostada was a dish I probably won’t order again. It lacked in flavour and the beef was fatty and had a gelatinous texture. Lemon helped, but it was just average.
Loved the fries served with smokey tomato ketchup. They were rustic and cooked well, and the sauce was very tasty.
We’ll be back for sure!

It’s a sharing is caring type thing! The food and service was outstanding! You do need to get a few dishes to share so it does add up. We shared the ceviche, beef and chicken wings. I had a bloody mary styled cocktail with a bacon and cheese cocktail stick. Amazing. The only reason why it didn’t get 5 stars is because I thought the plates were a little expensive for what you got. They serve North American styled fare and beers. Somewhere you should definitely check out at least once!

Miss Kitty’s looks great; I really like the way it’s been decorated and the atmosphere they’ve created. Unfortunately, all the hard surfaces make it very noisy when it fills up. Too noisy. I couldn’t hear any of what the poor waitress was saying when she explained the menu. Speaking of which, the menu looks good, and a couple of the dishes we ordered were yum (the grilled octopus and also the cauliflower), but I found the rest of the food quite average.

A great little place, slightly out of the way of the swing of Mt Lawley, but worth a visit. Sharing style food… which is always good as you’ll want to try everything. We pretty much orders half the menu between 4 of us, they food was tasty, with a good selection of Canadian-​styled comfort food, including tender ribs, fried pickles, mac and cheese and lollies in a jar. and the cocktails were strong enough to clean the bar with!

Fried Pickles! oh my gosh they were so delicious. Paired with a cured ham and some sort of savoury scrumptious sauce, I was loving it. The batter of the pickles was divine.
Now that I have that out of the way…
This place had excellent service, a super fun vibe, some great specials on for their January promotions and the best water carafes I’ve seen in a long time.
Along with our delicious fried pickles we tried the pickled egg, octopus, some bread and pulled pork and of course the complimentary shelled peanuts they provide you with while you’re deciding what to order. The only thing we felt was a bit of a miss was the octopus (which came with chorizo and a peach salad idea).
While I didn’t really get much sense of the Canadian representation about the menu (admittedly I didnt try the poutine), it was great to see that they had Canadian beers imported. Unfortunately quite a few of them were out of stock, which would have gutted me had I been looking for a Keiths.
I walked away wanting to give this place 5 stars but something felt missing. I’ve decided the fact that they didn’t have a butter tart on the dessert menu at the mo was probably reason enough. Perhaps if they bring it back on I will be willing to reconsider. At any rate, I am sure I will be back for those fried pickles, and to try the mac and cheese.

I loved Miss Kitty’s! I loved the theming, the music, the atmosphere, it was a great night out!
The staff are all so friendly and very helpful. We were asked if it was our first time, and as it was the waitress took the time to explain the menu and portion sizes, then left and gave us some time to peruse. Upon her return, we placed our order and she went through it with us, gave us some suggestions and made sure we didn’t go crazy with the amount of food we ordered (I actually wanted to order everything!).
We ended up order the poutine (with foie gras, because why not?), chicken wing pancakes, the fish (main), ribs, and pulled pork nuggets. Everything was amazing, but the standout for me was the pork nuggets followed closely by the ribs. The nuggets came with deep fried apple pieces that were crunchy and delicious, and an amazing sauce. The ribs had a fantastic yoghurt sauce that off-​set the barbecue flavour perfectly.
I think it was a bit pricey, as you can get carried away with ordering so many little dishes that it stacks up quite quickly, but the food and the atmosphere definitely make it worth it! I love how different and unique all the dishes and flavours are — I will definitely be back!

Knowing a thing or two about honky tonks, this is a great spot, and near my house to boot!
Had brunch this morning and it hits the spot! The chicken & waffles are solid, as are the fried pickles, and their oysters, chicken wings, and pâté are spot on!
They also have a great bar and beer selection, and the décor is solid and comfortable.
I see this being my new go-​to spot. They’re also doing cheap dogs & beers on Tuesdays — highly recommended!

Came here after a few Unilocalers talked about it and mentioned the poutine with foie gras. Yes, you read right. We came for the poutine. Ridiculously decadent and tasty. Let it be a lesson in not being precious about ingredients.
The menu is American inspired with a hint of fusion in some dishes. The food here is to share. The Charcoal Tamarind Pork Ribs were meaty. The charred steak was marinated and cooked perfectly, medium rare. While tucking into the dishes, we noticed a wood fired oven in the open kitchen.
It was a relief to find out that the dishes although inspired from the USA, it did not mean that everything had been deep fried or covered in grease. I could find items on the menu to eat. I did have a few nibbles of the poutine just to try without upsetting the digestive system.
There’s two desserts, banoffee in a glass with 100s and 1000s and a pecan butter pie with maple syrup and ice cream. The pecan butter pie was incredibly rich and sweet that the ice cream provided relief.
The music playing was straight out of the 50s and 60s and the staff were on the ball with service even though it was a busy Friday night.
If you’re sitting outside in the winter months, there is heating and they also provide blankets.

