Pretty mixed feelings here. The pizza is usually really top notch but the service is terrible. The staff are either rushed off their feet they can’t afford two minutes to serve you, or they just don’t care. First time I dined in and the food took a long time, the pizza was great but the famous fried mac and cheese was very bland. Second time I got take away and my order was wrong(the menu apparently was changed and they were supposed to tell customers but didn’t so I had different ingredients), it was charred black in multiple spots from being far too overcooked but the basil was also off the pizza and jammed into the box’s corner(???) and then my box was literally thrown on to the couch with the guy screaming my name before he ran off without a glance. When I came back to question the wrong ingredients he was polite but I didn’t bother waiting for another. A pity as I couldn’t at that point see my charcoal pizza in the dark venue!

We had an impromptu dinner here and were impressed! I had a lovely cocktail that contained Aperol, marmalade and soda — delicious! Food-wise we had the lamb shoulder, green leaves, fried chicken and fried potatoes. This is good, hearty soul-food and we enjoyed every bite. Both of us were very full afterwards which I attribute to the amazing potatoes! Ace Pizza also do pizza(funnily enough!) and they looked delicious, although we did not indulge on this visit. I also saw some interesting deep fried mac and cheese bites go past that will be on my list for next time.

Tucked into the lower end of the Highgate/Mount Lawley Beaufort Street strip, ACE Pizza has cemented itself as one of my favourite places in Perth. It’s been around for a couple of years, but they’ve never let me down, and somehow it just gets better and better. There’s something about ACE. It’s dark and it always feels welcoming. It becomes what you want it to be; whether that’s a restaurant for a 15 deep family dinner or for sitting at the bar alone, eating and drinking the day away. I’m often torn between getting take out or grabbing a booth there and settling in for the evening. They’ve created a venue that feels both like a restaurant and bar and a home at the same time. When I think about eating pizza, which I do a lot, I need a couple of boxes ticked. In reality, I like my pizza simple; none of this fancy pineapple stuff, thank you. I want a thick and thin base, quality mozzarella, outstanding tomato sauce, herbs and good meat. And ACE nails that. But it’s what comes with the pizza that makes it into something more. It’s about an experience. Beautiful wines, well-crafted cocktails, purposefully chosen beers combined with the rest of the menu. Did you know you can deep fry macaroni cheese? And it’ll be good? And you can eat it with pizza? And meatballs? And have nice wine while feasting on all of that? Enter ACE Pizza, everyone. Don’t worry, they do more than pizza and deep fried pasta. The menu is well rounded and caters for everyone I’ve ever dined with. Fresh vegetables are a must for me, and they’ve got the seasonal produce thing down pat. Four salads at a pizza restaurant? Well done, my son. Well played. ACE is one of those rare joints that does everything they’ve set out to do well, and they’ve created the perfect neighbourhood restaurant in the process.

This place well and truly lived up to its reputation on my visit. I walked in expecting pizza and ended up being even more impressed by our shared starters. The lamb and fried mac and cheese balls were out of this world, closely followed by the prosciutto pizza. Food was super fast and wait staff were attentive… An awesome neighborhood gem that is great for dates or large group!

We ended up here by chance on Saturday for a friend’s birthday. Normally booking is a must however we timed it just right and managed to grab a booth. It’s dark and loud, great atmosphere and the staff are fantastic. We opted for the 4 course special for $ 40. Antipasto following by deep fried mac and cheese(yep and it was amazing!), three huge stone baked wood fired pizzas with two different salads and then a final course of donuts and ice cream. Not for the faint hearted or diet conscious that’s for sure. Definitely you worth a visit if you’re in the neighbourhood and fancy something a bit more casual and interesting. Would suggest booking on a weekend or for groups to not be disappointed!

Fried mac n cheese was so on point, I think it has ruined mac n cheese for me for life. We really came in there just for dessert, and that was amazing too. My friend and I shared the booze hound sundae which was, as our fabulous waiter said, a mix of all of the smaller desserts on the menu, plus bourbon. We found there was a tad too much bourbon in there to finish it off, so just ate the bourbon free parts of the sundae with oodles of ice magic. As we walked up Beaufort street we could smell the pizza being cooked, and the really cool hipster vibe really sealed the deal for us. Its definitely a place I’ll go to again.

Was surprised with a cheeky pizza dinner and found myself here at Ace. It’s a nice diner, but dimly lit and the music is loud. To make up for it the food is really good. We ate the fried macaroni cheese, a prosciutto pizza and topped it all off with an apple fritter doughnut. Delicious. The pizza crust is great, although a bit of a sloppy affair under the toppings part of it.

