Woolshed Pub @ Central Pier Pty Ltd

Came here with friends for a Sunday lunch before hitting Etihad Stadium for an afternoon AFL game.
The restaurant was a little busy, however I think we just beat the rush in lining up to get seated.
Yet another restaurant over the past few weeks which has been really bad with drinks service. I really do not understand how hard it is to pour a damn drink, but has been proven time consuming of late, but to give them credit, at least we did get the drinks unlike other places I have been this week.
The couple that we went with had some steak each. Surprisingly it looked like they were cooked well done. For the average person this is bad, however I love my cow dead so would have been a thumbs up for me.
The wife and I had the brisket which can with wraps & coleslaw that you were to make up. These were awesome! We also had a side of hand cut chips & broccoli which the waitress warned us it was going to be a lot of food. She wasn’t wrong, but also very tasty.
This restaurant also accepts the entertainment card or should I say phone app. They offer 25% off.
For all of us, including quite a few drinks was about $ 160 which is pretty damn good for the amount of food we had. Everyone enjoyed their lunch & would definitely consider a return visit.

The Woolshed Pub opened a couple of years ago in docklands as part of the ongoing renewal of this area. Operator, Atlantic group is known to be great at what they do, sadly the Woolshed doesn’t live up to the group’s standard. To be honest, we really wanted to like this place, it’s handy and the team have always been great at events.
Weirdly for a pub this place has staff with a snooty attitude, this was noticeable on entry. Everybody seemed to think serving customers was beneath them, a case of too many chiefs and not enough Indians sadly.
On arrival we weren’t welcomed, the security guard seemed uninterested and the host was watching the AFL. When we approached we were asked to wait while they checked to see if a table was available, rest assured Melbournians, the restaurant was empty, on a freezing cold night we had absolutely zero interest in sitting outside but, as became the standard for the night we waited.
The venue is a beautiful, modern and well styled restaurant with an open plan kitchen. This is the first time that any of our group have seen an open plan kitchen work against the restaurant as one of the chefs had a temper tantrum.
The entrees came out and were mixed, the Mushroom Croquettes and Pork were delicious. Unfortunately the crispy pork while tasty was most definitely not crispy, the fried chicken ribs were lacklustre at best.
We had great hopes for the mains, the burger was delicious and the veal Parma also very tasty. The Gnocchi was barely cooked, chewy and uneatable. We accepted things sometimes go wrong and just expected the staff to resolve the issue, sadly the attitude of the staff left us underwhelmed at best. Thankfully the waitresses Gnocchi was lovely at lunchtime, we were so pleased to hear that, and even more pleased to be told that the gnocchi was made out of potato, yes earth moving information and in no way explaining why it was chewy. To our surprise we were told it would be taken to the chef to see if he agrees, wonderful, if nothing else he may enjoy our meal. It was easier to move onto dessert than argue these points, sadly we were hoping for a good night and it was starting to turn.
The sticky date pudding was delicious as was the tiramisu, well recommended. Overall we were left under serviced and underwhelmed, for a venue with such potential its let down by poor management within the venue and shows a staffing style more suited to a nightclub than a pub experience.
With so many options in Melbourne we hope this venue lifts its game, the owners deserve the opportunity to make this restaurant the star of docklands, an opportunity it’s missing at present.

Located on the water front in docklands, the large central bar is hard to miss when you walk in. There is a restaurant at one end and an area for a live band at the other.
The exceptionally high ceiling gives the woodshed a very spacious feel. The bar quite a decent spirit collection and a range of beers on tap and in bottle.
There are outdoor areas on two sides, the water side giving nice views of the harbour.
Two large TV’s above the bar were showing the tennis final on Australia Day when I was there and they had a BBQ available for patrons outside and on the harbour side the fireworks were looking fantastic.
Good venue for after works drinks or pre– or post– game drinks if you team is playing.

I agree with the others. Three stars at best. Food was OK (actually decent quantity) but not for those prices. Very slow service.

Oh dear. My friends and I had an absolutely terrible experience here. I couldn’t say a nice thing about it.
The service was the worst I’ve experienced in a long time. They got our order wrong and were extremely unhelpful in fixing it. Eventually, the waitress came over, exasperated and slammed the food down back before running off, deliberately avoiding any eye contact or conversation.
That was just one of the bad experiences with the service, in general it was all terrible. The food was very pricey and tasteless. Two beers cost us more than $ 20 (no, not even pints!).
I’m surprised this is one of the few surviving businesses in the area, must be the waterside location.

