This isn’t fine Japanese dining, not quite at the reaches of Shoya and Kenzan, but also far beyond the clutches of Sushi Sushi and Ramen Ya.
Edamame is served out of their pods and sitting in chilled dashi stock and soy sauce marinade — unusual but it works. The genmai sencha tea was delicious and we went through pots of it. Salmon sashimi was melt-​in-​the-​mouth and it drove us to order a second serve. Standout was the deep fried eggplant topped with a fresh sauce of grated radish, mirin and soy sauce.
Service was attentive yet understated and the surrounds were pleasant. Excellent value.