I have been saying for a long time a restaurant needs to open up in Perth selling comfort food and now it finally has — yay!
The owners have gone to a lot of trouble to turn this modern building on Beaufort Street in Inglewood into an old swinging southern saloon.
The bowl of peanuts to crack open and eat while you’re pondering the menu is a great touch. The broccoli empanadas and ribs were my two favourite dishes — and ribs don’t usually get me too excited normally. One request can we get some mac and cheese up in the mix pleeeeeease?
A nice little cocktail list, very pleasing to see the Paloma make an appearance. Their signature cocktail is also unbelievably good.
Though the staff were super lovely, there were a few mistakes with our order, but hopefully it’s just teething problems.
Can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu — yeeha!

Miss Kitty’s takes inspiration from the Southern US, dishing up fancy versions of American comfort food in a country western style tavern. Setting the scene are– plywood booths, low-​lights, free-​flowing unshelled peanuts, Old-​school American soundtrack, and a series of ramshackle objects that provide entertaining bar gazing opportunity. Miss Kitty’s is themed from head-​to-​toe but it’s pulled off in novel, non-​gimmicky technique.
The food is inventive, fresh and made for sharing. Ever tried chilli con carne on a corn waffle? Or chicken wings on a pancake, in Perth? If you’ve ever ventured to the U-​S of A, you’ll know these kind of fearless, sweet and fatty food pairings are commonplace in the Deep South. Miss K reinvents the expat favorites with poise and sophistication. ‘Creative comfort food’ you could call it.
My first visit left a 4 star impression, and on my second time around, the customer service knocked it up to 5-​er. This customer service came in the form of: a free taste of the sparkling wine I was pondering, another free half a glass of bubbles because it was the bottom of the bottle, one honest food recommendation, and two free jars of Gummi Bears and Coke bottles (which are now providing me with review writing sustenance) upon leaving. Plied with booze and free candy, we left smiling and satisfied.
Miss Kitty’s is an awesome new addition to this end of Beaufort. St. Inventive tasty food, merry ambience, novelties, and the customer service is ace. Go with a group of friends or plan a fun date, both are completely feasible here. The doo-​rag and gingham wearing staff make you feel welcome and won’t rush you to eat and dash. Linger over house cocktails, some curious bar snacks, and make a night of it, y’all.
5-​star review aside, what person isn’t intrigued by a restaurant that serves ribs for breakfast?

Who’s a naughty little Kitty?
This hip new restaurant on the corner of Beaufort Street and 9^th Avenue only just opened last Wednesday night. We managed to sneak in here before closing. (They close earlier on Sundays at around 3pm)
The restaurant owner and his partner (a chef in the kitchen) were on site and they were very friendly and accommodating as were all the waiters/​waitresses and bar staff. Water and glasses came straight out and our drinks not long afterwards.
The owner himself came over and offered us a bowl of freshly sliced orange to go with our water while we were deciding on what to order food wise. My gf’s eye was caught by the trendy «Peanut Dispenser» machine behind where we were seated with bowls at the ready. The manager saw her struggle to get to the FREE peanuts and came over and explained how to work the contraption.
We opted for a glass of Riesling and a «Paloma» Cocktail which is basically a mix of grapefruit, lime and tequila with salt around the rim of the glass. These came out pretty quickly and reflected pretty good value at $ 9 and $ 14 respectively.
Next up we chose the Charcoal Tamarind Pork Ribs with corn, chilli and yogurt ($ 14.50) and Foie Gras Parfait with toast ($ 14.80). These were both quite impressive and came out together also. This mix (we obviously shared and went back and forth with food) was quite good and I recommend it.
The boss, his partner in the kitchen and all the other staff seem a very friendly and lively bunch. Very cluey also as was made obvious when we went to settle the bill. He was more than happy to have a conversation with us but only after offering us a free wholemeal doughnut fresh from the kitchen.
He let slip that he had just sold his previous business the Kitsch Bar in Leederville and was pretty keen on giving this new venture a good shot. Also another interesting point was admitting a lot of new places on the scene have something of an attitude problem sometimes and stated quite rightly that it is much better to be humble.
As we settled the bill ($ 52.30) representing pretty decent value in Perth, we were given another freebie, a jar of coke bottle lollies which go for $ 3 a pop at the bar. Little things maybe but things people remember.
A very cool interior. Awesome service, food and drinks. Hey I think I just found my new go to place.