Had the most amazing meal here the other night! Squid, mac n cheese and meat balls to start! Waitress had a great knowledge on the red wines on the menu. The pizza we had was to die for, nice blend of ricotta cheese, meat and sauce. Top it off, shared a soft serve ice cream with honeycomb and salted caramel and chocolate sauce. Service was fantastic, very rare in Perth restaurants now days, can’t wait to come back!

Totally disappointed with my experience at Ace Pizza(again!). Service people were nice, but slow and completely messed up our order(again). I think sometimes there are just places that no matter how many times you go expecting a different experience you just don’t get it. I’d love to be able to review the food, but our order was totally mixed up and we didn’t end up eating. we only ordered ONE pizza and while we watched people around who arrived after us, receive their food… ours never came… we asked our waitress and she never returned. We asked another passing waiter and he never return and eventually we asked a third… only to have the first waitress finally return(after she’d served and taken orders from other guests) that there had been a mess up and our pizza was finally in being prepared now.(45 mins later). Sorry but HELLNO. I’m HANGRY. So HANGRY that I’d rather leave and go home and eat leftovers, which is exactly what we did. Potato bake here I come(and you were delicious) and you only took 2 mins to heat up. NEVER. GOING. BACK. Ps your orange mineral water got you one star and it was out of a can.

Ace pizza is the bomb diggity! A wicked space, utilizing the entire venue to make for an awesome dining experience. The staff were beyond friendly and made me even more excited to try the food! They have an amazing wine selection and the knowledge to boot which surprised me as it is a very casual vibe pizzeria, a surprise I looved! The meatballs were delish, the fried Mac n cheese was delightful and the pizza prosciutto, tomato and cheese amazing! They use legit tomato sauce as you can see it’s transparency on the wicked soft yet crispy base. I thoroughly recommend this joint and cannot wait to I back!

As always, excellent. The staff worked hard to fit our walk-in group in and the food was next level. Anything with Ricotta is highly recommended.

This is an ideal place for catch up with friends. It’s a diner style set up, so the seats are quite close together, which could be a little awkward if you’re on a first date ;) and it can get quite loud in there. I love the food here, I am never disappointed. Top dishes include cauliflower, quinoa and goats cheese salad; you cannot go there without trying the deep fried mac and cheese, superb; and the pinnacle is the soft serve icecream that comes with squeezy bottles of caramel and chocolate sauce, yep it’s the bomb! If I had to give it one criticism it would be that the meals take a little while. but if you aren’t starving and not in a hurry then it doesn’t matter!

Located along Beaufort Street, Highgate is Ace Pizza. One step inside and you are transported to a pizza parlour in New York with its great fitout, dim lighting and green neon flashes. It was funky and urban — a perfect place to catch up with my friends over dinner. We had the Fried Mac n Cheese($ 7) to start off with. I thought that the Mac n Cheese was really delicious. As it was deep fried to perfection, there was a crunch with every bite with the soft and cheesy textures of Mac n Cheese on the inside. Ahh heavenly. We also had the Fungo Magico($ 21), Mr Federico($ 20) and P.R.E.A.M($ 25) pizzas and I thought that they were tasty and delicious. The best part about Ace Pizza is that it is not only a restaurant dedicated to Pizza. If you don’t feel like pizza(I have never heard and it is very rare that people don’t feel like having pizza) there are also other food on their menu which I think it is worth trying. For me, I think I will be back to find out more on what Ace Pizza can offer.

Was looking forward to this place for a while and even though the urbanspoon reviews were mixed, I decided to try it out anyways. I should have listened to the reviews as I was really disappointed. The pizzas were very sloppy and the toppings didn’t excite me. I did expect a lot more for $ 25. The only cider they offered was pear and a bottle was $ 10. As we were there for a birthday dinner, we took along some cupcakes. We were bought the cupcakes but weren’t allowed to eat them in the restaurant. We could sing happy birthday but not eat the cupcakes… Very strange and annoying. All in all I wouldn’t go back there again. Definitely better pizzas along Beaufort St.

