Westside Findon’s one café is thankfully a good one. Maybe that’s why no one has started up any competition. Café Mounzer deals in simple yet hearty grub at very good prices. You can get yourself a hamburger or steak sandwich for lunch for only $ 5.90(or $ 6.50 if you want flasher toppings). Today I went the ham and cheese croissant and coffee deal for $ 7.90. I’m not sure I’d pay almost $ 5 for the croissant again — I’d probably go a steak sandwich. The croissant was huge, but there was very little cheese, so it was all a little dry. A pity, because it was quite a nice croissant. Just a little more cheese and a few slabs of tomato would have really made it. I have no complaints about the coffee however. It is strong and good, and nicely made, with a pretty leaf on top. I’m impressed by anyone who can do decent coffee art, because I was never able. I especially love the mugs, which are a kind of fishbowl with a glass in the middle, so when you cup it in your hands you don’t feel all the heat from the coffee. One of the highlights of this place is its staff. It’s amazing what a difference great staff make. Service is really prompt, and all the staff are lovely and friendly, happy to talk and will smile whenever they pass you. While I was eating, one of them went to chat with a very elderly man, who was obviously a regular, just to see how he was going and catch up on his day. This makes it a lovely, amicable place to sit and enjoy a coffee.
