Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable bar staff; enquired about craft beer as couldn’t see any and was took to the other end of the bar where it all lived and personal recommendations were given based on styles, and new stuff flaunted. Barman came over later to check I was happy with the beer and talked about others.

Nice casual environment. Good pub food at a decent price. Some nice wines and a good variety of beer and cider. Staff friendly and chatty! Overall good place for the casual catch up and meal

Aptly named Sunset Bar has a chilled beach vibe set amongst the hubbub of Holdfast Shores. With big cocktails, craft beers and ciders(by bottle at around $ 9-$ 12) and your usual characters behind the bar it is a good place for a few drinks with friends to start the night or chill out during a Sunday session in Glenelg. Live music adds an awesome atmosphere and they get in some pretty talented solo, duo or bands in most nights too. I will show my age here though and say that unless you’re at the back of the venue it can be a little loud. If you have a large group of people the bar will happily close the end of the bar(facing the sea) off for you and that adds a nice intimacy to the space. Seats and setting is all a little dated and worn but it beats one of the rough and readies on Jetty Rd. Within our group we had the antipasto share plate, nachos and wedges. All pretty stock standard pub food. The antipasto platter was a little disappointing with the chorizo being a bit burnt, and pretty flavourless olives and salami. In saying that though it would have fed 4 people easily and the other elements like hommous and fetta was good. The nachos and wedges were awesome and had plenty of toppings which was impressive too. Overall a nice way to chill out in a non-formal bar on a weeknight or weekend before the riff raff arrive and take advantage of the bar specials on a Saturday night.

Really nice place! Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the view as the back half of the bar was roped off for a function. We came here for a couple of drinks and this bar is the perfect place for it. The wine list is nice with a a good amount of options by the glass and a «wine of the month». There’s a good selection of craft beer and cocktails also — I had the snickers one which was amazingly delicious. We also tried some wedges which were perfect and crispy. I found the staff really helpful and friendly(although maybe it was because we were mainly served by a bearded bartender and had an equally bearded friend with us!) and they cleared our empty glasses really quickly which was good as we had limited space on our table. My only complaint was that the live music on the night was way too loud, it was much louder than the normal music playing over the speakers and forced us to yell at eachother to have a conversation. Note: They also accept paywave and credit on bar.

Our mates had their engagement party here and we had a great night. The cocktail food was aplenty and delicious: specifically the tempura prawns and spring rolls were a hit. Our function was in the rear of the bar and while there were a few people coming in as the evening got later, none of them tried to crash our spot and it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. They have an ice machine here that is built up high on the wall and spits ice intermittently into the troughs below. I thought their air conditioner was broken, not realising it was a groovy bar accessory. The service here, though it pains me to say it, was sub par. The staff hung out a lot, talking and arguing and loitering about, while we stood at the bar twiddling our thumbs until they decided they were ready to serve us. Bar staff who fancy themselves a bit too cool are just a downer for everybody, even the drunks like myself.

I’ve been to Sunset Bar a couple of times. The first time was when I was looking for a 21st venue and decided to see what they had to offer. Unfortunately they don’t have a private function room, but they offered the back end of the bar for us, which wasn’t what I was looking for but they were very helpful and accommodating to what I said I liked and wanted etc. The second time I came here was a Sunday night with a few of the girls. We decided to have a couple of quiet drinks and to splurge on a cocktail. I chose the Snickers cocktail which was delish! It cost about $ 16 but it was huge. That night Sunset Bar wasn’t overly busy and there were a few very drunk girls making fools of themselves(but I guess you can get this anywhere), but apart from that the location of Sunset Bar is great, it’s got a large bar and plenty of seating and dance floor space. You can also sit outside on the Marina side or beach side. A perfect summer spot!

This place is a real hot spot of Glenelg in the summer and sunset viewing from here is awesome. There can be a real buzz about the bar, particularly when there’s a band on. And it’s a great place to hang out and sup cocktails on a lazy, late afternoon. Me and my mates like to order a cheese platter with fruit, almonds and crackers and wash it down with a fine wine. WINELIST The wine list is quite good for a bar and there are plenty of options by the glass if you don’t want to share a bottle. And there are quite a few nice local bottles, such as the Chapel Hill Unwooded Chardonnay from McLaren Vale. If you really want to treat yourselves you can buy a rich bottle of the Barossa Valley’s Pepperjack Shiraz.