We arrived at about 6 without a reservation and had the option of sitting inside but clearing out quick smart for some bookings, sitting at the bar or being sat outside — we chose outside and were pretty much on our own out there for a while. We felt a bit left out as it’s buzzing inside, but then again, one of us would probably have said it was too loud, why is everyone shouting, get off my lawn. We had our drink orders taken within about 5 minutes of being sat down, and our food orders were quick to be sorted as well. We got the Baby Blue Eyes pizza(house made sausage, kale, mozzarella, san marzarno tomatoes and garlic oil, $ 22), pork ribs with slaw($ 18), and flat iron quail with potato cake($ 17). Our drinks arrived and very shortly and our pizza surprisingly swift as well — one thing you can say about Ace, the service and food delivery does not leave you waiting around! The pizza was nice, however we both agreed we’ve made better at home. It was pretty scant with the sausage, and the base was floppy, but we really enjoyed the flavour of the tomato sauce on the base. It was heavy on the kale, which was nice if you like kale — but in big chunks, so that paired with the floppy base meant this was a knife n fork job, unless you want to be taking one bite and bringing all the toppings with you, leaving a sad, naked floppy base. The flavour was fine, but it wasn’t mind blowing. I think the hero of most pizzas is the base, it makes or breaks it. This one wasn’t up to scratch. Next came out the smoky ribs and slaw. I picked one up with my fingers and the bone fell out. AWWWYEAH! These ribs had been cooked since the cows came home. The cows didn’t know about the chop chop beef on the menu I’m guessing. The ribs were the best thing we had — smoky, spicy without melting your face, and tender! Lots of gristle, but ribs are a cheap cut — you expect it(though didn’t expect quite as much as we got). Meat falling off the bone, you hardly have to chew. Deelish! The slaw on the other hand didn’t get as much love. The dressing tasted to me like it was failed mayo, HEAVY with olive oil, it was overpowering. Paired with the celery leaves which were overly peppery and a bit bitter, the slaw was just too many strong flavours that battled each other and left you feeling greased up and pulling a face. Anyway the highlight of the quail was the potato cake — a pressed wedge of wafer thin potatoes roasted/fried to crispy goodness made me happy. Considering the quail was pretty meh, it needed a strong contender like fried potato to back it up. The dressing to me tasted weird. That’s not really an advanced culinary term but I didn’t like it, so I didn’t eat it, which meant I couldn’t dissect it’s bits. The majority of it was left untouched. The grilled orange segment was a nice touch, however that scent holds bad memories of a party I had at my parents place when I was 15 and they were outta town. I grew up in the country, we had to make our own fun. That sometimes involved BBQs, oranges and first aid. We figured upon finishing our meal and being mainly disappointed that the best way to fix that was through ice cream. They have a soft serve which is $ 7 and comes with 2 bottles of sauce(salted caramel and ice magic), a cup of caramel popcorn and a cup of oat crunch. For the love of all thats heart healthy share the ice cream. How one person could polish that off and not wake up with diabetus I don’t know. The salted caramel sauce was good, almost burnt so the sweet edge wasn’t quite so cloying, mixed with the creamy soft serve and snap of the chocolate ice magic, kids will go nuts for this shit. It’s not rocket science, but it’s soft serve ice cream with various textural elements to make it a bit more grown up and DIY. I liked it, but could never eat a whole one. To sum up, the whole place left me not that keen to come back. The hype surrounding this joint, in my opinion was not justified. Would I go back? Maybe, but it wouldn’t be my choice. If friends were having dinner there, I’d go no worries. Would I suggest it? No. Considering the quality of what the rest of the Beaufort St strip offers, I wouldn’t want to waste my precious kilojoule intake on sub par pizza and bad salads. The beer list wasn’t great either.

Cool restaurant in a good spot in mount Lawley. I went here for a group dinner and we had a good time, the atmosphere was cool and reminded me of a few places I ate in LA. The Mac and cheese balls and the cold meat platter were really good but wasn’t entirely impressed with the pizzas. I got one with kale, and although I like kale it had SO much on it that it was over powering everything else on the plate which put me off it a bit. Most of the other people I went with enjoyed their pizzas but I know of a few other pizza places that are better!

Good ambience, good service and as far as pizza goes, pretty decent. But if I’m being honest, Ace is just okay. 1.) Don’t skimp on toppings guys. Not cool. 2.) Absolutely no alterations on any of the pizzas? Seriously? It’s a pizza. It isn’t rocket science to switch it up. Maybe I want to add a little something something to my pizza! Don’t take away my dining freedom! I’ve got rights. And just quietly, quit the monopoly on the strip. You own four restaurants. You’re done.

