I love it! Guildford is an old town with a large used bookstore you can get lost in for hours. There’s an excellent selection of books to buy. It’s always a treat to come here.

The word that comes to mind whenever I visit the Guildford Book Exchange is ambitious. Some of the records they sell in there are going for $ 10 where you can actually buy them in other stores for around $ 3.00. The actual venue is fabulous and you can spend a bunch of time just rummaging through the books and records. I have only bought the occasional book here as I have found that many of the titles I am interested in are quite expensive. You wont get that«hey hey» moment when you come across your favourite author for $ 1.50. You will find that brilliant book you have been looking for though. I really enjoy coming here even if I do find it overpriced. I bring my step father here and he just loves it, he buys a wheel barrow load of books, and then talks about it for weeks, ahh its a lovely way to bond.

I love it! It’s very Harry Potter, spells, magicians and old worldy. If there’s one thing movies have taught me, it’s if you come in to a place like this you’re likely to stumble upon an old spell book. You’ll realise it’s an old spell book as you blow the dust from the heavy leather bound cover. The grandiose book may even be hidden behind a trap door. Of course, this string of exciting events is much more likely to occur if you’re a cute kid. And I feel indwelling a snow covered country also increases the chances. Maybe that’s where I’m going wrong. Guildford in the height of summer doesn’t really scream mystical magic, no mater how inviting and mystical Guildford Book Exchange looks. It does scream trashy romance novels though. That’s almost as good. They have a massive selection here and for a mere few bucks you should pick one up, even it it’s just to laugh at the ludicrous(but good) lines. There’s also an impressive collection of vinyl records, magazines and books from a variety of genres here. And you can bring the books back once you’ve finished with them and receive a store credit. Sounds great but I won’t be satisfied until I find my magic book. Maybe I need to make snow fall in the area before it will materialise.

I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into Guildford Book Exchange and found a nice selection of vinyl record. Some were a little expensive, but some they were selling for only $ 1. I found a classic two-record blue apple Beatles album for $ 50. Overpriced? Maybe. But I felt like I had just found a hidden gem. In additional to vinyl, they obviously have books. But they also have old magazines, an assortment of used comic books and probably the largest selection of second hand romantic novels I have ever seen in a used bookstore. The staff was nice and very helpful in helping me find a book on the shelves.

I love old books — proper old books, books that you can tell used to belong to someone else and perhaps still have their scribbles in the margins. So many secondhand bookshops seem to sell books that look a little too new for my liking. Guildford Book Exchange, on the other hand, is full of properly pre-loved books with yellowing pages, curling corners and well-thumbed covers. It has an admirable selection of titles across a variety of genres, with an especially good plays and poetry section, and an awe-inspiringly huge collection of trashy romance novels and chick-lit. It also has a surprisingly good vinyl collection. Prices are really reasonable, and if you bring books back in good condition you can get store credit back — likewise if you bring in your own old books. Great bookshop!

Guildford Book Exchange is, quite simply, the greatest bookstore in the world. Seriously. Incredible range of old and new titles, every single genre you can imagine and then some, warm and welcoming atmosphere, and, unlike every other book exchange I’ve visited in recent times — very decent prices. On top of all that, if you have any books you’d like to bring in you can get a store credit and will more than likely leave the shop with an armful of new titles(well, new for you, anyway) practically for free. It’s my absolute favourite bookstore, and if you think I’m being biased — I suggest you go there for yourself to see what all the fuss is about.