Great spot for a drink in the afternoon, and to watch the world wander past, pick the best side though to sit on, as the orientation of the building is East-​West, so one side gets more sun than the other, sadly the North side has the least interesting views. In the height of summer though that wouldn’t be an issue.

I have only attended this venue during private event, so I cannot comment on the everyday Woolshed. As commented below it is a great conversion from dockside warehouse. The service is good and the food provided during events is great.

From functions such as private events, award nights, christmas parties, dinner, lunch and just for a wine or two, I have had the pleasure of experiencing the Woolshed on many different occasions
They have a great atmosphere when they are full and buzzing aside from that it can seem quite lonely on an off day, due its warehouse style interior. The outdoor terrace and patio on both levels are a great entertaining space and can really lift the vibe when full.
Although its doesn’t do the windy docklands many favours aesthetically it really is a versatile space that caters for a variety of events.

You could say that the Woolshed perfectly describes of the whole of the Docklands area in general. This old converted dock building from the late 1800’s certainly looks flash, with its glass walls and polished high beams. It even has a flash bistro menu with oysters, terrine, home made chips and steaks that will set you back $ 39. This place actually has it all at first glance. Outdoor seating, a roomy bar with plenty of tables and a spacious and light dining area. But like Docklands itself it just doesn’t quite deliver in either atmosphere or quality.
The food is good, but can be definitely described as one of those menus that reads far far better than it tastes. It is also therefore expensive for the quality you are actually getting. The drinks are also not cheap. With a list of over 100 wines and almost as many beers you certainly won’t be wanting for anything off either the drinks or food menu. But then again sometimes you just wish a pub could like this could stick to the simple things and do them far better than they are, rather than getting carried away with their beautifully designed interior and thinking they have to try and fancy up the food and drink to a level they just cannot achieve. Take the home made chips, for example. The cost is $ 10 (rather expensive), they look amazing, and taste… well they taste like nothing. And the home made tomato sauce — give me Heinz any day.
Anyway to summarize. The Woolshed Pub is certainly a decent pub to go to and maybe even dine at — just don’t get carried away with their fancy sounding menu and designed interior. It is a good solid pub. But has a long way to go before it can call itself a gastro-​pub.

Ok, it doesn’t sound like the most glamorous joint in town and the idea of drinking in a pub affiliated in any way, shape or form with wool kind of makes me think of bad wool odors, but Woolshed Pub — an erstwhile wool warehouse in Docklands — is a pretty spiffy bar.
An expansive bar in close proximity to Eithad Stadium, Woolshed may charge twelve bucks for a portion of fries and $ 40 for the cheapest bottle of wine but if you’re looking for a classy sports bar with a New Zealand bent you can’t go far wrong with woodshed.
Think high ceilings, think wood veneer walls, think giant plasma screens above the bar and some very professional service. The atmosphere here is more artfully-​rustic-​high-​end-​city bar than pub per se but Woolshed’s relaxed vibe and casual set-​up has all of the hallmarks of a good Aussie pub.
A friend visiting from New Zealand may have quipped that if he was going to stay at Woolshed another moment he would have to remortgage his house but in a way, it’s worth it. For sports bar phobes and fans of relaxed Melbourne bars, the Woolshed is a safe bet.

The Woolshed Pub is a gorgeous redevelopment of an old wool storage facility. Choosing to maintain some of the building’s original features, carefully restored beams and fixtures support the expansive, lofty ceiling covering the shed.
The whole building has a really relaxing and earthy feel, although I have never seen it overly busy this space defiantly has potential. The menu is simple and contemporary with a selection of platters also available. I opted for the seafood tasting plate which included calamari, Moreton bay bugs, mussels, king prawns and fish fillets. Although very fresh and well presented most of the platter was deep-​fried, which perhaps destroyed some of the natural flavours of the seafood. The waitress recommended a bottle of the 2009 Carolina Unwooded Chardonnay and it was heaven! Perfect accompaniment to the seafood the buttery flavours of the chardonnay complimented the natural oils in the fish.
The pub has lots of little areas to explore and a plenty of outdoor patio areas great for a glass of vino on a summer afternoon.