Making Pizza cool again! Ace Pizza have«aced it» with their offering off Beaufort street in Mt Lawley. Me and Susan dropped in for a last minute dinner the other night and were pleasantly surprised. The décor is very«Mount Lawleyesque», quite cool and chilled. There is plenty of seating inside with booths for groups of friends, smaller tables for dates and catch ups, and then the bar for a quick meal. We managed to get a table with very minimal wait and decided on the Pig’s Head as a shared starter and then shared an Amalfi Pizza. The Pig’s Head was AMAZING! I highly recommend it. The pizza was decent but not mind blowing. There is plenty to sample on the menu so plenty of reasons to come back including plenty of dessert options for those of us with a sweet tooth. I just wonder do they make better side dishes here than actual pizza?

By sights and sounds, you could compare Ace Pizza to a hip late-night pizza joint somewhere in NY. ‘PIZZACLUB’ in green neon lights casts a rascal Goosebumps glow and sets you in the mood for fun and revelry. Or gorging and boozing, whichever way you wanna put it. The kitchen serves wood-fired rustic goodness of the Italian persuasion, plus some cheeky things like; Fried Mac n’ Cheese bites and Tiramisu Donut Balls. Blistered thin crust pizzas, with clever toppings; are pretty fine. Not as chewy or melt-away good as my favourite ones at Dough, but they still hit the spot. Ace calls out for drinking almost as much as it does eating. The dark decoration, super friendly staff and Americano-Italaliano cocktails with canny names, make you wanna stay awhile. And this place has that potential to become a late night eating and drinking institution, if only it wasn’t for the 2-hour seating limit. I felt slightly rushed on my night at Ace and it sort of burst my fun bubble. Also– that seating design. Tables of two are very small(not conducive to sharing plates), and sort of cut off from the rest of the restaurant, so you loose some of the atmosphere sitting here. Gripes aside, I’m totally wrapped Ace Pizza has opened. I hope their existence will wake up this section of no-mans-land on Beaufort St. Loving that they’re open until Midnight 7 days a week. Sophisticated late night boozing and eating that doesn’t involve a greasy kebab/burrito/burger is totally what Perth is(read: I am) gagging for.(Good example of this practice in action: La Cholita). Give me more of the European lifestyle of late night eats and drinks! Yeah I’ll be back. Next time with a bigger group, an emptier stomach and I’ll check out those Tiramisu Donuts.

Brought to you by the masterminds behind Cantina and El Publico, these guys are fast dominating the Beaufort Street strip! Opening just last week, we checked it out for dinner on Friday for a Libby E’s birthday. The interior is similar to El Publico, a mural on each wall, and a mix of both booths, bar and table and chair seating. The restaurant is quite dark, with a green neon pizza sign glowing on one side of the space. They’ve kept the beautiful arches from Barolo — which I’ve always loved. The place was packed throughout our whole meal — no surprises there. Now down to most important thing — the food! The pizzas were great. 11 to choose from. We tried: Farmboy: Potato, guanciale, rosemary and garlic — lovely Baby Blue Eyes: Tomato, mozzarella, house-made sausage and kale — popular on our table. The Amalfi: Seafood — my least favourite Godfather: A classic margherita with super super soft prosciutto — yum. Ms Loren: Gorgeous smokey, spicy sausage with ricotta and lemon — the winner! We also ate a tonne of other things, highlights were: The pork belly meatballs — oh yeah. Pig’s head — yes really. I really excited about the fried mac and cheese, but it wasn’t as wonderful as I had hoped. They also have 4 pastas to choose from. On to the sweets! After seeing the tiramisu donut on the dessert menu, I did what I rarely do, and that’s hold back during the main event and save some stomach space. The tiramisu donut is just like a jam donut, but it’s filled with tiramisu coffee cream instead of jam. It wasn’t as incredible as I had hoped. The nemisis choc cake was unbelievably decadent, and definitely one to try. A thin crumbly brownie like crust that changed to sponge then to a deep dark slice of gooey chocolateness — I haven’t met a cake I couldn’t finish, but this one got me with its richness! The Ace vanilla soft-serve is served with gorgeous caramel and chocolate sauces. There were a few of us at the table, just eating spoons of the caramel sauce it was that good! There’s a cute list of cocktails, including ‘The Hyde Park Hit’(espresso, vodka, grappa and sugar) and they have Americanos(campari, rosso, vermouth & soda) on tap. Highly recommend checking Ace out, I’ll probably see you there! Note: The entry is on the right of the building now, not at the front like Barolo used to be.
